A High Sensitive Nested PCR for Toxoplasma gondii Detection in Animal and Food Samples

Toxoplasma gondii is a major food and waterborne transmitted parasite world-wide. The tissues and meat samples of many warm blooded animals can contain tissues cysts from chronic toxoplasmosis. Water and vegetable can be contaminated by the parasitic oocysts shed through the feces of infected cats, representing the definitive host of the parasite. A sensitive PCR for Toxoplasma gondii detection is described. Uptake of Acetylcholine by Bean Hypocotyl Hooks

Summary The uptake of acetylcholine by etiolated hypocotyl hooks of beans ( Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is influenced by light and the pH-value of the incubation medium. Acetylcholine is hydrolysed up to 90 % during the uptake. The hydrolysis is inhibited by pH-value lower than 6.0 and by eserine, an inhibitor of the acetylcholinesterase. The high amount of hydrolysis is a serious problem in experiments involving acetylcholine and necessitates the inclusions of adequate controls without which direct effects of acetylcholine cannot be distinguished from reactions of its metabolic products.

The 6th EDGG Research Expedition took place in summer 2013 in the Kuznetsky Alatau Mountains, part of the Altai-Sayanian mountain region (Republic of Khakassia, Russia). A group of 14 scientists from seven countries studied the variety of steppe vegetation in two regions of the "Khakassky" Reserve – Lake Itkul (Shira region) and Podzaploty (Ordzhenikidzevsky region). Abstract Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography on a thermostatted octadecylsilyl column was used to separate mixtures of labelled polyunsaturated fatty acids (as their methyl esters) formed by successive desaturations and elongations of labelled linoleic (18:2 n - 6) or linolenic (18:3 n -3) acid by rat liver microsomes. Acetonitrile-water mixtures were used for elution of the esters. Unsaturated and saturated esters were detected by their refractive indices.
