Illegal Chinese gold mining in Amansie West, Ghana - an assessement of its impact and implications
2014
Master thesis in development management - University of Agder 2014 The thesis’ objective is to assess the impact of Chinese illegal miners in the Amansie West District in Ghana. The illegal mining sector is seen as having several negative effects, environmentally as well as socially and economically. The influx of some 20-50 000 Chinese miners into Ghana is found to increase these impacts. The Chinese illegal miners operate largely on farmland, which is bought from locals for the sum equivalent of approximately 6.5 years of farming income. This leads to a loss of long-term income for the farmer as well as the degradation of large land areas, which in the case of Amansie West is here estimat…
Akademisk fagskriving på ingeniørstudiet
2020

In the Norwegian engineering education, there has been an increasing focus on writinginstruction in the last decade. Although writing in the disciplines seems to be the overall goal, the disciplines themselves are not prepared for nor equipped to provide the writing instructionthe students need.
This article attempts to measure the effect of a writing course that was given in the firstsemester of the engineering study at the University of Agder in 2018. The writing course was acollaboration between the disciplines of engineering, the university library and a writinginstructor with permanent affiliation to the Department of Engineering. The aim of thecollaboration was to gather…

2014
The purpose of this work is show the characteristics of different environmental economic assessment methodologies, and exposes a case study where possible alternatives addressed to reduce the contamination of a bay with multicriteria approach are evaluated. The results obtained show the effectiveness of multicriteria analysis to evaluate the alternatives for solution of contamination problem in a bay. Economic evaluation of the contamination effects integrated to the environmental, social and economic dimensions through multicriteria techniques allows an alternative planning to solve the environmental problem studied, providing the right decision.
Quantifying trade-offs between ecological gains, economic costs, and landowners' preferences in boreal mire protection.
2021
Private land often encompasses biodiversity features of high conservation value, but its protection is not straightforward. Commonly, landowners’ perspectives are rightfully allowed to influence conservation actions. This unlikely comes without consequences on biodiversity or other aspects such as economic considerations, but these consequences are rarely quantitatively considered in decision-making. In the context of boreal mire protection in Finland, we report how acknowledging landowners’ resistance to protection changes the combination of mires selected to conservation compared to ignoring landowners’ opinions. Using spatial prioritization, we quantify trade-offs arising between the amo…

The lagged influence of organizations' human resources practices on employees' career sustainability: The moderating role of age
2020
Abstract Research has progressed in theoretically and conceptually defining career sustainability and its indicators. However, research is needed to understand the relationship between those indicators and the way individual and organizational factors contribute to it over time. We add to this literature by considering performance and wellbeing as indicators of sustainable careers. Specifically, we considered patterns in the relationship between performance and wellbeing, used as proxies for a sustainable career, and the effects of different human resource (HR) practices and age on career sustainability. Data came from two waves of 653 employees and their supervisors in 26 organizations in …
