Šis pētījums ir veltīts Négritude fenomenam un afrikaņu literatūras dzimšanai 20.gadsimta sākuma. Pēc gadsimtiem ilgas sociālās nevienlidzības un verdzības afrikāņi atrada Jauno afrikaņu filozofiju, kas kļuva par afrikaņu humanisma sākumu. Afrikāņu dabas, kultūras tradīciju un melnās Āfrikas estētikas pētījums ir bbalstīts tagadējā pētījumā no dzejoļu krājuma „Dziesmu ēnu”tekstiem. Sekojošā metode tiek realizēta, pateicoties izvēleta semantisko lauku analīzei.
Building Bridges for Innovation in Ageing: Synergies between Action Groups of the EIP on AHA.

The Strategic Implementation Plan of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP on AHA) proposed six Action Groups. After almost three years of activity, many achievements have been obtained through commitments or collaborative work of the Action Groups. However, they have often worked in silos and, consequently, synergies between Action Groups have been proposed to strengthen the triple win of the EIP on AHA. The paper presents the methodology and current status of the Task Force on EIP on AHA synergies. Synergies are in line with the Action Groups' new Renovated Action Plan (2016-2018) to ensure that their future objectives are coherent and fully connected. The …
Choline is a Selective Agonist of α7 Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptors in the Rat Brain Neurons

In the present study, we demonstrate that choline, a precursor of acetylcholine (ACh) and a product of acetylcholine hydrolysis by acetylcholinesterase (AChE), acts as an efficient and relatively selective agonist of alpha7-containing nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) in neurons cultured from the rat hippocampus, olfactory bulb and thalamus as well as in PC12 cells. Choline was able to activate postsynaptic and presynaptic alpha7 nAChRs, with the latter action resulting in the release of other neurotransmitters. Although choline was approximately one order of magnitude less potent than ACh (EC50 of 1.6 mM for choline and 0.13 mM for ACh), it acted as a full agonist at alpha7 nAChRs.…
Shock control bump design optimization on natural laminar aerofoil

The chapter investigates Shock Control Bumps (SCB) on a Natural Laminar Flow (NLF) aerofoil; RAE 5243 for Active Flow Control (AFC). A SCB approach is used to decelerate supersonic flow on the suction/pressure sides of transonic aerofoil that leads delaying shock occurrence or weakening of shock strength. Such an AFC technique reduces significantly the total drag at transonic speeds. This chapter considers the SCB shape design optimisation at two boundary layer transition positions (0 and 45%) using an Euler software coupled with viscous boundary layer effects and robust Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs). Pētījuma aktualitāte: Mūsdienās, akūtas sāpes bezsamaņā esošiem pacientiem objektivizēt ir sarežģīti. Analgēzijas Nocicepcijas Indekss (ANI) ir jauna metode, kas ir paredzēta akūtu sāpju diagnostikai, gadījumos, kad pacients nav pie samaņas. Mērķis: Noteikt ANI efektivitāti akūtu sāpju detekcijā vispārējās anestēzijas (VA) iespaidā esošiem pacientiem. Hipotēze: ANI ir noderīgs palīgrīks anesteziologiem savlaicīgai intraoperatīvai akūtu sāpju detekcijai un personalizētai pacienta atsāpināšanas terapijai. Este trabajo repasa el tratamiento del episodio en las mencionadas fuentes, entre las cuales no le dan credibilidad Plutarco, Arriano y Estrabón, frente a la llamada Vulgata de Alejandro procedente de Clitarco, que incluye el griego Diodoro de Sicilia y los latinos Curcio y Justino. A Teaching proposal for the study of eigenvectors and eigenvalues

[EN] In this work, we present a teaching proposal which emphasizes on visualization and physical applications in the study of eigenvectors and eigenvalues. These concepts are introduced using the notion of the moment of inertia of a rigid body and the GeoGebra software. The proposal was motivated after observing students¿ difficulties when treating eigenvectors and eigenvalues from a geometric point of view. It was designed following a particular sequence of activities with the schema: exploration, introduction of concepts, structuring of knowledge and application, and considering the three worlds of mathematical thinking provided by Tall: embodied, symbolic and formal.

Cellular Prion Protein Participates in Amyloid-β Transcytosis across the Blood—Brain Barrier

The blood—brain barrier (BBB) facilitates amyloid-β (Aβ) exchange between the blood and the brain. Here, we found that the cellular prion protein (PrPc), a putative receptor implicated in mediating Aβ neurotoxicity in Alzheimer's disease (AD), participates in Aβ transcytosis across the BBB. Using an in vitro BBB model, [125I]-Aβ1–40 transcytosis was reduced by genetic knockout of PrPc or after addition of a competing PrPc-specific antibody. Furthermore, we provide evidence that PrPc is expressed in endothelial cells and, that monomeric Aβ1–40 binds to PrPc. These observations provide new mechanistic insights into the role of PrPc in AD.
