Centri storici manomessi: “antichi” come nuovi!
2012
The chapter presents the results of urban planning in Italy since 1950 and introduces the theories developed by Muratori and Caniggia for the restoration of historical centers. The paper critically shows some examples of typological restoration and introduces the debate that has developed around the outcomes of interventions.
Promuovere negli uomini la scelta di prepararsi all’esercizio della professione di maestro di scuola primaria
2022
The sixth principle of the Charte de la Ligue Internationale de l’Education Nouvelle of 1921 emphasizes the concept of coeducation. The definition of this concept provides interesting insights to launch a proactive debate on the need to increase the male presence in primary school teaching staff. First of all, some results of empir- ical research that support the request to increase the number of male teachers in the primary school are displayed. Secondly, the most significant measures adopted by some States to promote the figure of the male primary school teacher are described. Finally, a few proposals are made on what could be done in Italy.
High-Frequency Experimental Characterization and Modeling of Six Pack IGBTs Power Modules
2016
In this paper, a method to characterize the high-frequency (HF) behavior of six pack insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) power module (PM) is presented. The method is based on experimental measurements at the external pins of the device and it allows one to extract internal inductive and capacitive parasitic coupling without the knowledge of structural and physical parameters of the PM. The HF model of a six pack IGBTs PM has been developed, in the frequency range of 150 kHz-30 MHz, and it has been implemented in MATLAB environment. The method has been experimentally validated by comparing the frequency behavior of the PM with the simulated response. Moreover, the HF conducted distur…
Asilo/esilio. Donne migranti e richiedenti asilo in Sicilia
2010
Cytoskeletal stabilization of inhibitory interactions in immunologic synapses of mature human dendritic cells with natural killer cells
2011
Abstract Human mature dendritic cells (DCs) can efficiently stimulate natural killer (NK)–cell responses without being targeted by their cytotoxicity. To understand this important regulatory crosstalk, we characterized the development of the immunologic synapse between mature DCs and resting NK cells. Conjugates between these 2 innate leukocyte populations formed rapidly, persisted for prolonged time periods and matured with DC-derived f-actin polymerization at the synapse. Polarization of IL-12 and IL-12R to the synapse coincided with f-actin polymerization, while other activating and inhibitory molecules were enriched at the interface between DCs and NK cells earlier. Functional assays re…
Transformation of the dermatophyte Trichophyton mentagrophytes to hygromycin B resistance.
1989
A transformation system for the ringworm-producing dermatophyte Trichophyton mentagrophytes has been developed. The system employs the plasmid pHIS, which contains a bacterial hygromycin B phosphotransferase gene linked to Cochliobolus heterostrophus regulatory sequences (B. G. Turgeon, R. C. Garber, and O. C. Yoder, Mol. Cell. Biol. 7:3297-3305, 1987). This plasmid confers hygromycin B resistance to T. mentagrophytes. The DNA was stably integrated into the fungal genome, and the number and sites of integrations varied among transformants. Transformant clones were capable of infecting guinea pigs. This system opens the way for the molecular genetic analysis of the interaction of T. mentagro…
Identification of modifications in microbial, native tRNA that suppress immunostimulatory activity
2012
2′-O-methylation of guanosine 18 is a naturally occurring tRNA modification that can suppress immune TLR7 responses.
Cell surface display of rat invariant γ chain: detection by monoclonal antibodies directed against a C-terminal γ chain segment
1992
A series of 14 monoclonal antibodies (mAb) directed against the C-terminal part of the rat invariant gamma chain (amino acid 142-216) was generated using distinct fusion proteins that contain this gamma segment for immunization and hybridoma screening. Additional fusion protein were prepared carrying discrete regions of the gamma chain. Employing these reagents confirmed that the obtained mAb do indeed recognize the C-terminal portion of the invariant chain, as demonstrated by Western blot analysis. All mAb established recognize epitopes present on the native gamma chain, as revealed by immunoprecipitation analysis using nonionic detergent extracts of metabolically labeled Lewis rat splenoc…
The evolution of the heat-shock protein GroEL from Buchnera, the primary endosymbiont of aphids, is governed by positive selection
2002
The heat-shock protein GroEL is a double-ring-structured chaperonin that assists the folding of many newly synthesized proteins in Escherichia coli and the refolding in vitro, with the cochaperonin GroES, of conformationally damaged proteins. This protein is constitutively overexpressed in the primary symbiotic bacteria of many insects, constituting approximately 10% of the total protein in Buchnera, the primary endosymbiont of aphids. In the present study, we perform a maximum likelihood (ML) analysis to unveil the selective constraints in GroEL. In addition, we apply a new statistical approach to determine the patterns of evolution in this highly interesting protein. The main conclusion d…
Compositional measurement of gas emissions in the Eastern Carpathians (Romania) using the Multi-GAS instrument: Approach for in situ data gathering a…
2022
The Multi-GAS, a robust and low-cost instrument for real-time in-situ gas measurements, has previously been used mainly for compositional measurements of active volcanic plumes. Here we demonstrate novel use of a specially designed Multi-GAS instrument adapted to low temperature degassing areas. We performed compositional measurements in the Eastern Carpathians on dry and bubbling gas emissions using a sensor kit that allows measurement of CO2, CH4 and H2S (three major components of low-temperature hydrothermal/volcanic manifestations). Our results demonstrate good agreement between Multi-GAS measurements and independently obtained CO2 concentrations from gas chromatography. We also provide…
