Some structurally disordered models for poly(tetrafluoroethylene) were elaborated and the corresponding calculated X-ray diffraction patterns compared with experimental patterns. This and differential scanning calorimetry results suggest some differences between the virgin powder and a sintered polycrystalline plate of poly(tetrafluoroethylene). These differences may be related to the crystal phase transitions that occur in a range of temperatures close to room temperature.

Polymorphism in Strontium Tungstate SrWO 4 under Quasi-Hydrostatic Compression

2016

The structural and vibrational properties of SrWO4 have been studied experimentally up to 27 and 46 GPa, respectively, by angle-dispersive synchrotron X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy measurements as well as using ab initio calculations. The existence of four polymorphs upon quasi-hydrostatic compression is reported. The three phase transitions were found at 11.5, 19.0, and 39.5 GPa. The ambient-pressure SrWO4 tetragonal scheelite-type structure (S.G. I41/a) undergoes a transition to a monoclinic fergusonite-type structure (S.G. I2/a) at 11.5 GPa with a 1.5% volume decrease. Subsequently, at 19.0 GPa, another structural transformation takes place. Our calculations indicate two possi…

Genetic and aromatic diversity of the Burgundy truffle

2013

Truffles are ectomycorrhizal Ascomycota fungi belonging to the Tuberaceae family and more specifically to the Tuber genus. More than thirty Tuber species are currently described in Europe. In this thesis, we specifically focused on the Tuber aestivum-uncinatum model. This truffle is commonly called "Burgundy Truffle" and has a gastronomic and cultural interest. The first part of this thesis focused on the taxonomic status of the Burgundy truffle (Tuber uncinatum). For this, we used a multi-marker approach combining several genetic markers commonly used at the interspecific scale. Our analyses showed that the two taxa, Tuber aestivum (summer truffle) and Tuber uncinatum are conspecific. In the…

Sequencing, De Novo Assembly and Annotation of the Colorado Potato Beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata, Transcriptome

2012

Background. The Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) is a major pest and a serious threat to potato cultivation throughout the northern hemisphere. Despite its high importance for invasion biology, phenology and pest management, little is known about L. decemlineata from a genomic perspective. We subjected European L. decemlineata adult and larval transcriptome samples to 454-FLX massively-parallel DNA sequencing to characterize a basal set of genes from this species. We created a combined assembly of the adult and larval datasets including the publicly available midgut larval Roche 454 reads and provided basic annotation. We were particularly interested in diapause-specific g…

Association between Opioid Receptor mu 1 (OPRM1) Gene Polymorphisms and Tobacco and Alcohol Consumption in a Spanish Population.

2015

Evidence gained from animals and humans suggests that the encephalic opioid system might be involved in the development of drug addiction through its role in reward. Our aim is to assess the influence of genetic variations in the opioid receptor mu 1 on alcohol and tobacco consumption in a Spanish population. 763 unrelated individuals (465 women, 298 men) aged 18-85 years were recruited between October 2011 and April 2012. Participants were requested to answer a 35-item questionnaire on tobacco and alcohol consumption, as well as to complete the AUDIT and Fagerström tests. Individuals were genotyped for three polymorphisms in the opioid receptor mu 1 (OPRM1) gene, using a TaqMan® protocol. …

Pharmacogenomics in colorectal carcinomas: Future perspectives in personalized therapy

2005

The recent introduction of new drugs such as capecitabine, irinotecan, and oxaliplatinum has greatly improved the clinical outcome of patients with advanced/metastatic colorectal cancer. Nevertheless, some patients may suffer from the adverse drug reactions which will probably be the main cause of chemotherapy failure. The goal of pharmacogenomics is to find correlations between therapeutic responses to drugs and the genetic profiles of patients; the different responses to a particular drug are due, in fact, not only to the specific clinico-pathological features of the patient or to environmental factors, but also to the ethnic origins and the particular individual's genetic profile. Genes …

Rash and multiorgan dysfunction following lamotrigine: could genetic be involved?

2015

We report the case of a 38-year-old woman treated with lamotrigine who experienced multi-organ dysfunction. The patient received the drug at the dose of 100 mg per day. One week later, the treatment was suspended because of an extensive body rash. Twenty-four hours later, the patient appeared drowsy and stuporous and was hospitalized. On the fifth day, the patient was admitted with a clinical picture of acute multi-organ failure in our Institute, where, she, despite the support of vital functions with vasoactive drugs, continuous hemofiltration and ventilation with oxygen, died. Serum lamotrigine concentration was measured 110 h after its last dose and the drug resulted to be still present …

Colorectal cancer: pharmacogenetics support for the correct drug prescription

2019

Pharmacogenetics (PGx) in clinical practice is a tool that the clinician can use to guide, in a personalized way, the most suitable treatment that will be administered to the patient. The objective of this review is to summarize in a practical and accessible rational way, the advances that currently exist for the application of PGx in colorectal cancer chemotherapy management through the study of the patients’ germline polymorphisms. To define the polymorphisms that can be applied, we rely on three fundamental cornerstones: the recommendations of drug regulatory agencies; the implementation guidelines prepared by expert consortia in PGx and information from clinical annotations (the drug/p…

FOKI AND BSMI VITAMIN D RECEPTOR GENE POLYMORPHISMS, ARE THEY ASSOCIATED WITH INTIMA MEDIA THICKNESS IN ESSENTIAL HYPERTENSIVE INDIVIDUALS

2015

Objective: Analyzing 25hydroxyvitaminD (25[OH]D) serum levels and common carotid intimamedia thickness (IMT) relationship, and evaluating the association of FokI and BsmI vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphisms with IMT in essential hypertensive patients were our study aims. Design and method: We enrolled seventyone essential hypertensive patients, 18–75 years old. Patients underwent clinical blood pressure (BP) measurement, 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, routine blood test, 25[OH]D assay and common carotid IMT evaluation. FokI and BsmIVDRpolymorphisms were analyzed by polymerase chain reactionrestriction fragment length polymorphism (PCRRFLP).

Genome-wide association study identifies five susceptibility loci for follicular lymphoma outside the HLA region.

2014

Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) of follicular lymphoma (FL) have previously identified human leukocyte antigen (HLA) gene variants. To identify additional FL susceptibility loci, we conducted a large-scale two-stage GWAS in 4,523 case subjects and 13,344 control subjects of European ancestry. Five non-HLA loci were associated with FL risk: 11q23.3 (rs4938573, p = 5.79 × 10 -20) near CXCR5; 11q24.3 (rs4937362, p = 6.76 × 10 -11) near ETS1; 3q28 (rs6444305, p = 1.10 × 10 -10) in LPP; 18q21.33 (rs17749561, p = 8.28 × 10 -10) near BCL2; and 8q24.21 (rs13254990, p = 1.06 × 10 -8) near PVT1. In an analysis of the HLA region, we identified four linked HLA-DRß1 multiallelic amino acids at p…
