Gold(I) compounds with lansoprazole-type ligands

A number of gold(I) complexes containing the proton pump inhibitor (PPI) lansoprazole and its reduced precursor 2-((3-methyl-4-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)pyridin-2-yl)methylthio)-1H-benzo[d]imidazole have been synthesized and their biological effects have been evaluated in human cancer and nontumorigenic cells in vitro. The lansoprazole-based compounds appear to act through a V-H+-ATPase-mediated mechanism.

Objective: To describe 2000-2005 time trends of prescription for NSAIDs, proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and hospital admissions for gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding. Methods: Time series analysis of gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding admission and drugs’ Defined Daily Dose per 1000 people per day (DDD/1000/day) in the Region of Valencia, Spain, from January 2000 to December 2005. Results: Dispensation of NSAIDs went from 42.7 DDD/1000 people/day in 2000 to 58.3 DDD/1000 people/day in 2005. During the same period, dispensation of PPIs went from 26.3 DDD/1000 people/day to 68.5 DDD/1000 people/day (both are statistically significant). Abstract This study evaluated treatment of patients affected with duodenal ulcer positive for Helicobacter pylori . We compared patients treated with ranitidine plus amoxicillin plus colloidal bismuth subcitrate (n = 20) with patients treated with omeprazole plus amoxicillin plus colloidal bismuth subcitrate (n = 20) with regard to: (1) healing of duodenal ulcer; (2) eradication of H pylori ; and (3) recurrence of ulcer. Baseline and follow-up for 24 months were performed through clinical, laboratory, and endoscopic tests. Blue lasing at room temperature in high quality factor GaN/AlInN microdisks with InGaN quantum wells

The authors report on the achievement of optically pumped III-V nitride blue microdisk lasers operating at room temperature. Controlled wet chemical etching of an AlInN interlayer lattice matched to GaN allows forming inverted cone pedestals. Whispering gallery modes are observed in the photoluminescence spectra of InGaN/GaN quantum wells embedded in the GaN microdisks. Typical quality factors of several thousands are found (Q>4000). Laser action at similar to 420 nm is achieved under pulsed excitation at room temperature for a peak power density of 400 kW/cm(2). The lasing emission linewidth is down to 0.033 nm.

Multi-line NIR-RGB emission in Nd:LiNbO3 RPE optical waveguides

Simultaneous generation of four spectral emission lines has been achieved in Nd-doped lithium niobate reverse proton exchange optical waveguide cavities. Using a pump at 800 nm, the four lines were found and they are due to lasing at 1.3735 combined with parametric conversion at 0.687, 0.574 and 0.4 mum.

Optomechanical oscillations in microbubble resonators: Enhancement, suppression and chaotic behaviour

We report on the experimental and theoretical analysis of parametrical optomechanical oscillations in hollow spherical PhoXonic whispering gallery mode resonators due to radiation pressure. The optically excited acoustic eigenmodes of the PhoXonic cavity oscillate regeneratively leading to parametric oscillation instabilities.

Collapse and revival of a Dicke-type coherent narrowing in potassium vapor confined in a nanometric-thin cell

A nanometer-thin-cell (in the direction of laser beam propagation) has been elaborated with the thickness of the atomic vapor column varying smoothly in the range of $L = \unit[50-1500]{nm}$. The cell allows one to study the behavior of the resonance absorption over the $D_1$ line of potassium atoms by varying the laser intensity and the cell thickness from $L = \lambda / 2$ to $L = 2 \lambda$ with the step $\lambda/2$ ($\lambda =\unit[770]{nm}$ is the resonant wavelength of the laser). Interestingly enough, the mechanisms responsible for the transition from single- to multi-longitudinal mode emission have not been completely clarified yet. Dynamic Stark effect action on optical pumping of atoms in an external magnetic field

Abstract The influence of the dynamic Stark effect on the optical pumping of atoms in a magnetic field, using the broad band approximation, is examined. It is demonstrated that the dynamic Stark effect can lead to a nonlinear effect on the light intensity conversion of alignment produced by linearly polarized light in the orientation of the angular momentum of atoms.
