Economic Aspects in the Treatment of Schizophrenia in Italy: Cost Consequences of an Early Long-acting Injectable Anti-Psychotics (lais) Approach
2017
PurposeThe aim of this analysis was to evaluate the economic consequences of a new treatment approach in the treatment of schizophrenia in the Italian setting. In terms of direct costs, in Italy was estimated that the main driver were represented by hospitalization and residential cost (71% of total direct cost per patient), followed by semi-residential services (13%), anti-psychotic and other drugs (8%) and ambulatory services (8).MethodsA probabilistic cost consequence model was developed to estimate the potential cost reductions derived from an early treatment with atypical long-acting injectable anti-psychotics (aLAIs) drugs. A systematic literature review was carried out to identify di…
Evaluation of early and late histamine release by three standard volume substitutes
2001
Following meta-analysis [1], the use of colloidal solutions in intensive care medicine is under discussion. Although polygeline [2] and human albumin are known to cause histamine release, other substances eg hydroxyethyl starch were thought to be without effect. Histamine release depends on the clinical scenario, concomitant drugs, infusion speed, duration and amount of infusion. However, there is no information about their effect regarding time periods longer than immediate reactions. This study investigated the histamine releasing effects of three plasma substitutes administered and observed over a longer period of time, simulating many of the clinical scenarios.
Shared socioeconomic pathways for climate change research in Finland: co-developing extended SSP narratives for agriculture
2021
AbstractShared socioeconomic pathways (SSPs), developed at global scale, comprise narrative descriptions and quantifications of future world developments that are intended for climate change scenario analysis. However, their extension to national and regional scales can be challenging. Here, we present SSP narratives co-developed with stakeholders for the agriculture and food sector in Finland. These are derived from intensive discussions at a workshop attended by approximately 39 participants offering a range of sectoral perspectives. Using general background descriptions of the SSPs for Europe, facilitated discussions were held in parallel for each of four SSPs reflecting very different c…
Sectoral policies as drivers of forest management and ecosystems services: A case study in Bavaria, Germany
2023
European countries have national sectoral polices to regulate and promote the provision of a wide range of forest ecosystems services (FES). However, potential incoherencies among these policies can negatively affect the efficient provision of FES. In this work, we evaluated the coherence among three national policies from Germany and their ability to effectively provide FES in the future: the Forest Strategy 2020 (FS), the National Strategy on Biological Diversity (BDS), and the German National Policy Strategy on Bioeconomy (BES). Using forest inventory data from the Federal State of Bavaria, we simulated a range of forest management options under three climate trajectories for 100 years i…

Hvordan kan teknologi skape nye undervisnings- og læringsmåter i fremmedspråksundervisningen fram mot 2030?
2014
Published version of an article in the journal: Acta Didactica Norge.
Hydrological simulation using a bivariate approach based on copulas for the assessment of inundation risk scenarios down-stream of flood control rese…
2021
Aim of this study was to assess operational reservoir rules for evaluating flood risk scenarios using a MonteCarlo bivariate framework. It involves a stochastic procedure to calculate flood hydrographs and, then, flood inundation area evaluation through a 2D hydraulic model to estimate the inundation risk and, as consequence, the relative damage evaluation, under different operation strategies of an upstream reservoir. The entire procedure can be summarised as follows: single synthetic stochastic rainfall events have been derived using a Monte Carlo proce-dure through a bivariate copulas analysis; synthetic bivariate stochastic inflow hydrographs have been derived by using a conceptual full…
Editorial: Positive Technology: Designing E-experiences for Positive Change
2019
While there is little doubt that our lives are becoming increasingly digital, whether this change is for the better or for the worse is far from being settled. Rather, over the past years concerns about the personal and social impacts of technologies have been growing, fueled by dystopian Orwellian scenarios that almost on daily basis are generously dispensed by major Western media outlets. According to a recent poll involving some 1,150 experts, 47% of respondents predict that individuals’ well-being will bemore helped than harmed by digital life in the next decade, while 32% say people’s well-being will bemore harmed than helped. Only 21% of those surveyed indicated that the impact of tec…
Project into the Future. Introductory essay on the topic
2021
Investigating the Future is an established practice for the academy and the world of crafts and industry. From the Chicago Columbian Exhibition of 1893 to the two Worlds Fairs of New York City (1939 and 1965) and so on, the future has been foreseen as filled with technology and amazing architecture but not every vision of the future has described promising scenarios. The four visions of the future proposed by Norman Henchey (1978) conceptualized in classes – ‘possible’ (any future), ‘plausible’ (future that makes sense), ‘probable’ (highly likely to happen), ‘preferable’ (the best that could happen) – have been brilliantly described in the ‘Futures Cone’ reinterpreted by Joseph Voros (2003)…
Safety diagnostic method in urban circular intersections
2004
The available knowledge of traffic safety at roundabouts is not a complete reference for geometric design; where there are organizational schemes for junctions characterized by a geometric design, quite different driving behaviours are required from those that are observable at roundabouts. This is very frequent in urban areas, where the existing constraints, particularly physical ones, often render it necessary to make “compromise choices” relating to one or more geometric features of the roundabout (central island shape, circulatory roadway width, symmetry and number of the arms, entry width, etc). The objective of this study is to explain the accident phenomenology of this kind of road s…
