Low-cost metallate salts Na2MO4·2H2O (M = molybdenum, tungsten) react with a tridentate amine bisphenol bis(2-hydroxy-3-tert-butyl-5-methylbenzyl)methylamine (H2ONOtBu) under ambient conditions in acidic methanol solutions. The reactions lead to the formation of isostructural dioxo complexes [MO2(ONOtBu)(MeOH)]·MeOH in convenient yields. Spectral data as well as X-ray analyses reveal these complexes to be isostructural. Both compounds were tested as catalysts for epoxidation of olefins using cis-cyclooctene, cyclohexene, norbornene and styrene as substrates and tert-butyl hydroperoxide and hydrogen peroxide as oxidants. The reactions of heavier group 14 element alkyne analogues (EAriPr4)2 (E = Ge, Sn; AriPr4 = C6H3-2,6-(C6H3-2,6-iPr2)2) with the group 6 transition-metal carbonyls M(CO)6 (M = Cr, Mo, W) under UV irradiation resulted in the cleavage of the E–E triple bond and the formation of the complexes {AriPr4EM(CO)4}2 (1–6), which were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction as well as by IR and multinuclear NMR spectroscopy. Single-crystal X-ray structural analyses of 1–6 showed that the complexes have a nearly planar rhomboid M2E2 core with three-coordinate group 14 atoms. Metaforu lietojums un tulkošana juridiskos tekstos Latvijā pētīta nepietiekami. Latvija ir Eiropas Savienības dalībvalsts, un ar to saistīti arī noteikti pienākumi, kas izriet no Eiropas Savienības normatīvajos aktos noteiktā valodu režīma. Darba mērķis ir noteikt, kāda veida metaforas tiek izmantotas ES juridiskajos tekstos pētīto materiālu ietvaros un analizēt, kādas tulkošanas stratēģijas tiek izmantotas šo metaforu tulkošanā. Maģistra darbā pielietotas šādas zinātniskās metodes: zinātniskās literatūras izpētes metode, kvantitatīvās analīzes metode un kvalitatīvās analīzes metodes metaforu identificēšanai tekstā un metaforas veida noteikšanai. Metaforu tulkošana Eiropas Savienības Parlamenta debatēs

Darbā identificētas metaforas Eiropas Savienības Parlamenta debašu runās ar mērķi analizēt izmantoto metaforu tulkošanas stratēģijas sinhronajā tulkojumā latviešu valodā, ņemot vērā metaforas veidu. Pirmajās divās nodaļās veikta zinātniskās literatūras izpēte saistībā ar tulkošanas un metaforas konceptu, sinhronās tulkošanas aspektiem, apskatīts metaforu iedalījums un tulkošanas stratēģijas. Trešajā nodaļā tiek analizētas parlamenta debatēs izmantotās metaforu tulkošanas stratēģijas. Tiek secināts, ka metaforas rada grūtības tulkiem, pārsvarā tulkotas izmantojot pārfrāzēšanu, nevis ekvivalentu metaforu, visbiežāk izmantotas leksiskas metaforas.

Šajā pētījumā tiek analizēti trīs veidu mākslinieciskie izteiksmes līdzekļi (metaforas, salīdzinājumi un hiperbolas) ar mērķi noskaidrot Patrika Rotfusa populārā darba Vēja vārds nesenajā angļu – latviešu tulkojumā izmantotās metodes un tulkojuma kvalitāti. Pētījumā iekļauts teorijas apskats, kas aptver bieži sastopamas tulkošanas stratēģijas, literārās tulkošanas specifiku un viedokļu apkopojumu par metaforu, salīdzinājumu un hiperbolu raksturu un tulkojamību. A burgeoning body of literature suggests that poor childhood health leads to adverse health outcomes. lower educational attainment and weaker labour market outcomes in adulthood. We focus on an important but under-researched topic, which is the role played by infection-related hospitalization (IRH) in childhood and its links to labour market outcomes later in life. This paper examines the relationship between body composition and earnings in a developing country setting. We use body mass index, waist circumference and hip circumference. Exploiting the panel structure of our longitudinal survey, we find that along with BMI, waist circumference is related to higher earnings in Indonesia. peerReviewed
