Ferromagnetic coupling and magnetic anisotropy in oxalato-bridged trinuclear chromium(iii)-cobalt(ii) complexes with aromatic diimine ligands

2010

Two novel heterotrinuclear chromium(III)-cobalt(II) complexes of formula {[Cr(III)(bpy)(ox)(2)](2)Co(II)(Me(2)bpy)}.2H(2)O (1) and {[Cr(III)(phen)(ox)(2)](2)Co(II)(Me(2)bpy)}.1.5H(2)O (2) [ox = oxalato, bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine, Me(2)bpy = 6,6'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine, and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline] have been synthesized using the "complex-as-ligand/complex-as-metal" strategy. The X-ray crystal structure of 2 consists of neutral oxalato-bridged Cr(III)(2)Co(II) bent entities formed by the coordination of two anionic [Cr(III)(phen)(ox)(2)](-) complexes through one of their oxalato groups toward a cationic cis-[Co(II)(Me(2)bpy)](2+) complex. The three tris(chelated), six-coordinated metal atom…

Synthesis and Structural Stability of α-Helical Gold(I)-Metallopeptidesy

2020

AbstractThe synthesis of hexa- and dodecapeptides functionalized with two Au(I)–phosphine complexes is reported. The high stability of the Au(I)–phosphine bond allowed orthogonal peptide-protecting-group chemistry, even when using hard Lewis acids like boron tribromide. This enabled the preparation of an Fmoc-protected lysine derivative carrying the Au(I) complex in a side chain, which was used in standard Fmoc-based solid-phase peptide synthesis protocols. Alanine and leucine repeats in the metallododecapeptide formed α-helical secondary structures in 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol–H2O and 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropanol–H2O mixtures with high thermal stability, as shown by temperature-dependent…

Combined spectroscopic and theoretical analysis of the binding of a water-soluble perylene diimide to DNA/RNA polynucleotides and G-quadruplexes.

2021

We present here a combined spectroscopic and theoretical analysis of the binding of N,N’-bis(2-(1-piperazino)ethyl)-3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic acid diimide dichloride (PZPERY) to different biosubstrates. Absorbance titrations and circular dichroism experiments, melting studies and isothermal calorimetry (ITC) titrations reveal a picture where the binding to natural double-stranded DNA is very different from that to double and triple-stranded RNAs (poly(A)∙poly(U) and poly(U)∙poly(A)⁎poly(U)). As confirmed also by the structural and energetic details clarified by density functional theory (DFT) calculations, intercalation occurs for DNA, with a process driven by the combination of aggr…

Cladosporinone, a new viriditoxin derivative from the hypersaline lake derived fungus Cladosporium cladosporioides

2015

A new cytotoxic viriditoxin derivative, cladosporinone (1), along with the known viriditoxin (2) and two viriditoxin derivatives (3 and 4) were obtained from the fungus C ladosporium cladosporioides isolated from the sediment of a hypersaline lake in Egypt. The structure of the new compound (1) was determined by 1D and 2D NMR measurements as well as by high-resolution ESIMS and electronic circular dichroism spectroscopy. All isolated compounds were studied for their cytotoxicity against the murine lymphoma cell line L5187Y and for their antibiotic activity against several pathogenic bacteria. Viriditoxin (2) was the most active compound in both bioassays. Compound 1 also exhibited strong cy…

Chiral spin crossover nanoparticles and gels with switchable circular dichroism

2015

Spin crossover complexes represent spectacular examples of molecular switchable materials. We describe a new approach towards homochiral coordination nanoparticles of [Fe(NH2trz)3](L-CSA)2 (NH2trz = 4-amino-1,2,4-triazole, L-CSA = L-camphorsulfonate) that display an abrupt switch of chiral properties associated with a cooperative spin transition. This is an original method that generates stable and additive-free colloidal solutions of nanoparticles with a spin transition around room temperature. The introduction of a chiral anion to the coordination framework makes these nanoparticles display specific chiro-optical (circular dichroism) properties that are different in high and low spin stat…

Dynamic Light Scattering Investigation of the Kinetics and Fidelity of Supramolecular Copolymerizations in Water

2017

The self-assembly of supramolecular copolymers facilitates the preparation of multifunctional materials, with tunable mechanical, electronic, or bioactive properties. Compared to covalent copolymerization protocols, controlling the molecular weight, stability, and monomer sequence of a multicomponent supramolecular copolymer remains limited. Here, we report a light scattering investigation of the charge-regulated supramolecular copolymerization in neutral buffer of physiological ionic strength, supported with electron microscopy and circular dichroism spectroscopy experiments. Dendritic anionic and cationic peptide comonomers self-assemble into AB-type heterocopolymers with a nanorod-like m…

Influencing the Self‐Sorting Behavior of [2.2]Paracyclophane‐Based Ligands by Introducing Isostructural Binding Motifs

2020

Abstract Two isostructural ligands with either nitrile (Lnit) or isonitrile (Liso) moieties directly connected to a [2.2]paracyclophane backbone with pseudo‐meta substitution pattern have been synthesized. The ligand itself (Lnit) or its precursors (Liso) were resolved by HPLC on a chiral stationary phase and the absolute configuration of the isolated enantiomers was assigned by XRD analysis and/or by comparison of quantum‐chemical simulated and experimental electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra. Surprisingly, the resulting metallosupramolecular aggregates formed in solution upon coordination of [(dppp)Pd(OTf)2] differ in their composition: whereas Lnit forms dinuclear complexes, Liso…

Novel atrazine-binding biomimetics inspired to the D1 protein from the photosystem II of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.

2020

Biomimetic design represents an emerging field for improving knowledge of natural molecules, as well as to project novel artificial tools with specific functions for biosensing. Effective strategies have been exploited to design artificial bioreceptors, taking inspiration from complex supramolecular assemblies. Among them, size-minimization strategy sounds promising to provide bioreceptors with tuned sensitivity, stability, and selectivity, through the ad hoc manipulation of chemical species at the molecular scale. Herein, a novel biomimetic peptide enabling herbicide binding was designed bioinspired to the D1 protein of the Photosystem II of the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. The D1…

Supramolecular Chirogenesis in Bis-Porphyrin: Crystallographic Structure and CD Spectra for a Complex with a Chiral Guanidine Derivative

2021

The complexation of (3aR,7aR)-N-(3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)octahydro-2H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-imine (BTI), as a guest, to ethane-bridged bis(zinc octaethylporphyrin), bis(ZnOEP), as a host, has been studied by means of ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) and circular dichroism (CD) absorption spectroscopies, single crystal X-ray diffraction, and computational simulation. The formation of 1:2 host-guest complex was established by X-ray diffraction and UV-Vis titration studies. Two guest BTI molecules are located at the opposite sides of two porphyrin subunits of bis(ZnOEP) host, which is resting in the anti-conformation. The complexation of BTI molecules proceed via coordination of the imine nitr…
