Catalytic effect of Ca and K on CO2 gasification of spruce wood char

2015

Abstract Gasification is one route to produce chemicals and liquid fuels from biomass. The gasification of the char is catalyzed by alkali and alkaline earth metals in the biomass. In this work the catalytic effect of calcium (Ca) and potassium (K) on CO2 gasification of spruce wood was studied using a thermo gravimetric analyzer (TGA). The ash-forming elements were first removed from the wood using an acid leaching method. Then, various concentrations of K and Ca were absorbed to the wood by ion-exchange to carboxylic and phenolic groups, impregnation of K2CO3 or physically mixing of CaC2O4. The prepared spruce samples were placed in a mesh holder and gasified in the TGA at 850 °C in 100% …

Treatment of allergic airway inflammation and hyperresponsiveness by antisense-induced local blockade of GATA-3 expression.

2001

Recent studies in transgenic mice have revealed that expression of a dominant negative form of the transcription factor GATA-3 in T cells can prevent T helper cell type 2 (Th2)-mediated allergic airway inflammation in mice. However, it remains unclear whether GATA-3 plays a role in the effector phase of allergic airway inflammation and whether antagonizing the expression and/or function of GATA-3 can be used for the therapy of allergic airway inflammation and hyperresponsiveness. Here, we analyzed the effects of locally antagonizing GATA-3 function in a murine model of asthma. We could suppress GATA-3 expression in interleukin (IL)-4–producing T cells in vitro and in vivo by an antisense ph…

Ionic liquids as precatalysts in the highly stereoselective conjugate addition of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes to chalcones.

2014

Imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) serve both as recyclable reaction media and as precatalysts for the N-heterocyclic carbene-catalyzed conjugate addition of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes to chalcones. The reaction produces a broad scope of 1,6-ketoesters incorporating an anti-diphenyl moiety in high yields and with high stereoselectivity. In recycling experiments, the IL can be reused up to five times with retained reactivity and selectivity. Moreover, the 1,6-ketoesters form self-assembled organogels in aliphatic hydrocarbons. The reaction protocol is robust, easily operated, scalable and highly functionalized compounds can be obtained from inexpensive and readily accessible starting mater…

Progress in palladium-based catalytic systems for the sustainable synthesis of annulated heterocycles: a focus on indole backbones

2012

BIOVERT+LDJ; A survey highlighting the most recent palladium catalytic systems produced and their performances for progress in direct synthesis of indole backbones by heterocarbocyclization of reactive substrates is provided. The discussion is developed in relation with the principles of sustainable chemistry concerning atom and mass economy. In this respect, the general convergent character of the syntheses is of particular interest (one-pot, domino, cascade or tandem reactions), and the substrates accessibility and reactivity, together with the final waste production, are also important. This critical review clearly indicates that the development of ligand chemistry, mainly phosphines and…

Ultra-Low Catalyst Loading as a Concept in Economical and Sustainable Modern Chemistry: The Contribution of Ferrocenylpolyphosphane Ligands

2007

The challenge of sustainability in modern chemistry will be met with new technologies and processes provided significant progress is made in several key research areas, such as the expansion of chemistry from renewable feedstock, the design of environmentally benign chemicals and solvents, the minimization of depletive resources, and the development of high-performance catalysis. In this prospect, ligand chemistry is a pivotal science that links modern-organic,-inorganic, -organometallic, and -coordination chemistry through a vast number of valuable applications, precisely associated to catalysis. We review in this article our recent work on catalysis promoted by original ferrocenyl tetra-,…

Uncommon perspectives in palladium- and copper-catalysed arylation and heteroarylation of terminal alkynes following Heck or Sonogashira protocols: I…

2013

Abstract Conjugated alkynes are recurring building blocks in natural products and in a wide range of important compounds, such as pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, or molecular materials. The palladium-catalysed cross-coupling reaction between the sp 2 -hybridized carbon atoms of aryl, heteroaryl, and vinyl halides with the sp -hybridized carbon atoms of terminal alkynes is one of the most important developments in the field of alkyne chemistry over the past 50 years. Room for improvement still exists in these important reactions of direct arylation of terminal alkynes. In this prospect, the present authors have developed several strategies aiming at improving the reactivity, the selectivity,…

Anticomplementary Activity of Guinea Pig Serum Euglobulin: Its Relation to C 1 and to TAMe Esterase

1969

The interaction of complement with a suitable antigen-antibody aggregate triggers a chain of chemical reactions involving consecutively the nine factors of complement (C1 to C9). The triggering reaction is identical with the material fixation of Cl to the immune complex ; this leads to the formation of Ag-Ab-C1. By its fixation Cl is converted from its chemically inert form to a highly reactive state (“fixed” or “activated” C1). The reactivity of fixed Cl is directed first against C4. Consequently C4 rapidly disappears from the fluid phase in the presence of fixed Cl. A strikingly similar process occurs spontaneously in a fraction of guinea pig serum [5, 6].

AuX3-Mediated Selective Head-to-Head Dimerization of Difluoropropargyl Amides

2009

A dimerization of difluoropropargyl amides by reaction with gold(III) halides is described. A reductive elimination of a divinylgold species can be invoked to rationalize its formation. Initial studies of the unusual reactivity of these 1,4-dihalo-1,3-dienes have been performed.
