Endothelial Wnt/β-catenin signaling inhibits glioma angiogenesis and normalizes tumor blood vessels by inducing PDGF-B expression
2012
Wnt modulates glioma vascularization by regulating PDGF-B expression.
Congenital Plaque-Type Glomuvenous Malformations Associated with Fetal Pleural Effusion and Ascites
2010
Glomuvenous malformations are hereditary vascular anomalies, usually without extracutaneous involvement. We report two cases of extensive thoracic plaque-type glomuvenous malformation in newborns who had previously been diagnosed in utero with pleural effusion and ascites, suggesting a pathogenic link between the two conditions.
GLANDULAR ODONTOGENIC CYST ASSOCIATED WITH AMELOBLASTOMA: CASE REPORT AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE
2017
Glandular odontogenic cyst (GOC) associated with ameloblastoma is an exceedingly rare histologic presentation with no known clinical significance or treatment applications. Four cases have been reported, three in the mandible and one in the maxilla. The age range is 14-65 and with male predilection. All four presented with swellings and two with pain. We add one more case to the literature of a 58-year old male presenting with an expansile multilocular radiolucency between teeth #19-23. The ameloblastomatous changes in this case are consistent with those of a unicystic ameloblastoma-mural subtype. Although the histologic changes are those of a unicystic ameloblastoma, the clinical and radio…
Murine Microvideo Endoscopy of the Colonic Microcirculation
2007
Natural orifice endoscopy in small animal models has been limited in the past by instrument size and optical performance. In this report, we investigate the feasibility of using a recently developed microvideo endoscopy system to evaluate the colon microcirculation. Using a murine model of acute colitis, microvideo endoscopy was useful in mapping the topography of inflammation as well as identifying relevant structures in the microcirculation. We conclude that natural orifice endoscopy is a useful method for the minimally invasive longitudinal assessment of the colonic mucosal microcirculation.
Measurement of neutrino oscillation by the K2K experiment
2006
We present measurements of nu_mu disappearance in K2K, the KEK to Kamioka long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment. One hundred and twelve beam-originated neutrino events are observed in the fiducial volume of Super-Kamiokande with an expectation of 158.1^{+9.2}_{-8.6} events without oscillation. A distortion of the energy spectrum is also seen in 58 single-ring muon-like events with reconstructed energies. The probability that the observations are explained by the expectation for no neutrino oscillation is 0.0015% (4.3sigma). In a two flavor oscillation scenario, the allowed Delta m^2 region at sin^2(2theta) is between 1.9 and 3.5 x 10^{-3} eV^2 at the 90% C.L. with a best-fit value o…
Morphogenesis and Cardenolide Formation in Digitalis obscura Cultures
1991
Summary Cardenolide formation was investigated in hypocotyl cultures of Digitalis obscura L. established on MS medium with growth regulators selected to promote either callus formation, caulogenesis, embryogenesis or rhizogenesis. Examination of the cardenolide composition of leaves from mature plants was also performed. Several compounds of series A and C were identified by HPLC in in vitro and in vivo grown tissues, no marked differences being found between their cardenolide patterns. RIA determinations showed that shoot- or embryo-forming calli accumulated significantly higher amounts of digoxigenin derivatives than undifferentiated or rhizogenic cultures. In any case, field plants prese…
Identification of the Weevil immune genes and their expression in the bacteriome tissue
2008
Abstract Background Persistent infections with mutualistic intracellular bacteria (endosymbionts) are well represented in insects and are considered to be a driving force in evolution. However, while pathogenic relationships have been well studied over the last decades very little is known about the recognition of the endosymbionts by the host immune system and the mechanism that limits their infection to the bacteria-bearing host tissue (the bacteriome). Results To study bacteriome immune specificity, we first identified immune-relevant genes of the weevil Sitophilus zeamais by using suppressive subtractive hybridization (SSH) and then analyzed their full-length coding sequences obtained b…

Archaeometrical Studies of Classic Mayan Mural Painting at Peten: La Blanca and Chilonche
2014
[EN] La Blanca and Chilonche are two of the many Mayan settlements located on the lower reaches of the Mopan river (Department of Petén, Guatemala). The archaeological work conducted by La Blanca Project (University of Valencia, Spain) over the last ten years has revealed the rich polychrome of the monumental architecture of these sites, where the remains of ancient mural paintings are of the highest quality. In order to ascertain the materials and techniques used by painters at each site throughout the Classic period, our research team has recently conducted an analytical study with a multi-technique approach based on the combination of several non destructive and micro-destructive instrum…
