Solid state NMR studies of gels derived from low molecular mass gelators

2016

The emergence of NMR crystallography provides a unique opportunity to study solids, gels and xerogels, thereby providing ample information to elucidate molecular packing in the native gel. This review details the importance as well as the application of solid state NMR spectroscopy combined with other analytical tools to study gels derived from low molecular mass organo- and hydrogelators.

Red emitting [Ir(C^N)2(N^N)]+ complexes employing bidentate 2,2':6,2''-terpyridine ligands for light-emitting electrochemical cells

2014

2,2':6',2''-Terpyridine (tpy), 4'-(4-HOC6H4)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine (1), 4'-(4-MeOC6H4)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine (2), 4'-(4-MeSC6H4)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine (3), 4'-(4-H2NC6H4)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine (4) and 4'-(4-pyridyl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine (4) act as N^N chelates in complexes of the type [Ir(C^N)2(N^N)][PF6] in which the cyclometallating ligand, C^N, is derived from 2-phenylpyridine (Hppy) or 3,5-dimethyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazole (Hdmppz). The single crystal structures of eight complexes have been determined, and in each iridium(III) complex cation, the non-coordinated pyridine ring of the tpy unit is involved in a face-to-face π-stacking interaction with the cyclometallated ring of an …

Trimethylplatinum(IV) complexes with ON bidentate ligands

1972

Abstract Complexes of the trimethylplatinum(IV) moiety with bidentate monobasic salicylaldimines C 6 H 5 (OH)CHNR (R = ethyl, propyl, phenyl) have been prepared and characterized by IR, UV and NMR spectra and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The complexes are dimeric with double PtOPt bridges, and the metal appears to be pseudo-octahedrally hexacoordinated.

X-ray diffraction, optical birefringence, and87Rb nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy of the paraelectric and antiferroelectric phases of Rb3DxH1…

2002

The antiferroelectric (AFE) phase transition of Rb3DxH1-x(SO4)2 was studied using x-ray diffraction, optical birefringence, and nuclear magnetic resonance. The orientation dependence of the resonance lines deduced from the quadrupole-perturbed 87Rb nuclear magnetic resonance of Rb3D(SO4)2 single crystals indicates slight deviations from the monoclinic symmetry in the paraelectric and the AFE phases. The dynamical critical exponents as deduced from measurements of the spin-lattice relaxation times depend on the deuteron concentration. Additionally, we have carried out x-ray single-crystal diffraction as well as optical birefringence measurements and find clear evidence for a structural phase…

Combinatorial Identification of Hydrides in a Ligated Ag40 Nanocluster with Noncompact Metal Core

2019

No formation of bulk silver hydride has been reported. Until very recently, only a few silver nanoclusters containing hydrides have been successfully prepared. However, due to the lack of effective techniques and also poor stability of hydride-containing Ag nanoclusters, the identification of hydrides' location within Ag nanoclusters is challenging and not yet achieved, although some successes have been reported on clusters of several Ag atoms. In this work, we report a detailed structural and spectroscopic characterization of the [Ag40(DMBT)24(PPh3)8H12]2+ (Ag40H12) cluster (DMBT = 2,4-dimethylbenzenethiol). The metal framework consists of three concentric shells of Ag8@Ag24@Ag8, which can…

Structural characterization of β-2′-pyridylaminocrotonoyl-2-pyridylamide by ESI-MS, NMR, single crystal X-ray analysis and ab initio methods

2003

Abstract In contradiction with earlier reports 1H, 13C and 15N NMR spectra show that β-2′-pyridylaminocrotonoyl-2-pyridylamide is the only form present in chloroform solution. According to the X-ray data the same tautomer exists also in the crystal state. The studied amide has a dimeric form where the monomer molecules are held together by two intermolecular hydrogen bonds. The NMR spectral data show that there is also an intramolecular hydrogen bond in each monomer subunit. The dilution experiments and variable-temperature 1H NMR runs show that β-2′-pyridylaminocrotonoyl-2-pyridylamide tends to form the dimers also in chloroform solution at higher concentrations. The ESI-TOF MS measurement…

15N NMR: Substituent effect analysis inpara-andmeta-substituted phenylhydrazines

1994

15N NMR spectra of phenylhydrazine and of 14 para- and meta-substituted phenylhydrazines were measured at natural isotope abundance in DMSO-d6 solution. The substituent present exerts a larger influence on the chemical shift of the nitrogen atom directly bound to the aromatic ring (N-1) than on the second one (N-2), which shows an attenuated and inverted trend. The chemical shifts of N-1 and N-2 give a good cross correlation in both series of compounds if p-NO2 and m-F derivatives are excluded from the correlations of para- and meta-substituted phenylhydrazines, respectively. Moreover, N-1 SCS values show good linear correlations with Hammett substituent constants, with SCSs of directly bou…

GIAO/DFT 13C NMR Chemical Shifts of 1,3,4-Thiadiazoles

2007

1 H, 13 C and 15 N NMR spectra of 2-acetylamino-1,3,4-thiadiazole and its 5-substituted derivatives have been measured and assigned based on reference data, as well as homo- and heteronuclear 2 D NMR experiments. In addition, the GIAO/DFT approach at the B3LYP level of theory using the 6-311G basis set was used to calculate the 13 C NMR chemical shifts. Although this method gives reliable results for 2-arylhydrazones of 1,3-diphenylpropanetrione, 2-phenacylpyridines, (Z)-2-(2-hydroxy-2-phenylvinyl)pyridines, 4-fluoroanilines, (1Z,3Z)-1,4-di(pyridin-2-yl)buta-1,3-dienediols and their tautomeric forms, the calculated chemical shifts for the 1,3,4-thiadiazoles studied are less satisfactory. Thiophen—Mangantricarbonyl-Komplexe

1967

Abstract Cationic thiophenemanganese tricabonyl complexes of the formula [C 4 (CH 3 ) x H 4- x S Mn(CO) 3 ] + have been prepared with 2-methyl-, 3-methyl-, 2,5-dimethyl-, 2,3,5-trimethyl-, tetramethylthiophene, and with thiophene by the reaction of Mn(CO) 5 Cl+AlCl 3 or AlBr 3 with the thiophenes in petrol ether, at 100–110°. The complexions give yellow solutions which are fairly stable. Their IR and some NMR spectra are given and discussed.

4-Fluoroanilines: synthesis and decomposition

2001

Abstract Fourteen N- and/or 2-substituted 4-fluoroanilines were prepared (the series includes N–C2-bridged compounds). Some of them were found to be thermally unstable when dissolved in chloroform. Both 19 F NMR spectra and comparison of GIAO-DFT calculated and experimental 13 C chemical shifts were used to suggest decomposition products of 4-fluoroanilines.
