Techniques To Control Polymersome Size

2015

Polymersomes as synthetic analogues of liposomes appear frequently in relevant literature as promising candidates for a wide range of different applications including drug delivery, theranostic multitools, and nanoreactors. In particular, as nanotransporters for nanomedical applications in vivo, requirements concerning the reproducible manufacturing and reliable size control are extremely high. This Perspective highlights the importance of size control especially in the context of nanomedicine and gives an overview of the theoretical background of amphiphilic self-assembly leading to different preparation methods, where their feasibility of controlling polymersomes’ size is discussed.

Monolayers and Langmuir-Blodgett Multilayers of Discotic Liquid Crystals?

2008

The field of monolayer and multilayer films of discotic LCs is at its very beginning. The scope and limitations of this preparation method have not yet been explored, and little is known about the structures obtainable. However, the potential access to extraordinary, ordered thin films is fascinating, and will stimulate research in the future.

Insertion of Magnetic Bimetallic Oxalate Complexes into Layered Double Hydroxides

2006

Bimetallic oxalate complexes have been successfully inserted into layered double hydroxides as ferromagnetic oxalate-bridged oligomers. Different preparation methods afford different sizes and compositions for the oligomers. In all cases, no magnetic ordering has been observed above 2 K.

Graphene based metal and metal oxide nanocomposites: synthesis, properties and their applications

2015

Graphene, an atomically thin two-dimensional carbonaceous material, has attracted tremendous attention in the scientific community, due to its exceptional electronic, electrical, and mechanical properties. Indeed, with the recent explosion of methods for a large-scale synthesis of graphene, the number of publications related to graphene and other graphene based materials has increased exponentially. Particularly the development of easy preparation methods for graphene like materials, such as highly reduced graphene oxide (HRG) via reduction of graphite oxide (GO), offers a wide range of possibilities for the preparation of graphene based inorganic nanocomposites by the incorporation of vari…

Preparation of Graphene Nanoribbons (GNRs) as an Electronic Component with the Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNTs)

2015

Abstract Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have a well-defined nanostructure to exhibit high electrical conductivity and chemical stability, and have been used as an advanced material to make electrodes of super-capacitor. Graphene nanoribbons (GNRs), as manufactured by unzipping the CNTs, have more flexible adjustable electrical properties than CNTs, and are regarded an even more promising material for super-capacitor electrodes. This paper presented a series of attempts to prepare GNRs by chemically treating multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs); this is, an Oxidation-Reduction method was tried to make GNRs by unzipping MWCNTs longitudinally. Efforts were made in various trials to find conditions …

Sample pretreatment techniques for oligopeptide analysis from natural sources

2008

The analysis of oligopeptides in samples of food, tissues, and body fluids attracts considerable attention. The complexity of such samples requires efficient sample preparation (i.e., concentration and cleanup) procedures to remove interfering endogenous compounds and inorganic or organic salts. The methods of sample pretreatment that enable effective and selective isolation and/or preconcentration of oligopeptides from complex sample matrices have been reviewed. In each case, examples of application were presented and discussed, taking into account selectivity, enrichment, method automation, cleanup, and environmental aspects of the developed methods.

Preparation methods to optimize the performance of sensor discs for fast chemiluminescence ozone analyzers.

2013

Fast ozone (O(3)) measurements (1-50 Hz) in the atmosphere are required for airborne studies and for the measurement of ground-based O(3) fluxes by the eddy covariance technique. Fast response analyzers, based on heterogeneous chemiluminescence, need dye coated sensor discs on which the chemiluminescence is generated. In this study, we present three new preparation methods for those sensor discs. Currently available sensor discs exhibit a fast temporal decay of sensitivity, resulting in short duty times which is troublesome for many field applications. To produce sensor discs that provide more stable signals over time, three dyes and nine energy transfer reagents were tested (as well as dif…

Sensitivity of whole wood stable carbon and oxygen isotope values to milling procedures

2014

RATIONALE Milling of wood samples is a widely applied preparation method for pooling tree-rings from different trees or periods of several years for determination of δ13C and δ18O values. In this study, whole wood samples were milled using different procedures in order to evaluate potential effects of this preparation method on δ13C and δ18O values. METHODS Subsamples of a 5 cm3 wood piece of a single tree-ring from a lowland white fir were used. The samples were milled with different setups: (i) two and three stainless-steel balls, (ii) 3, 5 and 8 min milling time, and (iii) discontinuous and continuous milling. The δ13C values were measured using an elemental analyser connected to an IsoP…
