Hugh MacDiarmid’s Poetics of Commitment: the Modern Stigmata of Bereavement
2016
In the 1930s, the lingering absence of God and of a stable reality engulfed the work of the poet Hugh MacDiarmid, leader of the Scottish Renaissance Movement. To counter this void, like many others at the time, MacDiarmid found refuge in communism and nationalism and started to write political and idealist poetry. In his poems, his political idealism comes into being in the association of reality and ideal, symbolised first by Jean and Sophia, the characters of A Drunk Man Looks at the Thistle (1926), and duplicated later in the fantasised image of Lenin, perfect blending of idea and action. Rejecting Sartre’s denial of the political effect poetry can have, the violence of MacDiarmid’s work…
Social, occupational and cultural adaptation in Antarctica
2017
International audience; Objectives & Method: This study investigated psychological, social, occupational and cultural variables in adaptation to a one-year wintering in Antarctica with 13 international participants. Results & Conclusion: These psychosocial issues have important implications for pre-mission selection and training, monitoring and support of crews during the mission and post-mission readaptation highlighting the role of psychologists in stressful and extreme situations.
Empowerment or the managerialisation of the teaching profession ?
2016
International audience; Transformations were introduced in France in order to better balance relationships between the professionals in education and its end users. It was meant to allow the right to inspect the school institution as well as to offer wider decision making powers regarding the schooling of children. For example, parents can contest suggestions for repeating a school year. To do so, they may call upon an 'arbitrator' from the Ministry of Education if and when they disagree with school practices. In a broader sense, they have to formulate the request themselves and ask for the child's integration into a 'special' unit to pupils with learning difficulties. A series of measures …
Les enquêtes client mystère : un dispositif de gestion au service des transformations organisationnelles ou comment réorganiser l'entreprise " au nom…
2012
The mystery shopping technique is a tool frequently used by organizations to hit a double target: (1) to seduce/to reassure/ to make the customer regular; (2) to diffuse the customer's voice in the organization and to justify the change. Although a great diffusion of the mystery shopping in private and public organizations, there are few studies on this tool. From the SNCF's example, the author considers the mystery shopping from the foucaldian point of view as a management mechanism in order to support organizational changes and analyses the effects of power induced by this tool.
On the Schwarzschild Effect in 3D Two‐Photon Laser Lithography
2019
International audience; The two‐photon Schwarzschild effect in photoresists suitable for 3D laser lithography is revisited. The study ranges over seven orders of magnitude in exposure time (from 1 µs to 10 s) and investigates a wide variety of different photoresist compositions. For short exposure times (“regime I”), the laser power at the polymerization threshold can scale with the inverse square root of the exposure time, as naively to be expected for two‐photon absorption. Substantial deviations occur, however, for low photoinitiator concentrations. For intermediate exposure times (“regime II”), a Schwarzschild‐type of behavior is found, as discussed previously. For very long exposure ti…
Structural and hydrogenation study on the ball milled TiH2–Mg–Ni
2015
International audience; With the aim of further understanding for TieNieMg alloys and their hydrogenation behavior, powders of TiH2, Mg and Ni with the molar ratio of 3:1:2 have been mechanically milled for 10 h, 20 h, 30 h, 40 h according to the stoichiometry (TiH2)1.5Mg0.5Ni. Microstructures of the milled sample were analyzed and their hydrogenation properties as negative electrodes for Ni-MH batteries were studied. Phase change with milling time revealed the fast formation of the Ti-Mg-H FCC phase. The alloying priority among Ti, Mg and Ni was demonstrated by comparing phase compositions in different milling time. Hydrogen capacities evaluated by both solidegas reaction and electrochemic…

Characterization of the Dynamic Interaction between Chassis and Powertrain of a Vehicle Using the Coupling Matrix
2013
International audience; This study is concerned with the vibration transmission between two subsystems of a vehicle: the chassis which is considered as an elastic structure and the powertrain which is considered as a rigid body. The study is carried out based on a new coupling matrix constructed from equations of dynamic behavior of each subsystems. This matrix depends only on the impedance matrices of the two subsystems and the mechanical characteristics of the linking mounts. Under some assumptions, a simplified expression to obtain the overall behaviour of the entire system is proposed. Despite its sensitivity to the degree of coupling between the subsystems, this method can be applied t…
On improving the accuracy of Visible Light Positioning system using deep autoencoder
2020
International audience; DC-biased optical Orthogonal Frequency DivisionMultiplexing (DCO-OFDM)-based visible light positioning (VLP)technology along with the Received Signal Strength(RSS) po-sitioning algorithm is widely used to achieve centimeter levelpositioning accuracy for incoming 5G era, especially indoorenvironment. However, the DCO-OFDM has the peak-to-averagepower ratio (PAPR) issue which imposes the nonlinear distortionand it will directly affect the positioning accuracy in the VLPsystem. The PAPR reduction scheme is urgently needed. There-fore, in this paper, the impact of PAPR reduction scheme onpositioning accuracy is investigated. The positioning accuracywith and without the s…
