Clinical Behavior of Ceramic, Hybrid and Composite Onlays. A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

2020

A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to analyze the survival of onlay restorations in the posterior region, their clinical behavior according to the material used (ceramic reinforced with lithium disilicate, conventional feldspathic ceramic or reinforced with leucite; hybrid materials and composite), possible complications, and the factors influencing restoration success. The systematic review was based on the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) statement, without publication date or language restrictions. An electronic search was made in the PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Cochrane databases. After discarding duplicate publications and stu…

Application of Periodic Frames to Image Restoration

2014

In this chapter, we present examples of image restoration using periodic frames. Images to be restored were degraded by blurring, aggravated by random noise and random loss of significant number of pixels. The images are transformed by periodic frames designed in Sects. 17.2 and 17.4, which are extended to the 2D setting in a standard tensor product way. In the presented experiments, performances of different tight and semi-tight frames are compared between each other in identical conditions.

Uncertainty analysis and symmetry restoration in nuclear self-consistent methods

2015

This thesis contains two articles, in the following denoted by I and II, and an introduction to them. In Chapter 1, I present the theoretical models of nuclear structure. In Chapter 2, I introduce the basic ideas about the density functional theory (DFT) and self-consistent mean-field (SCMF) calculations. In Chapter 3, I give the formulae for the uncertainty propagation, which is the error analysis method used in article I. As a proper tool to survey the predictive power of theoretical models, the error analysis now has become more and more widely used. By analyzing the propagation of uncertainties, one tries to find out the e ectiveness of the calculation with a given parameter set obtaine…

Positive Computing as Paradigm to Overcome Barriers to Global Co-authoring of Open Educational Resources

2018

The adoption of Open Educational Resources (OER) can support collaboration and knowledge sharing. One of the main areas of the usage OER is the internationalization, i.e., the use in a global context. However, the globally distributed co-creation of digital materials is still low. Therefore, we identify essential barriers, in particular for co-authoring of OER in global environments. We use a design science research method to introduce a barrier framework for co-authoring OER in global settings and propose a wellbeing-based system design constructed from the barrier framework for OER co-authoring tool. We describe how positive computing concepts can be used to overcome barriers, emphasizing…

Design principles for collaboration platforms for open education

2015

Increasing the current low uptake of Open Education Resources (OER) is a key challenge for researchers and practitioners in the field. User studies have shown that collaboration is a main success factor for successful open educational activities. However, effective collaboration in open educational contexts requires well planned processes and platforms supporting collaboration, in particular in physically distributed settings. We have been investigating the value of such platforms, their main features and user requirements to enable collaboration from immature ideas to completed resources. We used quantitative and qualitative research methods to collect insights from potential users of such…

Developing cloud business models: A case study on cloud gaming

2011

Cloud computing offers new ways for firms to operate in the global market so that even small firms can compete in markets traditionally dominated by multinational corporations. A case study considers how, over ten years, a small firm developed a successful business model to compete in computer gaming. peerReviewed

Enhancing the experience of online users of open education

2014

The limited adoption of Open Educational Resources (OER) has kicked off the launch of several projects to search for possible solutions. One of these projects is “Open Educational Ideas and Innovations” (OEI2). The goal of this project is to find alternatives for increasing the uptake of OER and facilitating the collaborative development of OER. To enhance the experience of the users of open education, we interviewed twelve educators and researchers from different higher education institutions across Europe focusing on gathering insights about idea sharing experiences. In this paper, we present our key findings based on these interviews and outline some recommendations for our next open edu…

Flexible entity search on surfaces

2016

Surface computing allows flexible search interaction where users can manipulate the representation of entities recommended for them to create new queries or augment existing queries by taking advantage of increased screen estate and almost physical tactile interaction. We demonstrate a search system based on 1) Direct Manipulation of Entity Representation on Surfaces and 2) Entity Recommendation and Document Retrieval. Entities are modeled as a knowledge-graph and the relevances of entities are computed using the graph structure. Users can manipulate the representation of entities via spatial grouping and assigning preferences on entities. Our contribution can help to design effective infor…

Tube transport of water vapor with condensation and desorption

2013

Attenuation and delay of active tracers in tube transport is an important current problem, but its full explanation is still lacking. To this end a model is introduced, where part of a tracer undergoes condensation and evaporation, treated as a diffusion-type process, in addition to Taylor dispersion. Condensation of water was verified by high-speed imaging, and the model solution fitted the breakthrough curves of laboratory measurements with pulses of water vapor of varying relative humidity. The model provides a transfer function whose performance was verified against field measurements. peerReviewed

Huoli kuvasta : merkitys, mieli, materiaalisuus

2017

This research is a hybrid of a monograph and a multiple-article dissertation. Its theoretical starting point is a phenomenologically based view of the being of the image, in which Georges Didi-Huberman´s work plays a central role. For him, as well as for Mieke Bal, a historical work of art is never only in the distant past only but also exists in the present actuality. This makes the temporality of the Image extremely complex. The Image can be encountered only “pre-posterously” (Bal) or by reading it “against the grain” (Didi-Huberman). The Image is necessarily anachronistic; it is not in time but opens up time. This fact should be taken into account not only in art history, but also in art…
