A photoreactive alpha-D-glucose probe has been designed for the specific detection of carbohydrate binding proteins (CBPs). The probe consists of four parts: (i) an alpha-D-glucose moiety; (ii) the digoxigenin tag; (iii) the photoreactive cross-linker; and (iv) the lysyl-lysine backbone. After incubation with lectins in the dark, the probe is activated and cross-linked to the CBPs after being treated by several flashes. Using this method we have identified a new alpha-D-glucose CBP of M(r) = 33,000, termed CBP33, in the nuclei of rats exposed to transient immobilization stress. Kinetic experiments on the synergistic effect of NADH on microsomal drug oxidation.

Abstract1. The synergistic effect of NADH on the NADPH-dependent mixed function oxidation of p-nitroanisole and hexobarbital can be measured both photometrically and by following the substrate-induced oxygen consumption. The increase in reaction rate is about 50% and lasts as long as NADH is present in the microsomal suspension.2. The oxidation of added NADH is increased by hexobarbital, ethylmorphine and SKF 525-A. Lineweaver-Burk transformation of the NADH oxidation rates yields straight lines for xenobiotic substrates suggesting Michaelis constants similar to those obtained from metabolic experiments. Simultaneous determination in situ of DNA fragmentation and 8-oxoguanine in human sperm.

Deoxyribonucleic acid fragmentation and oxidative DNA damage were simultaneously determined in the same sperm cell, incubating with an 8-oxoguanine DNA probe on human spermatozoa processed by the sperm chromatin dispersion test. The assay was validated by incubation with agents that induce DNA fragmentation with or without oxidative base damage. In all samples examined, increased levels of 8-oxoguanine were present only in those spermatozoa with fragmented DNA, suggesting a link between both DNA damage types.

Chemically Fueled Block Copolymer Self‐Assembly into Transient Nanoreactors**

In chemically fueled supramolecular materials, molecular self-assembly is coupled to a fuel-driven chemical reaction cycle. The fuel-dependence makes the material dynamic and endows it with exciting properties like adaptivity and autonomy. In contrast to the large work on the self-assembly of small molecules, we herein designed a diblock copolymer, which self assembles into transient micelles when coupled to a fuel-driven chemical reaction cycle. Moreover, we used these transient block copolymer micelles to locally increase the concentration of hydrophobic reagents and thereby function as a transient nanoreactor.

Active Molybdenum‐Based Anode for Dehydrogenative Coupling Reactions

A new and powerful active anode system that can be operated in 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol (HFIP) has been discovered. In HFIP the molybdenum anode forms a compact, conductive, and electroactive layer of higher-valent molybdenum species. This system can replace powerful but stoichiometrically required MoV reagents for the dehydrogenative coupling of aryls. This electrolytic reaction is more sustainable and allows the conversion of a broad scope of activated arenes.

A comparative study on the drug release capacity of four water swellable polymeric systems was carried out by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The polymeric systems chosen were alpha,beta-polyaspartahydrazide (PAHy) crosslinked by glutaraldehyde (GLU) (PAHy-GLU) or by ethyleneglycoldiglycidylether (EGDGE), (PAHy-EGDGE), polyvinylalcohol (PVA) crosslinked by glutaraldehyde (PVA-GLU) and alpha,beta-poly(N-hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide (PHEA) by gamma irradiation (PHEA-gamma matrices). Fibrin-chitosan composite substrate for in vitro culture of chondrocytes

The aim of this study was to develop a biocompatible monolayer substrate based on fibrin and chitosan for in vitro culture of chondrocytes. Fibrin-chitosan composite substrates combined the proved cell adhesion properties of fibrin with the hydrophilicity and poor adhesion capacity of chitosan. Chitosan microspheres were produced by coacervation method, agglomerated within a fibrin network and subsequently crosslinked with genipin.
