Relationship between Burnout and Body Mass Index in Senior and Middle Managers from the Mexican Manufacturing Industry
2018
This research relates Burnout Syndrome (BS) with the Body Mass Index (BMI) among middle and senior managers of the Mexican manufacturing industry. Even though BS incidence is high in the Mexican industrial population, few systematic studies have explored BS and its relationship with other health problems, such as obesity. The goal of this research is to determine the relationship between BS and the BMI in employees with normal weight, overweight, and obesity. We present three structural equation models to relate BS and the BMI. The BMI ranges were determined according to the parameters (normal weight, overweight, and obesity) proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO). The sample inclu…
Abdominal pain and internal hernias after Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass: are we dealing with the tip of an iceberg?
2019
Background: Abdominal pain is the most frequent cause of hospital admission after Roux-en-y gastric bypass (RYGB). Among numerous possible underlying causes, internal hernias represent one of the most peculiar and insidious conditions, setting challenging diagnostic and therapeutic problems for the surgeon. The aim of this study is to analyze aspecific abdominal pain incidence and characteristics after RYGB, discriminating peculiar aspects suggestive of internal hernias. Methods: 13 patients submitted to internal hernia repair after laparoscopic antecolic RYGB and a group of 49 controls (non-complicated RYGB) have been assessed using a specific questionnaire. Overall aspecific abdominal pai…

Feasibility and psychometric properties of the Finnish version of the measure of processes of care for adults
2018
To assess the psychometric properties and feasibility of the Finnish translation of the measure of processes of care for adults (MPOC-A) when used in an inpatient rehabilitation setting.A feasibility study.Inpatient rehabilitation settings.A total of 858 people with severe neurological disabilities, musculoskeletal problems, and mental disorders were recruited to the study. The MPOC-A questionnaire is a self-administered questionnaire consisting of 34 items in five-factorial domains. The construct validity of the translated questionnaire was evaluated using confirmatory factor analysis. To compare the fit of the model to the fit of the independent null-model Comparative Fit Index was used. I…
Social, Occupational, and Cultural Adaptation During a 12-Month Wintering in Antarctica.
2016
Background and methods Life in isolated and confined environments (ICEs) is subject to important constraints which can generate psychosociologically impaired outcomes. This study investigated psychological, social, occupational, and cultural variables which are among the most important determinants in adaptation to a one-year wintering in Antarctica for 13 international subjects. Results Our findings confirm and give further insight into the role of social (Cohesiveness, Social Support) and occupational (Implementation/Preparedness, Counterproductive Activity, Decision Latitude, and Psychological Job Demands) dimensions of adaptation to ICEs. Relation of the real relationship and the working alliance to the outcome of brief psychotherapy.
2011
In this study, the (a) association of the client- and therapist-rated strength of the real relationship to the outcome of brief psychotherapy, and (b) extent to which the real relationship predicted outcome above and beyond the predictive power of the working alliance were examined. A total of 50 clients at the counseling center of a university in Italy received brief therapy and completed measures before treatment, after the third session, and at the end of treatment. From the clients' perspective, both the Genuineness element of the real relationship and the Bond scale of the working alliance were found to relate significantly to treatment outcome. When we examined the real relationship a…
