Analytical Model for wideband THz sources and detectors based on Optical Rectification and Electro-Optic Sampling
2013
An analytical model describing a laser based set-up for wideband THz generation and detection is presented. Particular attention is focused on the main broadband phenomena, which occur when THz radiations have to be handled.
Electrochemical synthesis of benzoxazoles from anilides - a new approach to employ amidyl radical intermediates.
2017
A novel electrochemical method for the synthesis of benzoxazoles from readily available anilides is reported. Various functionalities are tolerated and good yields can be achieved. By employing common electrode materials and a simple constant current protocol, this method is an attractive new alternative to conventional pathways.
Simple and scalable electrochemical synthesis of 2,1-benzisoxazoles and quinoline N-oxides.
2019
Cathodic reduction of the nitro moiety and subsequent intramolecular cyclization affords different substituted 2,1-benzisoxazoles and quinoline N-oxides. This methodology allows the synthesis of two different types of heterocycles from common simple starting materials, using electrons as a sole reagent for this transformation. The electrolysis can be conducted in a very simple undivided electrolysis cell under constant current conditions. This permits working on a larger scale compared to other electrochemical methodologies and represents a significant advantage.
Reaction Condition Screening by Using Electrochemical Microreactor: Application to Anodic Phenol-arene C,C Cross-Coupling Reaction in High Acceptor N…
2013
The anodic phenol-arene C,C cross-coupling reaction was achieved in inexpensive and sustainable media such as methanol, acetic acid, and formic acid by using an electrochemical microreactor which can provide a better performance to screen reaction conditions than in standard beaker-type electrolysis cells. Especially, formic acid as a reaction medium showed good performance. The total amount of cross-coupling product and homo-coupling products as a by-product was clearly increased as the solvent acceptor number increased. To control the selective oxidation of phenol, addition of methanol was effective.
The effect of hydration layers on the anodic growth and on the dielectric properties of Al2O3 for electrolytic capacitors
2014
Hydrous films were grown on high purity and cubicity Al foils for electrolytic capacitors in deionized water, ethylene glycol - deionized water and in glycerol - deionized water for different immersion times. According to the X-ray diffraction patterns the hydration treatment allowed to grow a pseudo boehmite layer on Al surface whose morphology is appreciably affected by the bath composition. Capacitance measurements and photoelectrochemical findings suggest that a more compact barrier layer forms during the immersion in alcohol containing solutions. The hydration in water allowed to save energy and to prepare more blocking oxide films. The beneficial effect of hydration in hot water on th…
A RADIATION CONDITION FOR UNIQUENESS IN A WAVE PROPAGATION PROBLEM FOR 2-D OPEN WAVEGUIDES
2009
We study the uniqueness of solutions of Helmholtz equation for a problem that concerns wave propagation in waveguides. The classical radiation condition does not apply to our problem because the inhomogeneity of the index of refraction extends to infinity in one direction. Also, because of the presence of a waveguide, some waves propagate in one direction with different propagation constants and without decaying in amplitude. Our main result provides an explicit condition for uniqueness which takes into account the physically significant components, corresponding to guided and non-guided waves; this condition reduces to the classical Sommerfeld-Rellich condition in the relevant cases. Final…
Communication modes in vector diffraction
2010
The communication modes, which mathematically correspond to singular value decomposition, have proven a useful concept in optical scalar-field diffraction, with applications in resolution studies, image synthesis, and wave propagation. For optical near-field geometries the communication modes have to be extended to electromagnetic field accounting for the polarization properties. In this paper we present the vector-valued communication modes method based on the rigorous electric-field diffraction integral. As a special case the transverse-electric scalar field modes are obtained. The intensity and polarization properties of the leading electromagnetic communication modes in near-field arran…

Sub-wavelength imaging of light confinement and propagation in SOI based photonic crystal devices
2006
A light source is coupled into photonic crystal devices and a near field optical probe is used to observe the electromagnetic field propagation and distribution at a sub-wavelength scale. Bloch modes are clearly observed.
