The significance of student voice: female students’ interpretations of failure in Tanzanian secondary education
2014
Abstract: In Tanzania, the national examinations are used as the primary tools for selection and transition from lower to upper secondary education. Female students are more likely to fail in the national exams and to drop out from education. This article examines the perspectives of female students concerning their advancement in secondary education. Two sets of qualitative data, responses to a research questionnaire from 100 female lower secondary school students and follow-up interviews with seven mature students enrolled in a non-formal school who had failed in the national examinations, were analysed to identify critical issues influencing the educational advancement of female students…

Kultivēšanas apstākļu ietekme uz ekstracelulāro fruktānu veidošanos Gluconobacter nephelii A14 kultūrā
2015
Šobrīd fruktānu pielietojumu ierobežo to iegūšanas augstajās izmaksas.
Making conservation sustainable under unfavourable conditions : the case of Chimanimani National Reserve, Mozambique
2019
Based on a case study from the Chimanimani National Reserve in Mozambique, this article analyses to what extent different types of operational practices can contribute to the sustainability of protected areas in relatively unfavourable external conditions. While current conservation policies highlight community participation and market-based approaches, the same “best practices” are not equally valid under different conditions. Where unfavourable natural conditions, lack of infrastructure, difficult access and political instability limit the potential for upmarket ecotourism, actors should focus on community empowerment, diversification of livelihoods, and building joint conservation ideolo…
Challenges Associated with Reading Acquisition in Sub-Saharan Africa : Promotion of Literacy in Multilingual Contexts
2019
Heikki Lyytinen and his co-authors note the problems of poorly trained teachers and large class sizes in Africa. Drawing on experience in Zambia, they present a case study of a digital game that can help overcome these problems and lead to more effective literacy instruction, particularly for students facing barriers to learning how to read. peerReviewed
Penerapan Model Pembelajaran Problem Based Learning (PBL) untuk Meningkatkan Hasil Belajar Peserta Didik SMA pada Materi Usaha dan Energi
2017
This research aims to determine the increase of PBL (Problem Based Learning) model on effort and energy material by the XI MIA 6, CLASS OF SMA NEGERI 1 Manokwari. The subject amount of this research consists of 25 students which are divided into 11 boys and 14 girls. This is a classroom action research, which refers to the Kemmis and Taggart style. This research is conducted in two cycles, which in every cycle consists of planning implementation, action and observation, and reflection. The data of this research is taken using multiple choice and essay test. Meanwhile, the psychomotor learning result is taken using psychomotor assessment sheet through the expert observation. The cognitive re…
Trīsdimensionāli drukāta mugurkaula starpskriemeļu diska modeļa izveide un izmantoto materiālu biosaderības novērtēšana
2018
Educational research from Tanzania 1998–2008 concerning persons with disabilities: What can we learn?
2014
The global Education For All process and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities have increased the attention given to marginalised and excluded groups showing the need to enhance the education of persons with disabilities. In Sub-Saharan Africa a number of poorly disseminated studies investigate education of persons with disabilities. This paper provides an analysed overview of a decade of Tanzanian studies and reports on the education of persons with disabilities produced from 1998 to 2008. Key findings are highlighted and gaps in the research identified and suggestions are offered for future investigations. The education of persons with disabilities needs to be addre…
