Heterostructured metal oxides-ZnO nanorods films prepared by SPPS route for photodegradation applications
2019
Abstract This work presents the first preparation using the Solution Precursor Plasma Spray process of heterostructured films associating ZnO nanorods (NRs) and various metal oxides (CuO, Fe2O3 and Co3O4) by Solution Precursor Plasma Spray process. These CuO/ZnO, Fe2O3/ZnO and Co3O4/ZnO films exhibit hierarchically chocolate sticks-like, dandelion-like or chrysanthemum-like surface morphologies. These heterostructures were confirmed by SEM, XRD, EDS and Raman analyses. The bandgaps of heterostructured films are narrower than that of pure ZnO. The CuO/ZnO film exhibits the highest photocatalytic activity both under UV and visible light irradiation for the degradation of the Orange II dye due…
Photo-induced electron transfer at nanostructured semiconductor–zinc porphyrin interface
2014
Abstract Electron transfer at metal oxide–organic dye interface on ZnO nanorod (ZnOr) templates was studied by femtosecond absorption spectroscopy method. Further confirmation of the electron transfer was obtained from photoelectrical studies. The fastest electron transfer from zinc porphyrin (ZnP) to semiconductor was observed for ZnOr modified by a 5 nm layer of TiO2 (
Non-radiative recombination centres in catalyst-free ZnO nanorods grown by atmospheric-metal organic chemical vapour deposition
2013
We have investigated the cathodoluminescence (CL) emission and the Raman spectra along individual ZnO nanorods grown by a catalyst-free method. The spatial correlation between the CL emission and the defect related Raman modes permits establishing a correspondence between the non-radiative recombination centres (NRRCs) and the defects responsible for the 275 cm−1 Raman band. According to this relation, the NRRCs in these nanorods are tentatively associated with complexes of zinc interstitials.

Photoelectrochemical removal of chlorfenvinphos by using WO3 nanorods: Influence of annealing temperature and operation pH
2019
[EN] A visible-light driven photoelectrochemical degradation process has been applied to a solution polluted with the organophosphate insecticide chlorfenvinphos. Different WO3 nanosheets/nanorods have been used as photoanodes. These nanostructured electrodes have been fabricated by anodization of tungsten and, subsequently, they have been subjected to a thermal treatment (annealing). The combined influence of annealing temperature (400¿°C and 600¿°C) and operation pH (1 and 3) on the photoelectrocatalytic behavior of these nanorods has been examined through a statistical analysis. Morphological, structural and photoelectrochemical characterizations have also been carried out. The chlorfenv…
Numerical and experimental investigation of short Au nanorods
2014
The plasmonic properties of Au nanorods (NRs) have been investigated theoretically and experimentally, a system that is of high current interest in relation to various nanophotonics applications. The non-aligned NRs arrays were formed by a seed-mediated growth method that relies on the reduction of metal salt by a weak reduction agent in the presence of preformed metallic seed nanoparticles. We applied the finite-element method to calculations of absorption spectra from gold NRs supported in an aqueous solution. Comparison to experimentally measured spectra is found in a good agreement.
Development of photocatalytically active heterostructured MnO/ZnO and CuO/ZnO films via solution precursor plasma spray process
2019
Abstract Heterostructured ZnO photocatalysts for the degradation of organic pollutant are mainly synthesized by conventional chemical methods, suffering from long duration, multi-steps, and post-treatment of the powder-formed catalysts after usage. In this paper, Solution Precursor Plasma Spray (SPPS) process is demonstrated to be a fast and efficient method for the one-step preparation of MnO/ZnO and CuO/ZnO heterostructured films for photocatalytic applications. The ratios between MnO or CuO and ZnO materials in the films were easily adjusted by varying the molar ratio of Mn(OAc)2 or Cu(OAc)2 relative to Zn(OAc)2 during the SPPS synthesis. To optimize the microstructure of selected CuO/Zn…
Nanozymes in Nanofibrous Mats with Haloperoxidase-like Activity To Combat Biofouling.
2018
Electrospun polymer mats are widely used in tissue engineering, wearable electronics, and water purification. However, in many environments, the polymer nanofibers prepared by electrospinning suffer from biofouling during long-term usage, resulting in persistent infections and device damage. Herein, we describe the fabrication of polymer mats with CeO2–x nanorods that can prevent biofouling in an aqueous environment. The embedded CeO2–x nanorods are functional mimics of natural haloperoxidases that catalyze the oxidative bromination of Br– and H2O2 to HOBr. The generated HOBr, a natural signaling molecule, disrupted the bacterial quorum sensing, a critical step in biofilm formation. The pol…
Progress in Violet Light-Emitting Diodes Based on ZnO/GaN Heterojunction
2020
Progress in light-emitting diodes (LEDs) based on ZnO/GaN heterojunctions has run into several obstacles during the last twenty years. While both the energy bandgap and lattice parameter of the two semiconductors are favorable to the development of such devices, other features related to the electrical and structural properties of the GaN layer prevent an efficient radiative recombination. This work illustrates some advances made on ZnO/GaN-based LEDs, by using high-thickness GaN layers for the p-region of the device and an ad hoc device topology. Heterojunction LEDs consist of a quasicoalesced non-intentionally doped ZnO nanorod layer deposited by chemical bath deposition onto a metal&ndash
Inhibition of the detrimental double vortex-kink formation in thick YBa2Cu3O7films with BaZrO3nanorods
2013
We investigated the temperature (T) variation of the normalized magnetization relaxation rate S and of the corresponding normalized vortex-creep activation energy U* = T/S for YBa2Cu3O7 films containing BaZrO3 nanorods, with the external magnetic field H oriented perpendicular to the film surface. It was found that by increasing the film thickness and using nanodot decorated substrates the high-T S(T) maximum appearing at low H is substituted by a minimum in S(T). As revealed by the analysis of the current density dependence of U*, this behaviour is due to the inhibition of vortex excitations involving double vortex-kinks and superkinks formation in the investigated thick films, owing to th…
