Effect of antisite defects on the magnetic properties of ZnFe2 O4
2013
Magnetic zinc ferrite (ZnFe2O4) nanopowders were synthesized using the sol–gel autocombustion method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) measurements demonstrated that thermal decomposition of the 1-mm-thick xerogel layers in air formed monophasic spinel ferrite nanopowders with a particle size less than 30 nm. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) showed that the obtained reaction product contained antisite defects, with zinc ions occurring at the octahedral sites of the spinel structure. The concentration of antisite defects or inversion degree decreased when the relatively low annealing temperature was increased from 150 to 500 °C. Overall, the obtained ZnFe2…
Development of a scanning electron microscopy with polarization analysis system for magnetic imaging with ns time resolution and phase-sensitive dete…
2018
Scanning electron microscopy with polarization analysis is a powerful lab-based magnetic imaging technique offering simultaneous imaging of multiple magnetization components and a very high spatial resolution. However, one drawback of the technique is the long required acquisition time resulting from the low inherent efficiency of spin detection, which has limited the applicability of the technique to certain quasi-static measurement schemes and materials with high magnetic contrast. Here we demonstrate the ability to improve the signal-to-noise ratio for particular classes of measurements involving periodic excitation of the magnetic structure via the implementation of a digital phase-sens…
Local electrochemical impedance spectroscopy study of the influence of ageing in air and laser shock processing on the micro-electrochemical behaviou…
2011
International audience; In the present paper, the micro-electrochemical behaviour of AA2050-T8 in 0.1 M NaCl was first studied after polishing by means of local electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and field-emission scanning electron microscopy/electron dispersive spectroscopy (FE-SEM/EDS). The influence of ageing in air and LSP was then investigated. Ageing in air for three months led to an increase in the charge transfer resistance. This was clearly observed in sites surrounding constituent particles where the charge transfer resistance was in the order of 1 MΩ cm2 (instead of 10-3 MΩ cm2 after polishing). Increased passivity around particles was confirmed from FE-SEM/EDS analysis. On …
TEM studies on La2−2xCa1+2xMn2O7 (x=0.5 and 0.25)
2003
The nominal compositions and structures of the compounds La2-2xCa1+2xMn2O7 (x=0.5 and 0.25) prepared by solid-state reaction have been studied by transmission electron microscopy and high-resolution electron microscopy. Besides the observation of the major phase of a two-layer structure in the nominal composition La1.0Ca2.0Mn2O7, the embedded n = 3, n = 4 Ruddlesden-Popper phases and La rich phase in the two-layer structure were observed as defects. No layered structure was observed in the nominal composition La1.5Ca1.5Mn2O7. Instead, a major phase of orthorhombically distorted perovskite, a minor phase of an ideal cubic perovskite, and a small fraction of calcium-oxide were observed in the…
The Effect of Damage and Geometrical Variability on the Tensile Strength Distribution of Flax Fibers
2010
Natural fibers of plant origin are finding non-traditional applications as reinforcement of composite materials. The mechanical properties of fibers exhibit considerable scatter, being affected by the natural variability in plant as well as the damage accumulated during processing. For bast fibers, the primary damage mode is kink bands – zones of misaligned cellulose microfibrils extending across the fiber and oriented roughly perpendicularly to its axis. Another feature typical for natural fibers and contributing to the scatter of fiber strength is the variability of diameter along a fiber length and among the fibers. An analytical expression for the distribution of the longitudinal tensil…

Preparation of cholesteric particles from cellulose derivatives in a microfluidic setup
2011
A microfluidic setup was used to process lyotropic cholesteric liquid crystalline mixtures of cellulose derivatives into spherical particles in the micrometre scale. By the method of co-flowing injection, monodisperse droplets of the liquid crystal, dispersed in an aqueous carrier fluid, were prepared. Polymerization of the acrylic solvent with UV-light fixed the orientation obtained by the flowing motion. The resulting particles were characterized by polarizing optical microscopy.
FIMic: design for ultimate 3D-integral microscopy of in-vivo biological samples
2018
In this work, Fourier integral microscope (FIMic), an ultimate design of 3D-integral microscopy, is presented. By placing a multiplexing microlens array at the aperture stop of the microscope objective of the host microscope, FIMic shows extended depth of field and enhanced lateral resolution in comparison with regular integral microscopy. As FIMic directly produces a set of orthographic views of the 3D-micrometer-sized sample, it is suitable for real-time imaging. Following regular integral-imaging reconstruction algorithms, a 2.75-fold enhanced depth of field and [Formula: see text]-time better spatial resolution in comparison with conventional integral microscopy is reported. Our claims …
Three-dimensional real-time darkfield imaging through Fourier lightfield microscopy
2020
We report a protocol that takes advantage of the Fourier lightfield microscopy concept for providing 3D darkfield images of volumetric samples in a single-shot. This microscope takes advantage of the Fourier lightfield configuration, in which a lens array is placed at the Fourier plane of the microscope objective, providing a direct multiplexing of the spatio-angular information of the sample. Using the proper illumination beam, the system collects the light scattered by the sample while the background light is blocked out. This produces a set of orthographic perspective images with shifted spatial-frequency components that can be recombined to produce a 3D darkfield image. Applying the ade…
