Programmable Supercontinuum Laser Spectrum Generator Based on a Liquid-Crystal on Silicon Spatial Light Modulator

2021

Supercontinuum (SC) lasers combine a broadband light spectrum with the unique properties of single-mode lasers. In this work we present an optical system to spectrally filter a SC laser source using liquid-crystal on silicon (LCoS) spatial light modulators (SLM). The proposed optical system disperses the input laser and the spectrally separated components are projected onto the LCoS-SLM, where the state of polarization of each wavelength is separately modulated. Finally, recombining the modulated spectral components results in an output laser source where the spectrum can be controlled dynamically from a computer. The system incorporates two branches to independently control the visible (VI…

Imaging of laser-excited tissue autofluorescence bleaching rates.

2009

Experimental methodology for imaging of laser-excited tissue autofluorescence bleaching rates has been developed and clinically tested. The fluorescence images were periodically captured from the same tissue area over a certain time, with subsequent detection of the fluorescence intensity decrease rate at each image pixel and further imaging the planar distribution of those values. Spectral features at each image pixel were analyzed with a hyperspectral imaging camera. Details of the equipment and image processing are described as well as some measurement results that confirm the feasibility of the proposed technology.

Soft X-ray photoelectron microscopy used for the characterization of diamond, a-C and CN , thin films

2002

Abstract This article gives an overview about the application of X-ray photoemission electron microscopy (X-PEEM) used for the analysis of carbon thin films. We present the results of an X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) study of CVD diamond, a-C and CNx films on Si (100) as well as a defect analysis of a hard disc scratch test. The sp2/sp3 ratio of the carbon films was determined and mapped in the electron micrographs, which show localized defects in the surface.

TEM studies on La2−2xCa1+2xMn2O7 (x=0.5 and 0.25)

2003

The nominal compositions and structures of the compounds La2-2xCa1+2xMn2O7 (x=0.5 and 0.25) prepared by solid-state reaction have been studied by transmission electron microscopy and high-resolution electron microscopy. Besides the observation of the major phase of a two-layer structure in the nominal composition La1.0Ca2.0Mn2O7, the embedded n = 3, n = 4 Ruddlesden-Popper phases and La rich phase in the two-layer structure were observed as defects. No layered structure was observed in the nominal composition La1.5Ca1.5Mn2O7. Instead, a major phase of orthorhombically distorted perovskite, a minor phase of an ideal cubic perovskite, and a small fraction of calcium-oxide were observed in the…

Structural and spectral properties of ZnO nanorods by wet chemical method for hybrid solar cells applications

2015

Abstract The synthesis of ZnO nanorods on transparent conducting oxides, Al doped ZnO seed layer on glass substrate (AZO) and indium tin oxide substrate (ITO) by using zinc nitrate hexahydrate (Zn (NO3)2·6H2O) and hexamethylenetetramine (HMT, (CH2)6N4 as raw materials is presented. The ZnO seed layer was fabricated by depositing an Al-doped ZnO thin film on glass substrate by sputtering. The effect of seeding on (AZO) and (ITO) substrate by using the wet chemical route growth of ZnO nanorods was investigated. The synthesized nanostructures of ZnO were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV–vis absorption spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and high-resolution transmission…

Momentum Distribution of Electrons Emitted from Resonantly Excited Individual Gold Nanorods.

2017

Electron emission by femtosecond laser pulses from individual Au nanorods is studied with a time-of-flight momentum resolving photoemission electron microscope (ToF k-PEEM). The Au nanorods adhere to a transparent indium–tin oxide substrate, allowing for illumination from the rear side at normal incidence. Localized plasmon polaritons are resonantly excited at 800 nm with 100 fs long pulses. The momentum distribution of emitted electrons reveals two distinct emission mechanisms: a coherent multiphoton photoemission process from the optically heated electron gas leads to an isotropic emission distribution. In contrast, an additional emission process resulting from the optical field enhanceme…

Effect of microstructure and chemical composition on localized corrosion resistance of a AISI 304L stainless steel after nanopulsed-laser surface mel…

2015

Abstract Changes induced in the surface properties of AISI 304L stainless steel when it is treated with a nanopulsed ytterbium-doped fiber laser were investigated to determine the microscale distribution of its physico-chemical properties. A Gaussian energy distribution was created with a radius of 71 μm (1/e2) at the focal point. Local investigations were carried out using transmission electron microscopy to consider the effect of overlapping individual laser impacts. The results obtained reveal that laser surface melting leads to changes in the crystallographic structure of the steel through the formation of a δ-ferritic phase. It also results in the creation of an oxide layer that increa…

FIMic: design for ultimate 3D-integral microscopy of in-vivo biological samples

2018

In this work, Fourier integral microscope (FIMic), an ultimate design of 3D-integral microscopy, is presented. By placing a multiplexing microlens array at the aperture stop of the microscope objective of the host microscope, FIMic shows extended depth of field and enhanced lateral resolution in comparison with regular integral microscopy. As FIMic directly produces a set of orthographic views of the 3D-micrometer-sized sample, it is suitable for real-time imaging. Following regular integral-imaging reconstruction algorithms, a 2.75-fold enhanced depth of field and [Formula: see text]-time better spatial resolution in comparison with conventional integral microscopy is reported. Our claims …
