Strategies, Technologies and Novel Components for the Architectural Integration of Photovoltaics

2015

Prevalence and morphometric analysis of the retromolar canal in a Spanish population sample: a helical CT scan study.

2021

BACKGROUND: The retromolar canal (RMC) is an anatomical variation of the mandibular canal (MC) whose identification and study should be considered given its implication in the surgical procedures of the retromolar area. The prevalence of the RMC widely varies according to previous studies and may be influenced by the followed study method. This work aimed to evaluate the prevalence of the RMC in a Spanish population sample. MATERIAL AND METHODS: For this purpose, 225 CT scan images (with a higher resolution than the cone beam CT used in other previous studies) from the Hospital Clinico Universitario de Valencia were analyzed. The Osirix MD radiological image analysis system was applied to a…

Apvērstās mācīšanās pieeja fizikas un matemātikas mācību procesa pilnveidei vidusskolā

2017

Maģistra darbs sastāv no 69 lappusēm, satur 6 attēlus, 9 tabulas, 28 literatūras avotus. Pievienoti 10 pielikumi. Skolēnu rezultāti centralizētajos eksāmenos un starptautiskajos pētījumos liecina, ka ir nepieciešamas izmaiņas mācību procesā. Pētījuma mērķis ir izpētīt apvērstās mācīšanās pieejas izmantošanas iespējas matemātikas un fizikas mācību procesa pilnveidei. Pētījuma dizains – darbības pētījums, datu ieguves veidi - fokusgrupas diskusija, intervija, skolēnu snieguma analīze, skolotāja dienasgrāmata. Apvērstās mācīšanās pieeja attīsta skolēnu patstāvīgās mācīšanās prasmes un pašvadību, samazina atšķirību starp skolēnu priekšzināšanām, nostiprinot skolēnu pārliecību par savām zināšanā…

Analysis of type-restricted and cross-reactive epitopes on virus-like particles of human papillomavirus type 33 and in infected tissues using monoclo…

1994

A panel of six monoclonal antibodies recognizing at least three different antigenic regions has been raised against the L1 major capsid protein of human papillo-mavirus type 33 (HPV-33), which is associated with cervical carcinoma. The antigenic sites defined by these antibodies have been mapped and classified as type-restricted or broadly cross-reactive using bacterially expressed L1 fusion proteins of a variety of HPV types. Conformational and linear epitopes have been distinguished using native and denatured virus-like particles. HPV infection of genital lesions has been analysed using both monoclonal antibodies and DNA amplification by PCR. The antibodies obtained should be useful to pr…

Prevalence of Genital Human Papilloma Virus Infection and Genotypes among Young Women in Sicily, South Italy

2008

Abstract Infection with oncogenic human papilloma virus (HPV) types is a necessary cause of cervical cancer. This study assessed the prevalence of HPV infection and genotypes among 1,006 randomly selected women, ages 18 to 24 years, living in Sicily (south Italy). The overall HPV rate was 24.1% (95% confidence interval, 21.5-26.9). The most frequent types were HPV-16 (4.5%), HPV-53 (2.7%), and HPV-84 (2.6%). The prevalence of vaccine types HPV-6, HPV-11, and HPV-18 was 1.4%, 0.1%, and 1.3%, respectively. Cytologic abnormalities were uncommon (3.1%) and associated with HPV detection (P < 0.0001). The only risk factor for HPV infection was the number of sexual partners (women with 2-3 …

Malignant paroxysmal positional vertigo

2011

Objective: An insidious percentage of paroxysmal positional vertigo appears to be intractable with canalith repositioning maneuver and also is not self-limiting. This type of positional vertigo is sustained by the action of intracranial tumors that mimics the clinical aspects of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.Aim of this study is to clarify the features of these forms of positional vertigo, which we indicate as malignant paroxysmal positional vertigo. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical records of all the patients who presented with vertigo spells and were managed at our tertiary care referral centre over a three years period. Two hundred and eleven patients with diagnos…

Understanding benign paroxysmal positional vertigo: the management of lateral canal involvement

2013

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) represents the most common cause of peripheral vertigo. The treatment of this apparently intractable disease is actually a physical treatment: performing manoeuvres on the patient to restore the normal condition of the inner ear. However, the following information will help readers who are unfamiliar with BPPV to improve their knowledge of the condition.

Atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance-favour reactive compared to atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance-favour dysplasi…

2005

Abstract Background and objectives: The current study compared the cervical cytological sub-category “atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance-favour reactive (AFR)”, recently recommended to be eliminated by the Bethesda system, to the sub-category “atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance-favour dysplasia (ASC-US)”, in terms of prevalence of coexistent squamous intraepithelial lesions of either low-grade (LSIL) or high-grade (HSIL) and rate of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Study design: One hundred women with AFR and 100 with ASC-US were consecutively included in the study. All patients underwent colposcopy, followed by biopsy when necessary, and were screen…
