Occupational exposure to pesticides and congenital malformations: A review of mechanisms, methods, and results

1998

Pesticides are chemicals that are widely used all over the world. Human beings can be exposed through environmental contamination and/or occupational use of pesticides. Although there is substantial information on the acute toxicity of many of these chemicals, available knowledge on delayed effects is much more limited. This paper reviews epidemiological studies on occupational exposure to pesticides, mainly in agricultural workers, and risk of congenital malformations. The discussion includes postulated mechanisms for birth defects from paternal or maternal exposure, a detailed review of method of the studies carried out so far on the relationship between occupational exposure to pesticide…

Oral squamous cell carcinoma mimicking osteonecrosis of the jaw: a case report

2021

Osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) is a well-known adverse drug reaction to bisphosphonate (BP) treatment. ONJ diagnosis is usually based on the patient’s medical/medication histories and on the clinical/radiological features of necrotic bone (frequently exposed). Furthermore, in case of mandibular involvement, patients may present pain and/or hypesthesia of the inferior alveolar nerve. There are no pathognomonic clinical and radiological signs of ONJ, and in doubtful cases, the histologic examination is recommended. We report a case of a woman attending to our sector of Oral Medicine (AOUP “P. Giaccone” Palermo, Italy) with a mandibular bone exposure after implants loss and a medical history o…

„JESTEŚ TYM, CO JESZ” : o potędze „czystej” diety

2022

Scientific Opinion addressing the state of the science on risk assessment of plant protection products for in‐soil organisms

2017

Abstract Following a request from EFSA, the Panel on Plant Protection Products and their Residues developed an opinion on the science behind the risk assessment of plant protection products for in‐soil organisms. The current risk assessment scheme is reviewed, taking into account new regulatory frameworks and scientific developments. Proposals are made for specific protection goals for in‐soil organisms being key drivers for relevant ecosystem services in agricultural landscapes such as nutrient cycling, soil structure, pest control and biodiversity. Considering the time‐scales and biological processes related to the dispersal of the majority of in‐soil organisms compared to terrestrial non…

Impact de la flore adventice sur la rétention des pesticides : développement d’un nouvel indicateur pour l’évaluation des systèmes de culture

2016

Weeds are usually considered as harmful for crops but they are essential for biodiversity. Indicators were already developed using the model FLORSYS (Colbach et al., 2014) to evaluate the cropping system in term of harmfullness or benefits related to weed flora. We thus propose a new indicator to evaluate the potential of pesticide retention by weed flora and its impact on pesticide transfer into the environment. The indicator is divided in two parts i) herbicide application efficiency (herbicides interception by weeds), ii) plant uptake for the others pesticides. Several cropping systems have been simulated with the FLORSYS model. Preliminary results have been analyzed using the tree regre…

La pedagogia nell'età moderna

2022

This chapter presents the pedagogical reflection of some authors of the modern age, Comenius, Rousseau, Pestalozzi, Herbart, the Positivists, who contributed to building an identity of pedagogical knowledge as a knowledge independent of philosophy.

Lezione 9 – Breve storia dell’epistemologia pedagogica moderna

2017

A genomic reappraisal of symbiotic function in the aphid/Buchnera symbiosis: reduced transporter sets and variable membrane organisations.

2011

International audience; Buchnera aphidicola is an obligate symbiotic bacterium that sustains the physiology of aphids by complementing their exclusive phloem sap diet. In this study, we reappraised the transport function of different Buchnera strains, from the aphids Acyrthosiphon pisum, Schizaphis graminum, Baizongia pistaciae and Cinara cedri, using the re-annotation of their transmembrane proteins coupled with an exploration of their metabolic networks. Although metabolic analyses revealed high interdependencies between the host and the bacteria, we demonstrate here that transport in Buchnera is assured by low transporter diversity, when compared to free-living bacteria, being mostly bas…
