Role of adipose tissue cannabinoid 1 receptor (CB1R) on lipolysis and consequences on lipid and carbohydrate metabolism in mice
2017
Role of adipose tissue cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1R) on lipolysis and consequences on lipid and carbohydrate metabolism in miceObesity is accompanied with lipolysis deregulation responsible for excessive Free Fatty Acid (FFA) release, which are key actors in the implementation of peripheral insulin resistance. In parallel, it is now well established that obesity is associated with EndoCannabinoid System (ECS) activity dysfunction in several metabolic tissues. If it is well described that overactivation of this system in the Adipose Tissue (AT) is favourable to its expansion, the consequences on lipolysis remain to be elucidated. The main objective of this thesis work was to precise the role …
Immune Cell Toll-like Receptor 4 Mediates the Development of Obesity- and Endotoxemia-Associated Adipose Tissue Fibrosis
2014
International audience; Adipose tissue fibrosis development blocks adipocyte hypertrophy and favors ectopic lipid accumulation. Here, we show that adipose tissue fibrosis is associated with obesity and insulin resistance in humans and mice. Kinetic studies in C3H mice fed a high-fat diet show activation of macrophages and progression of fibrosis along with adipocyte metabolic dysfunction and death. Adipose tissue fibrosis is attenuated by macrophage depletion. Impairment of Toll-like receptor 4 signaling protects mice from obesity-induced fibrosis. The presence of a functional Toll-like receptor 4 on adipose tissue hematopoietic cells is necessary for the initiation of adipose tissue fibros…
Extracellular vesicles do not mediate the anti-inflammatory actions of mouse-derived adipose tissue mesenchymal stem cells secretome
2021
Este artículo se encuentra disponible en la siguiente URL: https://www.mdpi.com/1422-0067/22/3/1375 Este artículo pertenece al número especial "The Role of Mesenchymal Stem Cells on Inflammatory and Fibrotic Diseases". Adipose tissue represents an abundant source of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) for therapeutic purposes. Previous studies have demonstrated the anti-inflammatory potential of adipose tissue-derived MSC (ASC). Extracellular vesicles (EV) present in the conditioned medium (CM) have been shown to mediate the cytoprotective effects of human ASC secretome. Nevertheless, the role of EV in the anti-inflammatory effects of mouse-derived ASC is not known. The current study has investiga…
Mice Expressing Only Covalent Dimeric Heparin Binding-deficient Lipoprotein Lipase
2004
Lipoprotein lipase (LpL) hydrolyzes triglycerides of circulating lipoproteins while bound as homodimers to endothelial cell surface heparan sulfate proteoglycans. This primarily occurs in the capillary beds of muscle and adipose tissue. By creating a mouse line that expresses covalent dimers of heparin-binding deficient LpL (hLpLHBM-Dimer) in muscle, we confirmed in vivo that linking two LpL monomers in a head to tail configuration creates a functional LpL. The hLpLHBM-Dimer transgene produced abundant activity and protein in muscle, and the LpL was the expected size of a dimer (approximately 110 kDa). Unlike the heparin-binding mutant monomer, hLpLHBM-Dimer had the same stability as nonmut…
THE ROLE OF THE LOQUAT IN MAINTAINING ENTOMOLOGICAL DIVERSITY IN THE CONCA D'ORO ORCHARDS OF SICILY
2015
The loquat [Eriobotryo japonica (Thumb.) Lindl.] is an allochthonous species long cultivated in Sicily. In some parts of Sicily such as the Siracusa province, the loquat is cultivated in mono-specific orchards. In other sites, like Conca d'Oro and other places near the town of Palermo, loquat is intercropped with other tree species such as citrus, apricot, peach, mulberry, walnut, Mediterranean hackberry. The loquat plays an important role in order to increase biodiversity within these orchards. The old or dead loquat trees host a variety of xylophagous insects and more in particular Coleoptera: Cerambycidae beetles Dynastidae, and Cetoniidae. Longhorn beetles, rhinoceros beetles and flower…
Buccal fat pad removal to improve facial aesthetics: an established technique?
2018
Background Buccal fat pad (BFP) is a singular structure between the facial muscles. Its removal may enhance the zygomatic prominences resulting in an inverted triangle of beauty. Objective: The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review of literature about BFP removal for facial aesthetic improvement. In order to answer the following research question: What are the indications, complication types and rates, surgical techniques and outcomes of the technique? Material and Methods The initial search in Pubmed, Scopus, and Cochrane databases recognized 220 articles. The final review included eight of them. None of the included studies were clinical trials. Results BPF removal was perf…
The neural feedback loop between the brain and adipose tissues
2009
Communication également publiée dans le livre "Adipose tissue development: from animal models to clinical conditions" (ISBN 978-3-8055-9450-9) de C. Levy-Marchal et L. Pénicaud (eds); There are more and more data supporting the importance of nervous regulation of both white and brown adipose tissue mass. This short paper will review the different physiological parameters which are regulated such as metabolism (lipolysis and thermogeneis), secretory activity (leptin and other adipokines) but also to plasticity of adipose tissues (proliferation differentiation and apoptosis). The sensory innervation of white adipose issue and its putative role will be also described. Altogether these results …
Semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase/vascular adhesion protein-1 deficiency reduces leukocyte infiltration into adipose tissue and favors fat deposi…
2009
1525-2191 (Electronic) Journal Article; Obesity is associated with low-grade inflammation and leukocyte infiltration in white adipose tissue (WAT) and is linked to diabetic complications. Semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase, also known as vascular adhesion protein-1 (SSAO/VAP-1), is a membrane protein that is highly expressed in adipocytes and is also present on the endothelial cell surface where it is involved in leukocyte extravasation. We studied fat deposition and leukocyte infiltration in WAT of mice with a null mutation in the amine oxidase copper-containing-3 (AOC3) gene encoding SSAO/VAP-1. Both epididymal and inguinal WATs were larger in 6-month-old AOC3-KO males than in age-matc…
