What drives mass mobilization? A substantial body of theoretical work in diverse fields, including political science, communications, sociology, and economics, is built around the idea that an individual’s willingness to participate in a mobilization is driven by her beliefs about public opinion – that is, about what the majority of the public thinks. Despite the centrality of this idea, rigorous empirical evidence is scarce. We test this idea using original data collected during and after the massive street protests in Israel in the summer of 2011. Comparison of spring characteristics of titanium-molybdenum alloy and stainless steel

Background Titanium-molybdenum alloy (TMA) and stainless steel (SS) wires are commonly used in orthodontics as arch-wires for tooth movement. However, plastic deformation phenomenon in these arch-wires seems to be a major concern among orthodontists. This study aimed to compare the mechanical properties of TMA and SS wires with different dimensions. Material and Methods Seventy-two wire samples (36 TMA and 36 SS) of three different sizes (19×25, 17×25 and 16×22) were analyzed in vitro, with 12 samples in each group. Scaffolds based on hyaluronan crosslinked with a polyaminoacid: Novel candidates for tissue engineering application

New porous scaffolds, with a suitable hydrolytic and enzymatic degradation, useful for tissue engineering applications have been obtained by a carbodiimide mediated reaction between hyaluronan (HA) and a synthetic polymer with a polyaminoacid structure such as α,β-polyaspartylhydrazide (PAHy). Effect of Chitin Whiskers on the Molecular Dynamics of Carrageenan-Based Nanocomposites

[EN] Films of carrageenan (KC) and glycerol (g) with different contents of chitin nanowhiskers (CHW) were prepared by a solution casting process. The molecular dynamics of pure carrageenan (KC), carrageenan/glycerol (KCg) and KCg with different quantities of CHWs as a filler was studied using dielectric relaxation spectroscopy. The analysis of the CHW effect on the molecular mobility at the glass transition, T-g, indicates that non-attractive intermolecular interactions between KCg and CHW occur. Survival and differentiation of embryonic neural explants on different biomaterials

Biomaterials prepared from polyacrylamide, ethyl acrylate (EA), and hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) in various blend ratios, methyl acrylate and chitosan, were tested in vitro as culture substrates and compared for their ability to be colonized by the cells migrating from embryonic brain explants. Neural explants were isolated from proliferative areas of the medial ganglionic eminence and the cortical ventricular zone of embryonic rat brains and cultured in vitro on the different biomaterials. Metal–organic framework (MOF)-driven synthesis is considered as a promising alternative for the development of new catalytic materials with well-designed active sites. This synthetic approach is used here to gradually transform a new bimetallic MOF, with Pd and Fe as the metal components, by the in situ generation of aniline under mild conditions. Two-photon high-speed light-sheet volumetric imaging of brain activity during sleep in zebrafish larvae

Although it is well known that zebrafish display the behavioural signature of sleep, the neuronal correlates of this state are not yet completely understood, due to the complexity of the measurements required. For example, when performed with visible excitation light, functional imaging can disrupt the day/night cycle due to the induced visual stimulation. To address this issue, we developed a custom-made two-photon light-sheet microscope optimized for high-speed volumetric imaging.
