Synchronization techniques for power quality instruments

2004

The measurement of voltage characteristics in power systems requires the accurate estimation of the power supply frequency and signal synchronization, even in the presence of disturbances. The authors developed and tested two innovative techniques for instrument synchronization. The first is based on signal spectral analysis techniques performed by means of the Chirp-Z transform analysis. The second is a phase-locked loop (PLL) software based on a time-domain coordinate transformation and an innovative phase-detection technique. To evaluate how synchronization techniques are adversely affected by the application of a disturbing influence, experimental tests were carried out, taking into acc…

A Phase-Locked Loop for the Synchronization of Power Quality Instruments in the Presence of Stationary and Transient Disturbances

2007

Power quality instrumentation requires accurate fundamental frequency estimation and signal synchronization, even in the presence of both stationary and transient disturbances. In this paper, the authors present a synchronization technique for power quality instruments based on a single-phase software phase-locked loop (PLL), which is able to perform the synchronization, even in the presence of such disturbances. Moreover, PLL is able to detect the occurrence of a transient disturbance. To evaluate if and how the synchronization technique is adversely affected by the application of stationary and transient disturbing influences, appropriate testing conditions have been developed, taking int…

Phase lock loop false lock avoidance in presence of global navigation satellite system signal

2009

In this paper we analyse the operation of a fully digital Phase Lock Loop (PLL) in a false lock regime, using real data. The issue has been noticed while we were testing performance of our software receiver in a moving user scenario. While the phenomenon of false lock has been described in other papers about PLLs, our intent is to describe a practical, and in our opinion interesting, issue we encountered and how we got over it.

Distributed and Lumped Parameter Models for the Characterization of High Throughput Bioreactors

2016

Next generation bioreactors are being developed to generate multiple human cell-based tissue analogs within the same fluidic system, to better recapitulate the complexity and interconnection of human physiology. The effective development of these devices requires a solid understanding of their interconnected fluidics, to predict the transport of nutrients and waste through the constructs and improve the design accordingly. In this work, we focus on a specific model of bioreactor, with multiple input/outputs, aimed at gen- erating osteochondral constructs, i.e., a biphasic construct in which one side is cartilagi- nous in nature, while the other is osseous. We next develop a general computat…

Effects of post-filtering in grid-synchronization algorithms under grid faults

2018

Abstract The spread of distributed generation systems has reinforced concerns and requirements on grid-tied power converters. The synchronization with the utility voltage vector is a major concern. In the literature, algorithms based on Phase Locked Loops are extensively presented. In spite of adequate performances under ideal and balanced grid conditions, under grid faults great inaccuracies arise. Shortcomings are overcome by advanced algorithms at the expenses of the complexity and computational cost. In this paper, grid synchronization algorithms are addressed. A solution is proposed by introducing a new post-filter stage in a Decoupled Double Synchronous Reference Frame not affecting, …

Cycles in continuous and discrete dynamical systems : computations, computer-assisted proofs, and computer experiments

2009

The present work is devoted to calculation of periodic solutions and bifurcation research in quadratic systems, Lienard system, and non-unimodal one-dimensional discrete maps using modern computational capabilities and symbolic computing packages. In the first chapter the problem of Academician A.N. Kolmogorov on localization and modeling of cycles of quadratic systems is considered. For the investigation of small limit cycles (so-called local 16th Hilbert’s problem) the method of calculation of Lyapunov quantities (or Poincaré-Lyapunov constants) is used. To calculate symbolic expressions for the Lyapunov quantities the Lyapunov method to the case of non-analytical systems was generalized. …

Blend scaffolds with polyaspartamide/polyester structure fabricated via TIPS and their RGDC functionalization to promote osteoblast adhesion and prol…

2019

Target of this work was to prepare a RGDC functionalized hybrid biomaterial via TIPS technique to achieve a more efficient control of osteoblast adhesion and diffusion on the three-dimensional (3D) scaffolds. Starting from a crystalline poly(l-lactic acid) (PLLA) and an amorphous alpha,beta-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl) (2-aminoethylcarbamate)-d,l-aspartamide-graft-polylactic acid (PHEA-EDA-g-PLA) copolymer, blend scaffolds were characterized by an appropriate porosity and pore interconnection. The PHEA-EDA-PLA interpenetration with PLLA improved hydrolytic susceptibility of hybrid scaffolds. The presence of free amino groups on scaffolds allowed to tether the cyclic RGD peptide (RGDC) via Michael…

Evaluation of mechanical and morphologic features of PLLA membranes as supports for perfusion cells culture systems

2015

Abstract Porous biodegradable PLLA membranes, which can be used as supports for perfusion cell culture systems were designed, developed and characterized. PLLA membranes were prepared via diffusion induced phase separation (DIPS). A glass slab was coated with a binary PLLA–dioxane solution (8 wt.% PLLA) via dip coating, then pool immersed in two subsequent coagulation baths, and finally dried in a humidity-controlled environment. Surface and mechanical properties were evaluated by measuring pore size, porosity via scanning electron microscopy, storage modulus, loss modulus and loss angle by using a dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). Cell adhesion assays on different membrane surfaces were a…

Integration of an LP Solver into Interval Constraint Propagation

2011

This paper describes the integration of an LP solver into iSAT, a Satisfiability Modulo Theories solver that can solve Boolean combinations of linear and nonlinear constraints. iSAT is a tight integration of the well-known DPLL algorithm and interval constraint propagation allowing it to reason about linear and nonlinear constraints. As interval arithmetic is known to be less efficient on solving linear programs, we will demonstrate how the integration of an LP solver can improve the overall solving performance of iSAT.
