Evaluation of a new Cr-free alloy as interconnect material for hydrogen production by high temperature water vapour electrolysis: Study in cathode at…

2012

International audience; For economic and ecological reasons, hydrogen is considered as a major energetic vector for the future. Hydrogen production via high temperature water vapour electrolysis (HTE) is a promising technology. A major technical difficulty related to high temperature water vapour electrolysis is the development of interconnects working efficiently for a long period. Working temperature of 800 degrees C enables the use of metallic materials as interconnects. High temperature corrosion behaviour and electrical conductivity of a new Cr-free Fe-Ni-Co alloy were tested in cathode atmosphere (H-2/H2O) at 800 degrees C. The alloy exhibits a poor oxidation resistance but an excelle…

Optimisation of metallic interconnects for hydrogen production by high temperature water vapour electrolysis

2012

For economical and environmental reasons, hydrogen is considered as a major energetic vector for the future. Hydrogen production via high temperature water vapour electrolysis (HTE) is a promising technology. A major technical difficulty related to high temperature water vapour electrolysis is the development of interconnects working efficiently for a long period. Working temperature of 800°C enables the use of metallic materials as interconnects. Chromia forming alloys are among the best candidates. The interconnect material chosen in the present study is a ferritic stainless steel with 18% chromium content. High temperature corrosion resistance and electrical conductivity of the alloy was…

Gas sensitive luminescence of ZnO coatings obtained by plazma electrolytic oxidation

2015

Abstract The ZnO coatings on Zn substrate were obtained using plasma electrolytic oxidation method. The XRD and SEM methods were used for structural and morphological characterization of obtained coatings. The luminescence of ZnO coatings were studied and compared with luminescence characteristics of ZnO single crystal. It is shown that luminescence intensity in ZnO defect band depends on oxygen concentration in ambient atmosphere. The effect is of interest for oxygen sensing based on ZnO coating luminescence.

Phosphites as precursors in atomic layer deposition thin film synthesis

2021

We here demonstrate a new route for deposition of phosphorous based materials by atomic layer deposition (ALD) using the phosphites Me3PO3 or Et3PO3 as precursors. These contain phosphorous in the oxidation state (III) and are open for deposition of reduced phases by ALD. We have investigated their applicability for the synthesis of LiPO and AlPO materials and characterized their growth by means of in situ quartz crystal microbalance. Phosphites are good alternatives to the established phosphate-based synthesis routes as they have high vapor pressure and are compatible with water as a coreactant during deposition. The deposited materials have been characterized using XPS, x-ray fluorescence…

Frictional behaviour of oxygen diffusion hardened titanium in dry sliding against Co–28Cr–5W–4Fe–3Ni–1Si cobalt alloy

2004

Abstract The results of conformal pin-on-disc tribological tests of a hard layer of the solid solution of oxygen in α-titanium sliding against a Co–28Cr–5W–4Fe–3Ni–1Si cobalt alloy counterspecimen are presented. The α-Ti(O) layer was diffusely produced over 2–8 h of oxidising in the superficial zone of a technical quality titanium specimen. The friction and wear responses of the system were recorded and the wear mechanisms were studied. Investigations of the material structure and chemical constitution in micro-areas of the titanium specimen, cobalt alloy counterspecimen and wear debris formed in dry sliding were performed with a Philips XL20 microscope equipped with an EDAX analyser. Crush…

The role of organoclay and matrix type in photo-oxidation of polyolefin/clay nanocomposite films

2009

Abstract In this paper the photo-oxidation behaviour of polyolefin/clay nanocomposite films was studied; in particular, the effect of the amount of organo-modifier and the matrix polarity on the photo-oxidation was investigated. Two different organo-modified clays and compositions of LDPE/EVA blend films were used and the photo-oxidation was followed by mechanical and spectroscopic analyses. The organoclay and matrix type strongly influence the photo-oxidative behaviour of nanocomposite films. The films filled with CL15A show a faster loss of mechanical performance and higher carbonyl formation with respect to the films filled with the CL20A. Additionally, the LDPE based nanocomposite under…

Nanoscale oxide growth on Al single crystals at low temperatures: Variable charge molecular dynamics simulations

2006

We investigate the oxidation of aluminum low-index surfaces [(100), (110), and (111)] at low temperatures (300-600 K) and three different gas pressure values. We use molecular dynamics (MD) simulations with dynamic charge transfer between atoms where the interaction between atoms is described by the Es+ potential composed of the embedded atom method (EAM) potential and an electrostatic contribution. In the considered temperature range and under different gas pressure conditions, the growth kinetics follow a direct logarithmic law where the oxide thickness is limited to a value of ∼3 nm. The fitted curves allow us to determine the temperature and the pressure dependencies of the parameters i…

Oxide-based nanomaterials for fuel cell catalysis:the interplay between supported single Pt atoms and particles

2017

The concept of single atom catalysis offers maximum noble metal efficiency for the development of low-cost catalytic materials. Among possible applications are catalytic materials for proton exchange membrane fuel cells. In the present review, recent efforts towards the fabrication of single atom catalysts on nanostructured ceria and their reactivity are discussed in the prospect of their employment as anode catalysts. The remarkable performance and the durability of the ceria-based anode catalysts with ultra-low Pt loading result from the interplay between two states associated with supported atomically dispersed Pt and sub-nanometer Pt particles. The occurrence of these two states is a co…

Redox-Responsive and Thermoresponsive Supramolecular Nanosheet Gels with High Young's Moduli

2018

Supramolecular gels made from 2D building blocks are emerging as one of the novel multifunctional soft materials for various applications. This study reports on a class of supramolecular nanosheet gels formed through a reversible self-assembly process involving both intramolecular folding and intermolecular self-assembly of poly[oligo(ethylene glycol)-co-(phenyl-capped bithiophenes)]. Such hierarchical self-assembled structure allows the gels to switch between sol and gel states under either redox or thermostimulus. Moreover, the gels illustrate high Young's moduli, compared to their controls that are made from the same oligo(ethylene glycol) and phenyl-capped bithiophenes blocks but have h…
