A feedback view of behavioural distortions from perceived public service gaps at ‘street‐level’ policy implementation: The case of unintended outcome…
2020
This paper discusses the limitations and risks associated with the use of output-oriented measures to assess public school performance. In particular, it questions the capability of the performance measures set by external institutions, with respect to schools, to support sustainable educational outcomes. To this end, the ‘street-level bureaucracy’ theory is used in the paper as a basis to analyse the behavioural distortions generated by perceived public service gaps at school level policy implementation. Such unintended behavioural effects are often a major cause of disappointing outcomes when test-based accountability systems are adopted. In the second part of the paper, an insight model …
Meter for the Quantitative Analysis of Newspaper Sport Material
2016
This article presents a meter for the quantitative analysis of newspaper sport material. The meter makes it possible to measure and classify newspaper sport material in detail. The meter has three levels. The selected level depends on the research purpose and desired measurement accuracy. Measurement can focus on a certain level, or all levels can be used together. Individual variables can also be utilized at a certain level. The three levels with respective level units of observation are: 1) articles, photos, and graphics; 2) sets of articles; and 3) sets of data materials. The use of each level is presented in the article. The article also contains a summary of the newspaper sport materia…
A novel oxovanadate structural type – Synthesis, single crystal structure and magnetic properties of a mixed-valence polyoxovanadate formed by {V17O4…
2007
Abstract A novel polyoxovanadate structural type, with an average nuclearity of V16, formed by a mixture of two different polyoxovananadates: {V15O36(Cl)} and{V17O40(Cl)} has been synthesized and characterized. The title compound, formulated as [Ni(phen)3]2{[V15O36(Cl)]0.5[V17O40(Cl)]0.5} · H2O (1) (phen = 1,10′-phenanthroline), presents two different polyoxovanadate architectures: {V15O36(Cl)} and {V17O40(Cl)}, with the last one representing a new framework type in polyoxovanadate chemistry. Here, we present the synthesis of this novel polyoxovanadate under hydrothermal conditions and its characterization by IR and XPS spectroscopies, elemental and thermogravimetric analysis, redox titrati…
Synthesis and characterization of [Fe(III)(qsal)2][M(III)(pds)2] (M=Cu, Au)
2007
Abstract Salts of the Fe(III) spin crossover cation [FeIII(qsal)2]+ (qsalH = N-(8-quinolyl)salicylaldimine) and monoanions [MIII(pds)2]− (M = Cu, Au; pds = pirazine-2,3-diselenolate) with formula [FeIII(qsal)2][MIII(pds)2] were prepared and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction and magnetic measurements. These two salts present magnetic properties essentially due to the FeIII centres in the high-spin state (S = 5/2), and do not have any spin transition.
3d/4f Sandwich Complex Based on Metallacrowns.
2021
A novel lanthanide double-decker complex with nickel metallacrowns (MCs) as coordinating ligands has been synthesized. In the 3d/4f metallacrown complex TbIII[12-MCNiIIN(shi)-4]2, the central lanthanide ion is sandwiched between two [12-MC-4] units, forming an almost ideal square-antiprismatic coordination sphere. The resulting zenithal angles at the central lanthanide ion are smaller than those for previously reported sandwich compounds. Magnetic measurements reveal an energy barrier of 346 K under zero field and up to 585 K under 3200 Oe, the highest reported for metallacrowns with D4d symmetry.
A Family of Dinuclear Iron(II) SCO Compounds Based on a 1,3,4‐Thiadiazole Bridging Ligand
2015
A new family of dinuclear iron(II) spin-crossover (SCO) compounds with the formula [Fe2(μ-L)2]X4, with three different counteranions [X = BF4– (1), ClO4– (2) and F3CSO3– (3)], was prepared and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility and Mossbauer measurements. These are the first dinuclear iron(II) SCO complexes with a 1,3,4-thiadiazole bridging ligand L {with L = 2,5-bis[(2-pyridylmethyl)amino]methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole}. The magnetic measurements reveal a gradual and incomplete SCO of the three compounds around room temperature, starting from a diamagnetic [LS–LS] state. The diamagnetic ground state is in agreement with the single-crys…
A Novel One-Dimensional Cyano-Bridged Ni3Fe2 Ferromagnet Constructed from Bimetallic Molecular Squares
2003
Reaction of the complex [Ni(rac-CTH)](2+) (rac-CTH = rac-5,7,7,12,14,14-hexamethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane) with [Fe(CN)(6)](3-) leads to a novel cyano-bridged Ni(3)Fe(2) complex, [[Ni(rac-CTH)](3)[Fe(CN)(6)](2)](4). The structure consists of an alternating arrangement of [Fe(CN)(6)Ni(rac-CTH)](2) squares and trans-planar [Ni(rac-CTH)](2+) units bridged by cyanide groups to give a neutral 1D chain running along the a axis. Magnetic measurements reveal the occurrence of ferromagnetic coupling between Fe(III) and Ni(II) ions and 3D magnetic ordering at 3 K due to interchain interactions. Canting of the moments is inferred from the low value of the magnetization of the saturation bel…
Control of Exchange Interactions in Trinuclear Complexes Based on Orthogonal Magnetic Orbitals
2009
The reaction of copper(II) acetate with the tetradentate Schiff base like ligand H4L {(E,E)-[{diethyl 2,2′-[4,5-dihydroxy-1,2-phenylenebis(iminomethylidyne)]bis(3-oxobutanoate)}] leads to the formation of the square planar N2O2 coordinated complex [H2CuL]. Reaction of two equivalents of this complex with copper(II) acetylacetonato or vanadyl(IV) acetylacetonato yields the trinuclear complexes [V(O)Cu2L2][N(nBu)4]2·2MeOH (1) and [Cu3L2][N(nBu)4]2·2DMF (2). Both complexes were characterised by using magnetic measurements and X-ray crystallography. Special attention was given to the spin-exchange coupling through the bridging phenylene ring. The principle of strict orthogonality of the magneti…
Cheap Sensor Made of Multicrystalline Silicon for Insolation and Temperature Measurements
2016
Abstract In the paper some results on measurement of insolation and „real” cell’s temperature carried out with use of standard silicon solar cells are presented. Two identical cells are applied in such a sensor. Short circuit current of one cell is a direct indication of insolation value and open circuit voltage of the other cell is indirect indication of actual sensor’s temperature but in this case more complex formula must be used for temperature calculation.
Setting the Stage: How to Perform Intracoronary Pressure Measurements
2016
FFR has become an established technology, and alternative approaches, like the instantaneous flow reserve (iFR), are currently being validated. FFR and iFR are generally easy to perform and interpret, but, as with all other technologies, oversimplification also carries risks. In the first chapter of this book, we present the basics of FFR measurements, including basic tips and tricks, and a short introduction to the devices available on the market.
