ABSTRACT Klebsiella pneumoniae sequence type (ST) 307, carrying bla KPC-3 , bla CTX-M-15 , bla OXA-1 , aac(6′)-Ib-cr , and qnrB 1 genes, is replacing the predominant hyperepidemic ST258 clone in Italy. Whole-genome and complete plasmid sequencing of one ST307 strain was performed and new features were identified.
The genomic sequence of Exiguobacterium chiriqhucha str. N139 reveals a species that thrives in cold waters and extreme environmental conditions

We report the genome sequence of Exiguobacterium chiriqhucha str. N139, isolated from a high-altitude Andean lake. Comparative genomic analyses of the Exiguobacterium genomes available suggest that our strain belongs to the same species as the previously reported E. pavilionensis str. RW-2 and Exiguobacterium str. GIC 31. We describe this species and propose the chiriqhucha name to group them. ‘Chiri qhucha’ in Quechua means ‘cold lake’, which is a common origin of these three cosmopolitan Exiguobacteria. Eight Erwinia strains, isolated from necrotic pear blossoms in València, Spain, were compared with reference strains of Erwinia amylovora and Erwinia pyrifoliae, both of which are pathogenic to species of pear tree, and to other species of the family Enterobacteriaceae using a polyphasic approach. Phenotypic analyses clustered the novel isolates into one phenon, distinct from other species of the genus Erwinia, showing that the novel isolates constituted a homogeneous phenotypic group. Lack of hepatitis B virus DNA sequences in sera from patients with acute and chronic liver diseases diagnosed as non-A, non-B-hepatitis

— The sera of 15 individuals with transfusion-associated acute or chronic non A, non B hepatitis, which lacked hepatitis B virus markers, were tested for hepatitis B virus DNA by dot blot hybridization test. Three sera of two patients positive in this test, however, also gave positive results when the labeled plasmid was used as probe instead of labeled HBV-DNA, indicating false positive results in the initial test. In conclusion, the data indicated that sera of patients with confirmed non A, non B hepatitis do not contain DNA-sequences in the serum hybridizing with HBV-DNA.
