Inside Front Cover: A Combined Top-Down/Bottom-Up Approach for the Nanoscale Patterning of Spin-Crossover Coordination Polymers (Adv. Mater. 16/2007)

2007

The background scanning electron microscopy image shows nanometric patterns of the 3D spin crossover coordination polymer Fe(pyrazine)[Pt(CN)4] (see schematic structure in the circle), which have been fabricated using a combination of lift-off and multilayer sequential assembly methods. These patterns, reported by Gabor Molnar, Azzedine Bousseksou, and co-workers on p. 2163, exhibit a bistability of their electronic states (1A1 ⇌ 5T2), and thus represent a novel platform for a wide array of potential applications.

Cell Specific Targeting of Multifunctional γ-Fe2O3 Nanoparticles Through Surface Binding of dsDNA

2007

AbstractThe immobilization of polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid [poly(IC)] on ã-Fe2O3 maghemite nanoparticles via the phosphor-amidate route using a multifunctional polymer is reported. The dsRNA coupled nanoparticles were used to visualize the Toll-like (TLR3) receptors at the cell surface. The presence of TLR3 was demonstrated independently in the Caki-1 cell line by RT-PCR and immunostaining techniques

Enzyme-Mediated Deposition of a TiO2Coating onto Biofunctionalized WS2 Chalcogenide Nanotubes

2009

A chemically specific and facile method for the biofunctionalization of WS2 nanotubes (NT-WS2) is reported. The covalent modification strategy is based on the affinity of the nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) side chain, which serves as a ligand for the surface binding to NT-WS2 and simultaneously as an anchor group for the binding of His-tagged proteins to the polymer backbone. The polymer functionalized WS2 nanotubes can be solubilized either in water or organic solvents; they are stable for at least one week. The probes were characterized by FT-IR and UV-vis spectroscopy. The immobilization of silicatein, a hydrolytic protein encountered in marine sponges, was visualized by scanning force micr…

Mass spectrometrical detection of polymer particles in capsule tissue surrounding joint endoprotheses of polyethyleneterephthalate

1982

Pyrolysis mass spectrometry of synthetic high polymers is described. The method is used to detect polymer wear particles in capsule tissue surrounding endoprotheses with polyethyleneterephthalate parts. An approximation of semi-quantitative determination of the polymer wear will be discussed.

A Versatile Technique to Produce Porous Polymeric Scaffolds: The Thermally Induced Phase Separation (TIPS) Method

2017

Among the various scaffold fabrication techniques, thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) is one of the most versatile methods to produce porous polymeric scaffold and it has been largely used for its capability to produce highly porous and interconnected scaffolds. The scaffold architecture can be closely controlled by varying the process parameters, including polymer type and concentration, solvent/non-solvent ratio and thermal history. TIPS technique has been widely employed, also, to produce scaffolds with a hierarchical pore structure and composite polymeric matrix/inorganic filler foams.

Quantifying the inverse spin-Hall effect in highly doped PEDOT:PSS

2020

The authors provide experimental results that show the onset of the Nernst effect, thermovoltages and an inverse spin-Hall effect in the polymer PEDOT:PSS. Specifically, the observed inverse spin-Hall effect appears to be smaller than other measurements, but in better agreement with theoretical calculations.

Halloysite Nanotubes for Cleaning, Consolidation and Protection

2017

Herein, we report our recent research concerning the development of halloysite based protocols for cleaning, consolidation and protection purposes. Surface modification of halloysite cavity by anionic surfactants was explored to fabricate inorganic micelles able to solubilize hydrophobic contaminants. Hybrid dispersions based on halloysite and ecocompatible polymers were tested as consolidants for paper and waterlogged archaeological woods. Encapsulation of deacidifying and flame retardant agents within the halloysite lumen was conducted with aim to obtain nanofiller with a long-term protection ability. The results prove the suitability and versatility of halloysite nanotubes, which are per…

A fluorinated 2D magnetic coordination polymer

2021

Herein we show the versatility of coordination chemistry to design and expand a family of 2D materials by incorporating F groups at the surface of the layers. Through the use of a prefuntionalized organic linker with F groups, it is possible to achieve a layered magnetic material based on Fe(ii) centers that are chemically stable in open air, contrary to the known 2D inorganic magnetic materials. The high quality of the single crystals and their robustness allow to fabricate 2D molecular materials by micromechanical exfoliation, preserving the crystalline nature of these layers together with the desired functionalization.

Surface and Intercalation Chemistry of Polycarboxylate Copolymers in Cementitious Systems.

2009

International audience; The Ca–Al-layered double hydroxide, the so-called AFm phase, is a product of cement hydration. It is shown that the interaction of this phase with anionic polycarboxylate ether (PCE)-based dispersant polymers is not a simple adsorption but a more complex intercalation phenomenon leading to the transient sequestration of the PCE within the AFm crystallites. As a result, part of the PCE is immobilized, forming a layered organo-mineral composite, and does not play its role of a dispersing agent. This article presents, along general considerations on the links between cement chemistry and rheology, a detailed investigation of the formation, structure, and stability of a …
