A robust aerial image registration method using Gaussian mixture models
2014
Aerial image registration is one of the bases in many aerospace applications, such as aerial reconnaissance and aerial mapping. In this paper, we propose a novel aerial image registration algorithm which is based on Gaussian mixture models. First of all, considering the characters of the aerial images, the work uses a shape feature detector which computes the boundaries of regions with nearly the same gray-value to extract invariant feature. Then, a Gaussian mixture models (GMM) based image registration model is built and solved to estimate the transformation matrix between two aerial images. Furthermore, the proposed method is applied on real aerial images, and the results demonstrate the …
Cutting type and IBA treatment duration affect Teucrium fruticans adventitious root quality
2014
Root development of stem cuttings of Silver Germander (Teucrium fruticans) was investigated in relation to cutting type and indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) treatment. Terminal cuttings of a clone grown in Sicily were trimmed to three types: terminal cuttings with apex (TWA), terminal cuttings without apex (TWOA) or sub-terminal cuttings (ST). To verify the cutting response to exogenous auxin, cuttings were dipped to a 2.0 cm depth in a 0.5% indole-3-butyric acid solution for 0, 5 or 7 minutes. Overall percent survival was 97 to 98%. Rooting percent, root number and root length were affected by cutting type and indole-3-butyric acid treatment. In general, TWA cuttings demonstrated a higher capac…
Beta-amiloīda peptīdu īso analogu ietekmes uz beta-amiloīda plāgu sakopojumu kvantitatīvajiem radītājiem izvērtēšana in vivo Alcheimera slimības mode…
2021
Alcheimera slimība (AD) ir neirodeģeneratīva slimība un biežākais demences cēlonis, kas raksturojas ar amiloīda-β (Aβ) plāgu izgulsnēšanos. Pēdējos gados veiktie pētījumi vērsti uz garo un vidējo Aβ peptīdu izpēti, taču nav datu par īso Aβ peptīdu efektiem in vivo AD modelī. Darba mērķis bija izmantojot AxioVision kvantitatīvi raksturot īso 1-6Aβ peptīdu A2T-h, A2T-m, WT-h, WT-m ietekmi uz Aβ plāgu sakopojumiem in vivo AD modelī. Kvantitatīvā analīze parāda, ka pētītie īsie peptīdi salīdzinot ar kontroles grupu neuzrādīja statistiski ticamas atšķirības, nosakot to ietekmi uz toksisko plāgu vidējo skaitu un izmēru izmaiņām. Ņemot vērā iegūtos rezultātus, var secināt, ka ir nepieciešama tālāk…
QUANTIFICATION OF GENETIC VARIANTS OF CASEINS IN MILK OF GIRGENTANA GOAT BREED
2013
In the milk of ruminants, more than 95% of proteins are synthesized by six structural genes, four caseins (alphas1, beta, alphas2 and κ-caseins) and two whey proteins (alpha-lactalbumin and beta-lactoglobulin). Goat casein genes have been found to show high polymorphism, which influences not only the quantity of casein in milk but also the structural and nutritional characteristics and technological properties of milk. The aim of this work was to separate and quantify the most common allelic variants of caseins in milk of Girgentana goat breed, a Sicilian autochthonous breed, and to evaluate the effect of casein polymorphisms on casein content. The alleles at different casein genes were det…
Yield, pomological characteristics, bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity of Annona cherimola Mill. grown in mediterranean climate
2019
The agronomic and qualitative responses of the cherimoya (Annona cherimola Mill.) fruit grown in Mediterranean climate are not properly studied. Fruits of Fino de Jete, the most diffused worldwide cultivar of cherimoya, and Torre 1 a new genotype obtained by breeding program in Sicily, Italy, were collected at commercial ripening and subjected to productive (yield efficiency, number of fruits, crop load), analytical (fruit weight, transversal diameter, longitudinal diameter, total soluble solid content, titratable acidity, seed weight, seed number, peel and pulp weight, pulp/seed ratio and colorimetric analysis), bioactive compound content (total antioxidant activity, Phenolic and Carotenoi…
Modelagem da cinética de secagem de discos de maçã e abobrinha impregnadas a vácuo com antocianinas
2019
ABSTRACT: The aim of this research was to study the drying kinetics of apple and zucchini slices enriched with anthocyanins and to evaluate the influence of drying temperature on the anthocyanin content of apple and zucchini snacks. Apple (Granny Smith) and zucchini (Cucurbita pepo) slices were enriched with anthocyanins by vacuum impregnation with blueberry juice. Then, slices were dehydrated at 40, 50 and 60 ºC with 1.0 m/s air flow. Dehydrated samples were referred to as anthocyanin enriched snacks. Diffusion coefficient values improved by increasing the drying temperature, within the 2.81×10-10 to 5.78×10-10 m2/s range for apple slices and 2.02×10-10 to 3.99×10-10 m2/s for zucchini slic…
Characterization of liver cytokeratin as a major target antigen of anti-SLA antibodies.
1990
Abstract Anti-SLA antibodies characterize a newly defined subgroup of patients with autoimmune chronic active hepatitis. The aim of the present study was the immunochemical characterization of the target antigen(s) of anti-SLA antibodies. Anti-SLA-positive sera were found to contain high titres of anti-cytokeratin antibodies. In immunoblotting analyses with 100 000 × g supernatants of human liver homogenates (S-100) these sera recognized various proteins with a molecular mass of 40–60 kDa. These proteins were also recognized by monoclonal anti-cytokeratin antibodies. Two-dimensional co-electrophoresis and immunoblotting analysis of S-100 and liver cytokeratins showed that anti-SLA antibodie…
The cryogenic anticoincidence detector for ATHENA-XMS: preliminary results from the new prototype
2012
ATHENA has been the re-scoped IXO mission, and one of the foreseen focal plane instrument was the X-ray Microcalorimeter Spectrometer (XMS) working in the energy range 0.3-10 keV, which was a kilo-pixel array based on TES (Transition Edge Sensor) detectors. The need of an anticoincidence (AC) detector is legitimated by the results performed with GEANT4 simulations about the impact of the non x-ray background onto XMS at L2 orbit (REQ. < 0.02 cts/cm2/s/keV). Our consortium has both developed and tested several samples, with increasing area, in order to match the large area of the XMS (64 mm2). Here we show the preliminary results from the last prototype. The results achieved in this work off…
Mosaic Qβ coats as a new presentation model
1998
The new protein carrier was developed on the basis of recombinant RNA phage Qbeta capsid. C-terminal UGA extension of the short form of Qbeta coat, so-called A1 extension, served as a target for presentation of foreign peptides on the outer surface of mosaic Qbeta particles. In conditions of enhanced UGA suppression, the proportion of A1-extended to short coats in mosaic particles dropped from 48% to 14%, with an increase of the length of A1 extension. A model insertion, short preS1 epitope 31-DPAFR-35 of hepatitis B surface antigen, demonstrated superficial location on the mosaic Qbeta particles and ensured specific antigenicity and immunogenicity.
