The economic metaphor of Italian politics for dynamic coalition regeneration in the robocup competition of Aibo robots
2005
The variation version of the economic metaphor of Italian politics, an architecture that loosely takes inspiration from the political organizations of democratic governments, following the example of Italian government, and which provides a solution for the coordination of a spare colony of robots, is competent to allow the coordination of the behaviors of a team of four robots in order to play soccer in the Robocup competition. The development of an evolution of economic metaphor of Italian politics is now outlined. This new approach proposes a mechanism to make a new coalition caused by the failure of the government strategy and by a general inefficiency of the whole colony during the rea…
Balance with logic-measuring the performance and sustainable development efforts of an NPO in rural Ethiopia.
2021
The analysis of performance of Not-for-profit organisations (NPOs) is difficult because there are several objectives and perspectives to NPO performance and accountability, especially if considered sustainably and in long term. This suggests that performance analysis and measurement of NPOs might also involve multiple perspectives, such as in Balanced Scorecard (BSC) or in the Logical Framework (LF) models. This article is a case study of analysing the sustainable development and performance of an NPO in rural Ethiopia. We propose the Logic Balanced Scorecard (LBSC) model that combines elements of BSC and LF. This proposal was preliminarily used and tested in a five-year interventionist acc…
Security framework for dynamic service-oriented IT systems
2018
The paper proposes a framework for dynamic service-oriented IT systems security. We review the context of service-oriented architecture (SOA), which constitutes a paradigm of dynamic system configuration including security constraints at the system module development stage, supporting with the domain-driven resources, carrying out routine SOA maintenance and implementing XML-compatible parsing technologies in order to improve the system performance. Likewise, we discuss the fundamental differences between security management systems with traditional centralized and monolithic architecture and service-oriented IT systems from the perspective of security-related issues. Web services security …
A model of quality management self‐assessment: an exploratory research
2005
PurposeContinuous improvement is a primary principle in total quality management. It is applied to all aspects of the organisation including products, processes, and even the management of the firm. In this context, quality management self‐assessment is a useful tool for fostering the continuous improvement of the whole company, comparing its activities and results with an excellence model. However, little is known about the variables and relationships underlying self‐assessment application. This paper tries to shed light on this topic.Design/methodology/approachThe methodology is an exploratory case study. Three Spanish organisations with a broad experience in self‐assessment application a…
TQM self-assessment evolves and promotes strategic learning at Ericsson España S.A.
2003
Self-assessment is a comprehensive, systematic, and regular review of an organization's activities and results in reference to a business excellence model. This process allows the organization to clearly discern its strengths and deficiencies, launch improvement plans, and monitor their progress. When organizations repeatedly carry out this cycle of evaluation and action taking, they can achieve genuine and sustained improvement. Many firms have found self-assessment to be an important tool for fostering continuous improvement, one of the fundamental principles of total quality management (TQM). Indeed, self-assessment has been employed by the winners of the most important quality awards—th…

A decision support system to assure high-performance maintenance service
2020
PurposeThis study aims to propose a decision support system (DSS) for maintenance management of a service system, namely, a street cleaning service vehicle. Referring to the information flow management, the blockchain technology is integrated in the proposed DSS to assure data transparency and security.Design/methodology/approachThe DSS is designed to efficiently handle the data acquired by the network of sensors installed on selected system components and to support the maintenance management. The DSS supports the decision makers to select a subset of indicators (KPIs) by means of the DEcision-MAaking Trial and Evaluation Laboratory method and to monitor the efficiency of performed prevent…
Digital Business Value Creation with Robotic Process Automation (RPA) in Northern and Central Europe
2018
In the rapidly changing global economy, robotics process automation (rpa) became one of the most important and fastest growing concepts. Digital value co-creation within service businesses and networks, sets value for end customer experience within more efficient operations, focusing on core business development with the use of modern technology. This pilot study approaches the topic from the practical perspective, presenting the results of empirical work conducted with experts working at the Intelligent Automation unit at one of the leading Nordic providers of financial and accounting services. It is examining the RPA transformation from the perspective of its impact on resourcing, operati…
A SOA-based health service platform in smart home environment
2011
The increasing demand for a good healthcare quality has brought Information and Communication Technology to an important role in healthcare domain. The trend in decreasing number of formal healthcare workers gives further pressure to move non-urgent treatments to the patients' homes. However, delivering healthcare services to meet the changing needs of inhabitants in a smart home requires an open and flexible service creation and integration environment so that the modification of existing services as well as creation of new services can be achieved in a timely manner. This paper presents a vision of a logical integration platform in a smart home environment, integrating various devices and…
