Effect of sisal and hydrothermal ageing on the dielectric behaviour of polylactide/sisal biocomposites

[EN] The dielectric properties of virgin polylactide (PLA) and its reinforced composites with different weight amounts of sisal fibres were assessed at broad temperature (from - 130 degrees C to 130 degrees C) and frequency ranges (from 10(-2)-10(7) Hz), before and after being subjected to accelerated hydrothermal ageing. The synergetic effects of both the loading of sisal and hydrothermal ageing were analysed by means of dielectric relaxation spectra. The relaxation time functions were evaluated by the Havriliak-Negami model, substracting the ohmic contribution of conductivity. Mid-region parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) and gene expression of MDA-MB231 breast cancer cells.

Abstract We have previously shown that PTHrP(38–94) amide restrains growth and invasion in vitro, causes striking toxicity and accelerates death of some breast cancer cell lines, the most responsive being MDA-MB231, for which tumorigenesis was also attenuated in vivo. We have also demonstrated that mid-region PTHrP gains access to the nuclear compartment of these cells and displays DNA-binding properties in vitro by recognizing targets in both cellular chromatin and isolated oligonucleotides. Stochastic dynamics of nonlinear systems with a fractional power-law nonlinear term: The fractional calculus approach

Fractional power-law nonlinear drift arises in many applications of engineering interest, as in structures with nonlinear fluid viscous–elastic dampers. The probabilistic characterization of such structures under external Gaussian white noise excitation is still an open problem. This paper addresses the solution of such a nonlinear system providing the equation governing the evolution of the characteristic function, which involves the Riesz fractional operator. An efficient numerical procedure to handle the problem is also proposed.

Aperiodic Diffract: Study of diffraction gratings

In this work we introduce a virtual laboratory, APERIODIC DIFFRACT, developed in Matlab GUI (Graphical User Interface) as an informatics tool for teaching the diffractive properties of aperiodic gratings. This GUI allows the student to  generate aperiodic sequences by iterating and lets to study the spectra for different iterating orders.<br /><br />

Thermal equation of state of ruthenium characterized by resistively heated diamond anvil cell

AbstractThe high-pressure and high-temperature structural and chemical stability of ruthenium has been investigated via synchrotron X-ray diffraction using a resistively heated diamond anvil cell. In the present experiment, ruthenium remains stable in the hcp phase up to 150 GPa and 960 K. The thermal equation of state has been determined based upon the data collected following four different isotherms. A quasi-hydrostatic equation of state at ambient temperature has also been characterized up to 150 GPa. Apparent magic numbers in embedded Ti-O clusters

Stable clusters constituted of four ${\mathrm{TiO}}_{2}$ entities have been evidenced in nanometer-sized spinel oxides by a combination of diffraction and x-ray-absorption experiments. Contrary to free clusters, the size of the embedded clusters is strongly determined by the constraints imposed by the surrounding matrix so that the magic number of four is in fact specific to the matrix and only then apparent.

CADEM: calculate X-ray diffraction of epitaxial multilayers

This article presents a powerful yet simple program, based on the general one-dimensional kinematic X-ray diffraction (XRD) theory, which calculates the XRD patterns of tailor-made multilayers and thus enables quantitative comparison of measured and calculated XRD data. As the multilayers are constructed layer by layer, the final material stack can be entirely arbitrary.

Using FOCUS to solve zeolite structures from three-dimensional electron diffraction data

Pattern formation in clouds via Turing instabilities

Pattern formation in clouds is a well-known feature, which can be observed almost every day. However, the guiding processes for structure formation are mostly unknown, and also theoretical investigations of cloud patterns are quite rare. From many scientific disciplines the occurrence of patterns in non-equilibrium systems due to Turing instabilities is known, i.e. unstable modes grow and form spatial structures. In this study we investigate a generic cloud model for the possibility of Turing instabilities. For this purpose, the model is extended by diffusion terms. Performance of the Fully Digital FPGA-Based Front-End Electronics for the GALILEO Array

In this work we present the architecture and results of a fully digital Front End Electronics (FEE) read out system developed for the GALILEO array. The FEE system, developed in collaboration with the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) collaboration, is composed of three main blocks: preamplifiers, digitizers and preprocessing electronics. The slow control system contains a custom Linux driver, a dynamic library and a server implementing network services. The digital processing of the data from the GALILEO germanium detectors has demonstrated the capability to achieve an energy resolution of 1.53 per mil at an energy of 1.33 MeV.
