Geomorphologic Risk Modelling of the Sibiu Depression Using Geospatial Surface Analyses
2011
Extreme events in general, and the geomorphologic ones in particular, are highly topical problems. There were addresses by many researchers in the field of geology and physical geography (more specific by the climatologists and geomorphologists), but also by biologists, chemists, ecologists, etc. These are studied through the analysis of some types of processes and production mechanisms, and secondly by the effects they create on other environmental subsystems.
Study of Fishmeal Substitution on Growth Performance and Shelf-Life of Giltheadsea Bream (Sparusaurata)
2020
In this work the effect of partial or total replacement of fishmeal by plant protein sources and krill and squid meal on growth performance and shelf-life of gilthead sea bream was evaluated. Plant protein dietswith 50 g kg&minus
Adult Neurogenesis in Reptiles
2011
Adult neurogenesis in reptiles is a well-documented phenomenon and exists in many telencephalic areas. The newly generated neurons originate along the walls of the lateral ventricles, mainly in the sulci. The putative neural progenitors are radial glial cells. These glial cells give rise to neuroblasts that migrate to their final destination. In general, the new neurons are born in the portion of the ventricular zone (VZ) adjacent to the telencephalic area where they will be recruited and migrate radially through the brain parenchyma along the processes of radial glial cells to their final destination, although migration to the olfactory bulbs (OB) is different. Specifically, it seems that …
Migrating neuroblasts of the rostral migratory stream are putative targets for the action of nitric oxide
2007
It has been demonstrated that the gaseous messenger nitric oxide influences cell proliferation and cell migration, and therefore affects adult neurogenesis in mammals. Here, we investigated the putative targets for this action in the rostral migratory stream of the rat. We used immunocytochemical detection of the beta1 subunit of the enzyme soluble guanylyl cyclase, which can be activated by nitric oxide. Our results under light and electron microscopy demonstrated that the migrating neuroblasts (type A cells) were beta1-immunopositive. The astrocytes (type B cells), immature precursors (type C cells) and ependymal cells (type E cells) were beta1-immunonegative. The neurochemical characteri…
Glycine receptors influence radial migration in the embryonic mouse neocortex.
2011
To investigate whether glycine receptors influence radial migration in the neocortex, we analyzed the effect of glycine and the glycinergic antagonist strychnine, on the distribution of 5-bromo-2'deoxyuridine-labeled neurons in organotypic slice cultures from embryonic mice cortices. Application of glycine impeded radial migration only in the presence of the glycine-transport blockers, ALX-5407 and ALX-1393. This effect was blocked by the specific glycine receptor antagonist strychnine, whereas application of strychnine in the absence of glycine was without effect. We conclude from these observations that an activation of glycine receptors can impede radial migration, but that the glycinerg…
Role of the Netrin-like Domain of Procollagen C-Proteinase Enhancer-1 in the Control of Metalloproteinase Activity
2010
The netrin-like (NTR) domain is a feature of several extracellular proteins, most notably the N-terminal domain of tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs), where it functions as a strong inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinases and some other members of the metzincin superfamily. The presence of a C-terminal NTR domain in procollagen C-proteinase enhancers (PCPEs), proteins that stimulate the activity of astacin-like tolloid proteinases, raises the possibility that this might also have inhibitory activity. Here we show that both long and short forms of the PCPE-1 NTR domain, the latter beginning at the N-terminal cysteine known to be critical for TIMP activity, show no inhibition, at …
Anaerobic central metabolic pathways active during polyhydroxyalkanoate production in uncultured cluster 1Defluviicoccusenriched in activated sludge …
2009
A glycogen nonpolyphosphate-accumulating organism (GAO) enrichment culture dominated by the Alphaproteobacteria cluster 1 Defluviicoccus was investigated to determine the metabolic pathways involved in the anaerobic formation of polyhydroxyalkanoates, carbon storage polymers important for the proliferation of microorganisms in enhanced biological phosphorus removal processes. FISH-microautoradiography and post-FISH fluorescent chemical staining confirmed acetate assimilation as polyhydroxyalkanoates in cluster 1 Defluviicoccus under anaerobic conditions. Chemical inhibition of glycolysis using iodoacetate, and of isocitrate lyase by 3-nitropropionate and itaconate, indicated that carbon is …
Stem-injection of herbicide for control of Ailanthus altissima (Mill.) Swingle: a practical source of power for drilling holes in stems
2013
Abstract: Ailanthus altissima is a well-known invasive tree in many parts of the world showing an outstanding ability to establish within woodlands and other less-disturbed habitats. Previous studies have reported that control of this species is very difficult because of its strong resprouting. Indeed, effective control can be achieved only by mechanical treatment followed by the application of a systemic herbicide. Operating drills or saws and other mechanical equipment require electric power supply which is not readily available in many invaded sites, notably shrubslands and woodlands. In two study sites, we evaluated control obtained by glyphosate through a stem-injection technique and c…
New approach for synthesis of poly(ethylglyoxylate) using Maghnite-H + , an Algerian proton exchanged montmorillonite clay, as an eco-catalyst
2017
International audience; In this works, we have explored a new method for a green synthesis of poly(ethylglyoxylate) (PEtG). This method consists on using a montmorillonite clay called Maghnite-H+ as an eco-catalyst to replace triethylamine which is toxic. Cationic polymerization experiments are performed in bulk conditions at three temperatures (-40 degrees C, 25 degrees C, 80 degrees C) and in THF solutions at room temperature (25 degrees C). At 25 degrees C, an optimum ratio of 5 wt% of catalyst leads to molar masses up to 22000 g/mol in THF solutions. Polymerizations in bulk conditions lead to slightly lower masses than experiments conducted in THF solutions. However, bulk polymerization…
