Effect of superplasticizers on the rheological properties of fly ash suspensions containing activators of the pozzolanic reaction

2000

Rheological studies have been carried out on the effect of a superplasticizer from the sulphonated melamine formaldehyde (SMF) group upon the properties of fly ash suspensions containing a small quantity of mineral admixtures such as cement, lime and gypsum. The superplasticizers' efficiency has appeared to depend greatly on the admixture used. The highest liquefaction degree was found in fly ash suspensions containing both cement and gypsum together and the next it was, when only cement was added. These suspensions exhibit features of a newtonian fluid of low plastic viscosity, when the water to solid ratio (w/s) is 0.3 and a superplasticizer has been used. However, fly ash suspensions wit…

A Central Nervous System Focused Treatment Program for People with Frozen Shoulder: A Feasibility Study

2022

Background: Frozen shoulder (FS) is a highly disabling pathology of poorly understood etiology, which is characterized by the presence of intense pain and progressive loss of range of motion (ROM). The aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility and clinical impact of a CNS-focused treatment program for people with FS. Methods: 10 subjects with primary FS received a 10-week CNS-focused intervention including sensory discrimination training and graded motor imagery techniques delivered as clinic sessions (60 min) and home therapy (30 min five times per week). Measurements were taken at baseline, after a 2-week “washout” period, after treatment, and at three months follow-up.…

Spectroscopic signatures of the carbon buckyonions C60@C180 and C60@C240: a dispersion-corrected DFT study

2013

We have investigated, using dispersion corrected DFT methods, the structure and the spectroscopic properties of carbon buckyonions C-60@C-180 and C-60@C-240. C-60, C-180 and C-240 showed a noticeable variation of their geometries in C-60@C-180 and C-60@C-240, upon encapsulation. Inclusion of the dispersion correction term in the calculations has a significant effect on the geometry. C-60@C-180 has a large positive interaction energy, while for C-60@C-240 a negative value is found indicating that only C-240 can easily accommodate C-60. In both cases dispersion interactions strongly contribute to the stabilization of the complexes. Vibrational frequencies, electronic transitions and NMR prope…

Dimeric resorcinarene salt capsules with very tight encapsulation of anions and guest molecules

2015

Crystallization of N-cyclohexyl ammonium resorcinarene triflate from methanol results in a dimeric capsule capable of trapping two triflate anions and two methanol molecules within a 341 A3 cavity while with 1,4-dioxane as a guest it forms a new larger dimeric capsule with volume of 679 A3 encapsulating four 1,4-dioxane and four water molecules, resulting in packing coefficients of 0.75 and 0.67, respectively.

2020

In this study, the potential for correlation between disintegration and dissolution performance of enteric-coated (EC) dosage forms was investigated. Different enteric hard shell capsule formulations containing caffeine as model drug were tested for disintegration (in a compendial disintegration tester) and for dissolution in both USP type I (basket) and type II (paddle) apparatuses using different media. Overall, good correlations were obtained. This was observed for both the basket and the paddle apparatus, indicating that the use of disintegration testing as a surrogate for dissolution testing (allowed by International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) for immediate release dosage forms …

Properties of spray-dried food flavours microencapsulated with two-layered membranes: Roles of interfacial interactions and water

2012

International audience; Engineering the interface of oil-in-water emulsion droplets with biopolymers that modify its permeability could provide a novel technique to improve flavour retention in dry powders. The objective of this study was to determine if volatile compounds were more retained in dry emulsions stabilized by pea protein isolate (PPI)/pectin complex than that stabilized by PPI alone. The retention of ethyl esters during spray-drying increased with decreasing volatility of the encapsulated compound and ranged from 28% to 40%. The addition of pectin to feed emulsions was quite effective in markedly improving the retention of the three studied flavour compounds. In our previous wo…

Comparison of several methods used for the determination of cephalosporins. Analysis of cephalexin in pharmaceutical samples

2002

The precision of UV absorbance of intact and acid degraded cephalosporins, ninhydrin, high performance liquid chromatography and iodometric methods used for analysis of cefoxitin, cefotaxime, cephazolin and cephalexin were compared. To obtain the calibration graphs the analytical signal used were: absorbance, first derivative absorbance, second derivative absorbance and H-point Standard Additions Method by using absorbance values at two selected wavelengths as analytical signal. These methods and calibration graphs were also used for the determination of cephalexin in pharmaceutical samples.
