Banking Risk Management – RCB Strategy

2013

Abstract Risk can have a significant impact on a credit institution, both as an influence that is felt in recorded direct losses, and an influence whose effects are felt on customers, staff, business partners and even the bank authority. Banking risks are those risks that banks face in implementing current operations and not only specific risks of traditional banking. Bank risk is the degree of loss suffered by a bank where the counterparty (the client) bankrupts without being able to pay its obligations to the bank. Given the experience, banks agree that the most important cause of losses was the excessive concentration of risk on a customer, industry or economic sector, a country. It is i…

An operator view on alliances in politics

2015

We introduce the concept of an {\em operator decision making technique} and apply it to a concrete political problem: should a given political party form a coalition or not? We focus on the situation of three political parties, and divide the electorate into four groups: partisan supporters of each party and a group of undecided voters. We consider party-party interactions of two forms: shared or differing alliance attitudes. Our main results consist of time-dependent decision functions for each of the three parties, and their asymptotic values, i.e., their final decisions on whether or not to form a coalition.

Agreement on the Choice of Non-applicable Law or Law not in Accordance with Article 22(1) of the Twin Regulations: what Consequences for the Couple’s…

2021

"I felt as if I was faced with a French Honecker" : The French Communist Party Confronted with a World that was Falling Apart (1985-1991)

2019

International audience; At the end of the 1980s, Mikhail Gorbachev met Georges Marchais, the general secretary of the PCF (Parti communiste français, i.e. French Communist Party), leader of one of the most important Western communist parties. After the meeting with Marchais, Andrei Gratchev, Gorbachev’s political advisor, remarked: “I felt as if I were faced with a French Honecker. He didn’t listen to what we told him. The new direction taken by Moscow didn’t seem to interest him.” Fundamentally, confronted with Gorbachev’s reforms, the PCF leadership expressed a lot of skepticism. Initially, they seemed interested but it became rapidly clear that they were, in fact, quite critical of the S…

The article presents the image of Poland and its politics, both foreign and internal, created by German press since early 2017 until August that same year. Newspapers issued in the Western and Easter part of the Federal Republic of Germany (mainly „Siiddeutsche Zeitung“ and „neues deutschland“) were analyzed. The goal of this article is to answer the following ąuestion: what image of Poland is created in press in Germany and are there differences in this regard between liberał and left-wing media? Ten issues presented in the abovementioned newspapers were analyzed including, among others, the evaluation of the governing party PiS and the opposing parties, judicial reform, Polish migration p…

How Multiple Party Identifications Shape the Voters' Political World

2013

Despite being part of the original concept by Campbell et al. (1954, 1960), multiple party identifications are rarely analyzed as most studies use single items that do not allow to identify multiple identifications. I am able to overcome these flaws by using current German survey data. My findings show that considerably shares of the sample hold multiple party identifications. These identifications often have a notable impact on evaluations, attitudes and behavior when compared to single party identification.

Garibaldi popolare. Politiche novecentesche dell’icona risorgimentale

2019

«Hero of the People». Political uses of Garibaldi’s image in the XXth century · Garibaldi epitomizes Italian Risorgimento also on an iconographical level. With particular reference to Sicily in the XXth century, the article aims at analyzing first some aspects of an often thaumaturgic Garibaldi’s figure within subaltern culture, chiefly through handcratfs, political tattoos, painted scenes pertaining to traditional puppet theatre as well as to ornate carts. All these contexts show a dense circulation between ‘high’ and ‘low’ culture. The elections for the regional parliament in 1947 are characterized by the massive use of Garibaldi in the frame of Communist propaganda; we try to shed light …

The globalisation divide in the public mind: belief systems on globalisation and their electoral consequences

2019

Many studies describe how globalisation—the global integration of the economic, political, and cultural domains of society—transforms party competition in Western Europe. At the citizen level, however, our knowledge about globalisation attitudes and their electoral consequences remains limited. Using data from a large-scale panel survey of the German public, we show that, first, citizens hold stable rather than fluid attitudes towards the concept of globalisation. Second, these attitudes are rather closely related to positions on specific economic, cultural, and political issues that social scientists understand as facets of globalisation but unrelated to positions on traditional redistribu…

Creating Franchised Businesses Through Franchisee Training Program — Empirical Evidence from a Follow-up Study

2007

The Finnish franchisee training program was a unique training program since it was government financed and provided to prospective franchisees by a third party. The organizing parties were the Finnish Employment and Economic Development Centres and a private consultation company specialized in franchising. The training program aimed to find people interested in becoming franchisees and to give them the essential skills and knowledge a franchisee needs.
