: The medical FASP genre as a teaching tool: authentic or doctored material?

2011

Abstract: This article falls within the scope of an action-based research project conducted at the Dijon School of Medicine. It focuses on the medical FASP genre as a potential pedagogical tool From December 2009 to April 2010, I asked 10 experienced health care professionals from various fields of medical practice, who had obtained an inter-university diploma in medical English, to fill in a questionnaire. The participants, who did not know the titles of the novels or the names of the novelists, were required to comment on six medically-based extracts taken from thrillers during continuing education classes. The aim of the questionnaire was to check the relevance of the specialized vocabul…

„Kimże jest człowiek, że [go]... wychowujesz?” (por. Ps 8,5). Antropologia pedagogiczna w katechezie

2017

Antropologia chrześcijańska szuka początków Biblii i tradycji Kościoła, aby sprzeciwiać się różnym błędnym wizjom ludzkości i odkryć wzajemne relacje z teologią, pedagogiką i katechezą.

Ideologiczne i instrumentalne wykorzystanie kultury formatuje antykulturę - uwodzącą, zwodzącą i zawo…

Pedagogical Leadership in Early Childhood Education during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Finland

2023

The daily life of early childhood education and care (ECE) in Finland changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020. The pandemic has had a significant impact on society at many levels, and it also has affected the work and workload of ECE leaders and the realisation of leadership. The aim of this research was to investigate ECE leadersʼ views on pedagogical leadership from the perspective of opportunities and challenges during exceptional times. The research uses the conceptualisation of broad-based pedagogical leadership as an analytical framework. The data consisted of the responses of ECE leaders (n = 492) to an electronic survey conducted in February 2021. There were sever…

Quality of Inclusive Educational System for Work with Students with Autism Different Needs in Italy

2015

The need for realization of inclusive education, which is the basis of a sustainable education, will require new challenges in the Education System. The system used in Italy can be used as an example. Italy passed avant-garde laws concerning the integration and inclusion of special needs students into the general school system already more than thirty years ago, in the 1970s. However, even after all this time and experience, there are still unresolved problems, which testifies to the complexities of the matter. This research offers an insight into the quality of the existing Italian inclusive education system specifically in relation to students with autism. Thereby it hopes to provide educ…

How critical thinking should be at the heart of digital interactions?

2018

In this paper, we explore how to teach critical thinking in the digital age, in order to promote the autonomy of practitioners. An interaction theory is proposed to identify the constraints that structure digital creativity. This model helps to design a critical pedagogy, linking without opposing a procedural approach to a reflective approach. The article presents an implementation of this model in a writing course on a social network. The study of students' activity logs shows the presence of forms of objectivity and reflexivity, reflecting the development of critical thinking. This approach offers a way to develop critical thinking not from the outside, in an argumentation or media analys…

Automated scoring of teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge : a comparison between human and machine scoring

2020

To validly assess teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge (PCK), performance-based tasks with open-response formats are required. Automated scoring is considered an appropriate approach to reduce the resource-intensity of human scoring and to achieve more consistent scoring results than human raters. The focus is on the comparability of human and automated scoring of PCK for economics teachers. The answers of (prospective) teachers (N = 852) to six open-response tasks from a standardized and validated test were scored by two trained human raters and the engine “Educational SCoRIng Toolkit” (ESCRITO). The average agreement between human and computer ratings, κw = 0.66, suggests a convergent …
