Quadratic Objective Functions for Dichromatic Model Parameters Estimation

2017

International audience; In this paper, we present a novel method to estimate dichromatic model parameters from a single color image. Estimation of reflectance, shading and specularity has many applications such as shape recovery, specularity removal and facilitates classical image processing and computer vision tasks such as segmentation or classification. Our method is based on two successive and independent constrained quadratic programming steps to recover the parameters of the model. Compared to recent methods, our approach has the advantage to transform a complex inverse problem into two parralelizable optimization steps that are much easier to solve. We have compared our method with r…

Arrangements de cercles sur une sphère: Algorithmes et Applications aux modèles moléculaires representés par une union de boules

2008

Since the early work of Richard et al., geometric constructions havebeen paramount for the description of macromolecules and macro-molecularassemblies. In particular, Voronoï and related constructions have beenused to describe the packing properties of atoms, to compute molecularsurfaces, to find cavities. This thesis falls in this realm, andafter a brief introduction to protein structure, makes fourcontributions.First, using the sweep line paradigm of Bentley and Ottmann, wepresent the first effective algorithm able to construct the exactarrangement of circles on a sphere. Moreover, assuming the circlesstem from the intersection between spheres, we present a strategy to reportthe covering …

Enhancement and assessment of WKS variance parameter for intelligent 3D shape recognition and matching based on MPSO

2016

This paper presents an improved wave kernel signature (WKS) using the modified particle swarm optimization (MPSO)-based intelligent recognition and matching on 3D shapes. We select the first feature vector from WKS, which represents the 3D shape over the first energy scale. The choice of this vector is to reinforce robustness against non-rigid 3D shapes. Furthermore, an optimized WKS-based method for extracting key-points from objects is introduced. Due to its discriminative power, the associated optimized WKS values with each point remain extremely stable, which allows for efficient salient features extraction. To assert our method regarding its robustness against topological deformations,…

Advanced 3D movement analysis algorithms for robust functional capacity assessment.

2017

SummaryObjectives: We developed a novel system for in home functional capacities assessment in frail older adults by analyzing the Timed Up and Go movements. This system aims to follow the older people evolution, potentially allowing a forward detection of motor decompensation in order to trigger the implementation of rehabilitation. However, the pre-experimentations conducted on the ground, in different environments, revealed some problems which were related to KinectTM operation. Hence, the aim of this actual study is to develop methods to resolve these problems. Methods: Using the KinectTM sensor, we analyze the Timed Up and Go test movements by measuring nine spatio-temporal parameters, …

Fast and Robust Face Detection on a Parallel Optimized Architecture implemented on FPGA

2009

In this paper, we present a parallel architecture for fast and robust face detection implemented on FPGA hardware. We propose the first implementation that meets both real-time requirements in an embedded context and face detection robustness within complex backgrounds. The chosen face detection method is the Convolutional Face Finder (CFF) algorithm, which consists of a pipeline of convolution and subsampling operations, followed by a multilayer perceptron. We present the design methodology of our face detection processor element (PE). This methodology was followed in order to optimize our implementation in terms of memory usage and parallelization efficiency. We then built a parallel arch…

A Push-Pull Mechanism Helps Design Highly Competent G-Quadruplex-DNA Catalysts

2021

International audience; Massive efforts are currently being invested to improve the performance, versatility, and scope of applications of nucleic acid catalysts. G-quadruplex (G4)/hemin DNAzymes are of particular interest owing to their structural programmability and chemical robustness. However, optimized catalytic efficiency is still bottleneck and the activation mechanism is unclear. Herein, we have designed a series of parallel G4s with different proximal cytosine (dC) derivatives to fine-tune the hemin-binding pocket for G4-DNAzymes. Combining theoretical and experimental methods, we have assessed the dependence of catalytic enhancement on the electronic properties of proximal dCs and…

Design of Reliable and Efficient Banki-Type Turbines

2020

A new shape for the external surface of the Crossflow turbine blades is proposed, which allows for the preservation of hydraulic efficiency in spite of a significant maximum blade thickness providing mechanic robustness and reliability. The final shape of the blades is assessed using an iterative solution for two uncoupled models: a 2D computational fluid dynamic (CFD) and a structural 3D finite element method (FEM) analysis of a single blade. Application of the proposed methodology to the design of a power recovery system (PRS) turbine, a new backpressure Crossflow-type inline turbine for pressure regulation, and energy production in a real Sicilian site follows.

Image difference detection under varying illumination based on vector space and correlations

2012

Abstract We propose two methods to detect differences in images independently of local changes of intensity. The methods are based on calculating geometrical operators when images are considered as vectors. Operators can be expressed in terms of correlations for the possibility of optical implementations. The methods are invariant to changes of the form af ( x , y ) +  b , where a and b are arbitrary unknown parameters that may vary over the image f ( x , y ). Computer simulations show that the method works well when the illumination model is satisfied. Results from real images taken with a web camera show the robustness of the method.

Multiple Classifiers and Data Fusion for Robust Diagnosis of Gearbox Mixed Faults

2019

Detection and isolation of single and mixed faults in a gearbox are very important to enhance the system reliability, lifetime, and service availability. This paper proposes a hybrid learning algorithm, consisting of multilayer perceptron (MLP)- and convolutional neural network (CNN)-based classifiers, for diagnosis of gearbox mixed faults. Domain knowledge features are required to train the MLP classifier, while the CNN classifier can learn features itself, allowing to reduce the required knowledge features for the counterpart. Vibration data from an experimental setup with gearbox mixed faults is used to validate the effectiveness of the algorithms and compare them with conventional metho…
