2016

Structural Correspondence Between Organizational Theories
2021
AbstractOrganizational research constitutes a differentiated, complex and fragmented field with multiple contradicting and incommensurable theories that make fundamentally different claims about the social and organizational reality. In contrast to natural sciences, the progress in this field can’t be attributed to the principle of truthlikeness where theories compete against each other and only best theories survive and prove they are closer to the truth and thus demonstrate scientific knowledge accumulation. We defend the structural realist view on the nature of organizational theories in order to demonstrate that despite the multiplicity of isolated and competing explanations of organiza…

Context as a Provider of Key Resources for Succession: A Case Study of Sustainable Family Firms
2019
[EN] Although succession is the single most important issue in family-owned businesses (FOBs), there is scarce comprehensive and integrative analysis of the context (i.e., the social, organizational, and normative setting) where succession events occur. Research usually focuses on the success or failure of succession processes, instead of the risks faced by FOBs during succession. The succession process takes time and multiple actors are involved. Therefore, succession is influenced by uncertainty and unforeseen events. This study addresses the aforementioned gap in the literature by investigating how context can reduce the risk of failure in succession. Based on organizational change theor…

Masteroppgave i idrettsvitenskap - Universitetet i Agder 2016 The purpose of this master thesis has been to locate which strategic choices Stabæk Fotball have made from 2012-2015 in order to survive as a high level football club. The study has an organizational perspective, and the changing processes of the club are analyzed by using the Pettigrew´s (1987) contextualist approach. The problem I wanted to address: Which strategic choices have Stabæk Fotball made to survive as a high level football club? This master thesis is based on a qualitative case study method. The data has been collected mainly by depth interview with five persons, and looking at the accounting of the club´s business as…
Vote buying and Its effect on democracy and development in Uganda : a case of Rwamucucu Sub-County, Kabale District, South Western Uganda
2016
Master thesis development management - University of Agder 2016 In this study, I have investigated vote buying and vote selling as a phenomenon in Uganda, using Rwamucucu Sub-County as a case. The major aim has been to understand local people’s perception of vote buying and selling and its effect on democracy and development. I have utilized a qualitative research strategy, using mainly semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions and field observations. The data were collected during the time of the 2016 Uganda general elections. Results indicate that vote buying has been extensive in Rwamucucu, and that it had increased significantly during the last 20 years. The study also shows t…
Is the European Commission a hothouse for supranationalism? : theorising and exploring the world of Commission civil servants
2005
Does the European Commission (Commission) manage to transform and re-direct the roles played by Commission civil servants? To test the old neo-functionalist claim on loyalty transfer among civil servants, this article provides fresh survey and interview data on seconded national experts in the Commission. The transformative powers of the Commission are tested by assessing the extent to which seconded national experts adopt supranational role perceptions. Theoretically, the emergence of supranational role perceptions is accounted for by considering (i) processes of pre-socialisation outside the Commission, (ii) processes of resocialisation inside the Commission, and (iii) organisational inco…
