Mobilisation of plasmid-mediated blaVEB-1 gene cassette into distinct genomic islands of Proteus mirabilis after ceftazidime exposure

ABSTRACT Objectives We sought to integrate a VEB-1-encoding gene cassette into the integron of the MDR region of genomic islands (GIs) harboured by Proteus mirabilis strains after antibiotic exposure. Methods An IncP1 plasmid from Achromobacter xylosoxidans carrying the cassette array dfrA14–blaVEB-1–aadB was introduced by conjugation into five strains of P. mirabilis: PmBRI, PmABB, PmSCO and Pm2CHAMA harbouring Salmonella GI 1 and PmESC harbouring Proteus GI 1. Circular intermediates of the cassettes were amplified by PCR. blaVEB-harbouring P. mirabilis were exposed to increasing concentrations of ceftazidime each day. A MEMS array-type Mirau interferometer for swept-source OCT imaging with applications in dermatology

In the frame the European project VIAMOS (www.viamos.eu) we developed a microsystem based on Mirau interferometry and applied for optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging of living tissues. The objective is to benefit from advanced MOEMS technologies, enabling a new generation of miniature and low-cost instruments using the concept of the swept-source OCT (SS-OCT) microsystem based on spectrally tuned Mirau interferometry, into which a doublet of microlens matrices (4×4) and a wafer of movable reference mirrors are included, building the active Mirau interferometer.

An updated checklist of chondrichthyans of Calabria (Central Mediterranean, southern Italy), with emphasis on rare species

In this contribution the checklist of chondrichthyans of Calabria (Central Mediterranean, southern Italy) is reported. Data presented is derived from twenty years of opportunistic and active surveys from 2000 to 2020. A total of 55 species of chondrichthyans is present in Calabrian seas: 33 sharks, 20 rays, and 2 chimaeras. These species represent approximately 62% of the total reported for the Mediterranean. Approximately 71% of Calabrian species have been reported in the Tyrrhenian Sea, 49% in the Ionian Sea, and 33% in the Strait of Messina. Kinship and monastic fraternity in the saint Honoratus miracles at the end of the 13th century (Vita sancti Honorati - BHL 3976) - The legendary Life of saint Honoratus, founding abbot of Lerins and archbishop of Arles (BHL 3976), is a long anonymous narrative of the end of the 13th century. The chapters 30-48 gather together 37 posthumous miracles of the saint. These narratives, close to the contemporary exempla, are rich in moral teachings and display the social relationships representations from the monastic fraternity ideal pattern viewpoint. Entre 2002 et 2006, le programme Le Moyen Âge vu d'ailleurs a réuni des médiévistes européens et latino-américains , au cours de quatre rencontres qui se sont déroulées à Auxerre (2002), São Paulo (2003), Madrid (2005) et Buenos Aires (2006) . Dans un contexte de relative méconnaissance en Europe de ce qui se faisait dans la médiévistique latino-américaine, il s'agissait alors de stimuler les échanges entre de jeunes chercheurs et de chercheurs confirmés autour de l'actualité d'une recherche multiple en train de se construire.
