Design and Style of Cultural and Media Studies Textbooks for College Students

This paper uses the conceptual framework of multimodal discourse analysis in order to investigate the dominant styles and designs in selected Cultural and Media Studies (CMS) university textbooks. For many EFL students who major in philology, CMS courses are obligatory and thus constitute a type of content and language integrated learning (CLIL). Do the mobile-rich get richer? Internet use, travelling and social differentiations in Finland

This article investigates the daily travelling practices that are related to mobile-only, fixed-only and combined mobile/fixed use of the Internet, and the social differentiations that are related to these three ways of accessing the Internet. Survey data ( N = 612) collected from Finland in 2011 are analysed. The article shows that mobile-only Internet use is not associated with particularly diverse or frequent daily travelling practices, whereas combined mobile/fixed use is. Mobile-only Internet users are, in fact, in a relatively disadvantaged position – compared with other users, they are more typically unemployed and their household income is lower. Parenting in the digital era: Protective and risk parenting styles for traditional bullying and cyberbullying victimization

Abstract This study analyzes the parenting styles that could act as risk or protective factors for bullying and cyberbullying victimization in Spain, considering the predisposition to aggression of the adolescents. The protective or risk effect of parenting styles for adolescents' related behavior such as antisocial behavior, school adjustment, and self-esteem was also analyzed. Study sample was 1109 adolescents aged between 12 and 17 years (49.96%, females, M = 13.88, SD = 1.38). What a Friend We Have in Facebook : Norwegian Christian Churches’ Use of Social Media

2021

This study examines how Christian churches in Norway use social media. The key finding is that the churches do not take extensive advantage of the opportunities for two-way communication offered by the platforms, but primarily use their social media channels to promote church activities or broadcast content without inviting a dialogue.
