Engineering a 2D protein-DNA crystal.

(Figure Presented) Weaving with DNA: A DNA-binding protein was used to control the structure of a self-assembled 2D crystal. In the absence of protein, four oligonucleotides hybridize to form a Kagome lattice of interwoven double helices with p3 symmetry (see image). Addition of protein RuvA during assembly changes the symmetry and connectivity to give a DNA-protein crystal with an approximately square unit cell. © 2005 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH and Co. KGaA.

Superfluid density and quasi-long-range order in the one-dimensional disordered Bose–Hubbard model

We study the equilibrium properties of the one-dimensional disordered Bose-Hubbard model by means of a gauge-adaptive tree tensor network variational method suitable for systems with periodic boundary conditions. We compute the superfluid stiffness and superfluid correlations close to the superfluid to glass transition line, obtaining accurate locations of the critical points. By studying the statistics of the exponent of the power-law decay of the correlation, we determine the boundary between the superfluid region and the Bose glass phase in the regime of strong disorder and in the weakly interacting region, not explored numerically before. Stability of Morphine, Morphine-3-Glucuronide, and Morphine-6-Glucuronide in Fresh Blood and Plasma and Postmortem Blood Samples

The present study was designed to determine the stability of morphine and its glucuronides in spiked fresh blood and plasma from live individuals as well as in four authentic postmortem blood specimens for a time interval of up to six months. The samples were stored in glass vials at -20 degrees C, 4 degrees C, and 20 degrees C. Abstract Often, for the design of a component, several kinds of analyses are needed. Even more frequently, the different fields of study, to be taken into account for the design verification, have to be examined minutely until the final results are satisfying. Efficient Computation of Multiscale Entropy over Short Biomedical Time Series Based on Linear State-Space Models

The most common approach to assess the dynamical complexity of a time series across multiple temporal scales makes use of the multiscale entropy (MSE) and refined MSE (RMSE) measures. In spite of their popularity, MSE and RMSE lack an analytical framework allowing their calculation for known dynamic processes and cannot be reliably computed over short time series. Preneoplastic somatic mutations including MYD88(L265P) in lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma

Normal cell counterparts of solid and myeloid tumors accumulate mutations years before disease onset; whether this occurs in B lymphocytes before lymphoma remains uncertain. We sequenced multiple stages of the B lineage in elderly individuals and patients with lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma, a singular disease for studying lymphomagenesis because of the high prevalence of mutated MYD88 . We observed similar accumulation of random mutations in B lineages from both cohorts and unexpectedly found MYD88 L265P in normal precursor and mature B lymphocytes from patients with lymphoma. The aim of this paper is the study of the RF multipactor breakdown in coaxial transmission lines excited by a single carrier with a digitally modulated signal. Employing an in-house developed code, numerical simulations are performed to determine the RF multipactor voltage threshold for several digitally modulated signals under different modulations schemes: quadrature phase-shift keying, 16-quadrature amplitude modulation, 16-amplitude and phase-shift keying, and 32-amplitude and phase-shift keying.
