Spectral Invariance and Submultiplicativity for the Algebras of S(M, g)-pseudo-differential Operators on Manifolds

For appropriate triples (M, g, M), where M is an (in general non-compact) manifold, g is a metric on T*M, and M is a weight function on T* M, we developed in [5] a pseudo-differential calculus on.A.4 which is based on the S(M, g)-calculus of L. Hormander [30] in local models. Here we prove that the algebra of operators of order zero is a submultiplicative Ψ*-algebra in the sense of B. Gramsch [21] in \( \mathcal{L}\left( {{L^2}\left( M \right)} \right)\). For the basic calculus we generalized the concept of E. Schrohe [40] of so-called SG-compatible manifolds. Elliptic convolution operators on non-quasianalytic classes

For those nonquasianalytic classes in which an extension of the classical Borel's theorem holds we show that every elliptic convolution operator is the composition of a translation and an invertible ultradifferential operator. This answers a question asked by Chou in: La transformation de Fourier complexe et l'equation de convolution, LNM 325, Berlin-Heidelberg-New York (1973).

A spatial theory is developed for * - derivations of an algebra of unbounded operators, in terms of the concept of O*-dynamical systems. Three notions of spatiality emerge, depending on the nature of the corresponding generator. Special emphasis is put on O*-dynamical systems generated by one-parameter groups of *-automorphisms and their *-derivations.

Current Algebras as Hilbert Space Operator Cocycles

Aspects of a generalized representation theory of current algebras in 3 + 1 dimensions axe discussed. Rules for a systematic computation of vacuum expectation values of products of currents are described. Their relation to gauge group actions in bundles of fermionic Fock spaces and to the sesquilinear form approach of Langmann and Ruijsenaars is explained. The regularization for a construction of an operator cocycle representation of the current algebra is explained. An alternative formula for the Schwinger terms defining gauge group extensions is written in terms of Wodzicki residue and Dixmier trace.

On many-sorted algebraic closure operators

A theorem of Birkhoff-Frink asserts that every algebraic closure operator on an ordinary set arises, from some algebraic structure on the set, as the corresponding generated subalgebra operator. However, for many-sorted sets, i.e., indexed families of sets, such a theorem is not longer true without qualification. Comparison between the shifted-Laplacian preconditioning and the controllability methods for computational acoustics

Processes that can be modelled with numerical calculations of acoustic pressure fields include medical and industrial ultrasound, echo sounding, and environmental noise. We present two methods for making these calculations based on Helmholtz equation. The first method is based directly on the complex-valued Helmholtz equation and an algebraic multigrid approximation of the discretized shifted-Laplacian operator; i.e. the damped Helmholtz operator as a preconditioner. The second approach returns to a transient wave equation, and finds the time-periodic solution using a controllability technique. An algebraic multigrid based shifted-Laplacian preconditioner for the Helmholtz equation

A preconditioner defined by an algebraic multigrid cycle for a damped Helmholtz operator is proposed for the Helmholtz equation. This approach is well suited for acoustic scattering problems in complicated computational domains and with varying material properties. The spectral properties of the preconditioned systems and the convergence of the GMRES method are studied with linear, quadratic, and cubic finite element discretizations. Numerical experiments are performed with two-dimensional problems describing acoustic scattering in a cross-section of a car cabin and in a layered medium. The Transfer Function Method (TFM), recommended by American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), is one of the most modern tools available to solve heat transfer problems in building envelopes and environments.
