Stage 4 s neuroblastoma: features, management and outcome of 268 cases from the Italian Neuroblastoma Registry

Background Infants diagnosed with stage 4 s neuroblastoma commonly experience spontaneous disease regression, with few succumbing without response to therapy. We analyzed a large cohort of such infants enrolled in the Italian Neuroblastoma Registry to detect changes over time in presenting features, treatment and outcome. Case Control Study of Neuroblastoma in West-Germany after the Chernobyl Accident

Background To explore possible causes of a 1988 incidence peak of infant neuroblastoma in west German regions which were contaminated with more than 6000 Bq/m2 Cs137 from the Chernobyl accident. The primary working hypothesis was that parents of the diseased children had been contaminated by an excessive intake of locally produced food, especially mushrooms or deer. Temporal control of xyloglucan self-assembly into layered structures by radiation-induced degradation

Partially degalactosylated xyloglucan from tamarind seeds (Deg-XG) is a very appealing biopolymer for the production of in situ gelling systems at physiological temperature. In this work, we observe that the morphology of hydrogels evolves towards high degrees of structural organization with time, yielding to dense stacks of thin membranes within 24 h of incubation at 37 °C. We also explore the possibility offered by gamma irradiation of controlling the time scale of this phenomenon, the final morphology and mechanical properties of the system. Amphiphilic polyaspartamide copolymer-based micelles for rivastigmine delivery to neuronal cells

A novel polysorbate-80 (PS(80))-attached amphiphilic copolymer comprising a hydrophilic α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-D,L-aspartamide (PHEA) backbone and hydrophobic squalenyl-C(17) (Sq(17)) portions was synthesized and characterized; the formation of polymeric micelles was also evaluated. Rivastigmine free-base (Riv), a hydrophobic drug employed to treat Alzheimer's disease, was chosen as model drug to investigate micelle's ability to incorporate hydrophobic molecules and target them to neuronal cells. Gamma enolase expression as early marker of neuronal differentiation of murine neuroblastoma cells N-115

In this study we determined the levels of gamma enolase mRNA in mouse neuroblastoma cell line N-115 at early period of induction of differentiation by serum withdrawal. The expression of gamma enolase was examined by Northern blot analysis of total RNA extracted from cells induced for different lengths of time. We found a 3-fold increase in the level of gamma enolase mRNA after 24 hours of induction of differentiation and higher levels were detected in cells induced for longer time, reaching a 10-fold increase after four days.

We have used a retrograde labeling technique to identify motorneurons for each of the 30 body wall muscles of an abdominal hemisegment in the late stage 16Drosophilaembryo. Comment on "Human Neuroblasts Migrate to the Olfactory Bulb via a Lateral Ventricular Extension"

Curtis et al . (Research Articles, 2 March 2007, p. 1243) claimed discovery of a human neuronal migratory stream to the olfactory bulb along a putative lateral ventricular extension. However, high levels of proliferation reported with proliferating cell nuclear antigen were not confirmed using different markers, neuronal chain migration was not demonstrated, and no serial reconstruction shows a true ventricular extension.
