Transcriptional Upregulation of Genes Related to Virulence Activation in Entamoeba histolytica

Background To understand the molecular basis of virulence variability in Entamoeba histolytica , this study presents results about differential gene expression induced by E. histolytica trophozoites in liver of hamsters in order to produce experimental amebic liver abscess (ALA) and consequently reactivate its virulence. Methods Amebic cultures were studied before (BALA) and after (AALA) inoculation in hamster peritoneal cavity. A sequence motif enriched in regions bound by the Drosophila dosage compensation complex

Abstract Background In Drosophila melanogaster, dosage compensation is mediated by the action of the dosage compensation complex (DCC). How the DCC recognizes the fly X chromosome is still poorly understood. Characteristic sequence signatures at all DCC binding sites have not hitherto been found. Results In this study, we compare the known binding sites of the DCC with oligonucleotide profiles that measure the specificity of the sequences of the D. melanogaster X chromosome. Abstract Potential immunostimulatory effects of orally administered β-glucan were investigated in combination with immersion vaccination against enteric redmouth disease caused by Yersinia ruckeri in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). A linear, unbranched and pure (purity ≥98%) β-1,3-glucan (syn. paramylon) from the alga Euglena gracilis was applied at an inclusion level of 1% β-glucan in feed administered at a rate of 1% biomass day−1 for 84 consecutive days. Semantic User Profiling for Digital Advertising

International audience; With the emergence of real-time distribution of online advertising space (“real-time bidding”), user profiling from web navigation traces becomes crucial. Indeed, it allows online advertisers to target customers without interfering with their activities. Current techniques apply traditional methods as statistics and machine learning, but suffer from their limitations. As an answer, the proposed approach aims to develop and evaluate a semantic-based user profiling system for digital advertising.

Automatic User Profile Mapping To Marketing Segments In A Big Data Context

International audience; Within the discussion about the analysis methods for Big Data contexts, semantic technologies often get discarded for reasons of efficiency. While machine learning and statistics are known to have shortcomings when handling natural language, their advantages in terms of performance outweigh potential concerns. We argue that even when handling vast amounts of data, the usage of semantic technologies can be profitable and demonstrate this by developing an ontology-based system for automatically mapping user profiles to pre-defined marketing segments.

Sulphur is an essential macronutrient for plant growth, development and response to various abiotic and biotic stresses due to its key role in the biosynthesis of many S-containing compounds. Sulphate represents a very small portion of soil S pull and it is the only form that plant roots can uptake and mobilize through H(+)-dependent co-transport processes implying sulphate transporters. Dark chocolates organoleptic differences: a PTR-ToF-MS success story

International audience; Aroma of dark chocolate depends on process and cocoa origin and variety. Repeated sensory analyses of standardized chocolates produced from various cocoa beans batches using a standard fabrication process allowed classifying them into four sensory categories. These categories were confirmed in a PTR-ToF-MS analysis of the volatilome of 206 chocolate samples through supervised multivariate data analyses (PLS-DA).
