Heavy-Ion Radiation Impact on a 4Mb FRAM under Different Test Conditions

2015

The impact of heavy-ions on commercial Ferroelectric Memories (FRAMs) is analyzed. The influence of different test modes (static and dynamic) on this memory is investigated. Static test results show that the memory is prone to temporary effects occurring in the peripheral circuitry. Dynamic tests results show a high sensitivity of this memory to heavy-ions.

Effect of pistachio on brachial artery diameter and flow-mediated dilatation: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized, controlled-feeding…

2017

Background: Results of previous clinical trials evaluating the effect of pistachio supplementation on endothelial reactivity (ER) are controversial. Aims: We aimed to assess the impact of pistachio on ER through systematic review of literature and meta-analysis of available randomized, controlled-feeding clinical studies (RCTs). Methods: The literature search included SCOPUS, PubMed-Medline, ISI Web of Science and Google Scholar databases up to 1st August 2017 to identify RCTs investigating the impact of pistachio on ER. Two independent reviewers extracted data on study characteristics, methods and outcomes. Overall, the impact of pistachio on ER was reported in 4 trials. Results: The meta-…

THE ROLE OF NON-GAUSSIAN SOURCES IN THE TRANSIENT DYNAMICS OF LONG JOSEPHSON JUNCTIONS

2013

We analyze the effects of different non-Gaussian noise sources on the transient dynamics of an overdamped long Josephson junction. We find nonmonotonic behavior of the mean escape time as a function of the noise intensity and frequency of the external driving signal for all the noise sources investigated.

RELAXATION PHENOMENA IN CLASSICAL AND QUANTUM SYSTEMS

2012

Relaxation phenomena in three different classical and quantum systems are investigated. First, the role of multiplicative and additive noise in a classical metastable system is analyzed. The mean lifetime of the metastable state shows a nonmonotonicbehavior with a maximum as a function of both the additive and multiplicative noise intensities. In the second system, the simultaneous action of thermal and non-Gaussian noise on the dynamics of an overdamped point Josephson junction is studied. The effect of a Lévy noise generated by a Cauchy–Lorentz distribution on the mean lifetime of the superconductive metastable state, in the presence of a periodic driving, is investigated. We find resonan…

Local test of random labelling for functional marked point processes

2022

We introduce the local t-weighted marked nth-order inhomogeneous K-function, in a Functional Marked Point Processes framework. We employ the proposed summary statistics to run a local test of random labelling, useful to identify points, and consequently regions, where this assumption does not hold, i.e. the functional marks are spatially dependent.

Imiquimod-Induced Psoriasis in Mice Depends on the IL-17 Signaling of Keratinocytes

2018

The pathology of psoriasis strongly depends on IL-17A. Monoclonal antibodies blocking either the cytokine or its receptor are among the most efficient treatments for psoriatic patients. Keratinocytes can be activated upon exposure to IL-17A and tumor necrosis factor-α and secrete secondary cytokines and chemokines in the inflamed skin. In psoriasis and its imiquimod-induced mouse model, a strong skin infiltration of neutrophils and inflammatory monocytes can be observed. However, to date, it is not clear how exactly those cellular populations are attracted to the skin and how they contribute to the pathogenesis of the disease. To define the crucial cell type responding to IL-17 and initiati…

Co-occurrence of resonant activation and noise-enhanced stability in a model of cancer growth in the presence of immune response.

2006

We investigate a stochastic version of a simple enzymatic reaction which follows the generic Michaelis-Menten kinetics. At sufficiently high concentrations of reacting species, the molecular fluctuations can be approximated as a realization of a Brownian dynamics for which the model reaction kinetics takes on the form of a stochastic differential equation. After eliminating a fast kinetics, the model can be rephrased into a form of a one-dimensional overdamped Langevin equation. We discuss physical aspects of environmental noises acting in such a reduced system, pointing out the possibility of coexistence of dynamical regimes where noise-enhanced stability and resonant activation phenomena …

Detection and visualization of physical knots in macromolecules

2010

Abstract This manuscript provides a pedagogical introduction on how to determine and visualize simple physical knots occurring in polymers, proteins and DNA. We explain how the Alexander polynomial is computed and implemented in a simulation code, and how the structure can be simplified beforehand to save computer time. The concept of knottedness can also be extended in a statistical framework to chains which are not closed. The latter is exemplified by comparing statistics of knots in open random walks and closed random loops.

Plasma HDL cholesterol and risk of myocardial infarction: a mendelian randomisation study

2012

BACKGROUND: High plasma HDL cholesterol is associated with reduced risk of myocardial infarction, but whether this association is causal is unclear. Exploiting the fact that genotypes are randomly assigned at meiosis, are independent of non-genetic confounding, and are unmodified by disease processes, mendelian randomisation can be used to test the hypothesis that the association of a plasma biomarker with disease is causal. METHODS: We performed two mendelian randomisation analyses. First, we used as an instrument a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the endothelial lipase gene (LIPG Asn396Ser) and tested this SNP in 20 studies (20,913 myocardial infarction cases, 95,407 controls). Se…
