Visual Contrast Modulates Operant Learning Responses in Larval Zebrafish.

The larval zebrafish is a promising vertebrate model organism to study neural mechanisms underlying learning and memory due to its small brain and rich behavioral repertoire. Here, we report on a high-throughput operant conditioning system for zebrafish larvae, which can simultaneously train 12 fish to associate a visual conditioned pattern with electroshocks. We find that the learning responses can be enhanced by the visual contrast, not the spatial features of the conditioned patterns, highlighted by several behavioral metrics. This study views the motivation of future teachers from quite a novel perspective: in terms of vision or envisioning. The study was carried out with student teachers of English (n=31) enrolled on a MA degree programme at a university in Finland. They were asked to envision an English class of their dreams after graduating as qualified teachers. The students produced a picture and were asked to comment on it briefly and provide some further details concerning the class. Signālu apstrādes metodes

Maģistra darba mērķis ir aplūkot dažādas signālu apstrādes metodes, tās salīdzināt un pielietot praktiskām datu problēmām. Galvenā darba daļa ir veltīta Furjē teorijai un signālu filtrācijas metodēm, kā arī ar signālu apstrādi saistītām problēmām, tādām kā aliasings. Darbā tiek apskatīts filtrācijas metožu pielietojums skaņas signālu apstrādē. Galvenās filtrācijas metodes, kas aplūkotas darbā ir augstās/zemās caurlaides metode, joslas caurlaides metode, kā arī vispārīgā filtra metode un dekonvolūcijas metode. Tāpat darbā tiek aplūkota signālu salīdzināšana ar šķērs-korelācijas metodi un apskatīts šīs metodes praktisks pielietojums.

In the field of Linguistic Landscape research little attention has been paid to the situations where a minoritized group gives the regional majority, such as South-­‐West Slovakia where Hungarians form the majority. A clear majority of public signs, also in the region with a Hungarian majority, are only in Slovak, especially in the ‘official’, public sphere. In rural communities, signs posted by private citizens can be relatively frequent, too. In the truly non-­‐ commercial private sphere, minorities have autonomy in public language choice. Tutkielmassa tarkastelen Visual Thinking Strategies -menetelmän soveltamista maahan muuttaneiden kielenopetukseen. VTS eli keskusteleva kuvan tarkastelu on yksinkertainen, keskusteluun perustuva taiteen tarkastelun menetelmä, jossa edetään osallistujien lähtökohdista, esitetään avoimia kysymyksiä ja sanallistetaan näköhavaintoja. Toisen kielen eli enemmistön äidinkielen oppimista pidetään yhtenä onnistuneen kotoutumisen edellytyksistä.
