Consecutive Selective Adsorption of Pentamidine and Phosphate Biomolecules on a Self-Assembled Layer: Reversible Formation of a Chemically Selective…
1996
In situ ellipsometric film thickness measurements, FT-IR external reflectance spectroscopy, and potentiometric measurements indicated that the amphiphile pentamidine (PAM), a bisbenzamidine, associated by self-assembly with a preformed self-assembled monolayer of a mercaptoalkanoic acid on gold. The structural properties of PAM and the nature of the substrate were ideal for the formation of a densely packed monolayer. This process was fully reversible, as demonstrated by changing the pH of the surrounding medium. Thus, disassembly−reassembly occurred when the pH was cycled between 8.7 and 3. The bilayer structure, featuring a positively charged amidinium surface, was subsequently used for s…
Density functional theory study of the 5-pyrrolidin-2-yltetrazole-catalyzed aldol reaction
2005
Abstract The replacement of the carboxylic acid functionality with a tetrazolic acid in the proline-catalyzed asymmetric aldol reaction between acetone and trimethylacetaldehyde has been studied using DFT methods at the B3LYP/6-31G** computational level. For the C–C bond-formation step, four reactive channels corresponding to the syn and anti arrangement of the enamine and the re and si attack modes have been analyzed. The B3LYP/6-31G** results allowed us to explain the stereoselectivity and the increase in reactivity relative to the proline-catalyzed process in DMSO.
Binding motif of ebselen in solution: Chalcogen and hydrogen bonds team up
2020
Ebselen (2-phenyl-1,2-benzoselenazol-3(2H)one), a glutathione peroxidase mimic, is active against several RNA viruses, among others the retrovirus responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic. In this paper 77Se and 1H NMR studies of ebselen are reported and they identify the chalcogen bond (ChB) and hydrogen bond (HB) that are central in the landscape of interactions formed by the compound in solution. The selenium atom and the hydrogen atom at the C7 carbon act as ChB and HB donors and the O and N atoms of neutral molecules function as acceptors. The ChB and HB give rise to a bifurcated supramolecular synthon, which fastens the interaction acceptor opposite to the N–Se covalent bond of the selen…
Cation-π interactions between neutral calix[5]arene hosts and cationic organic guests
1997
Abstract The binding properties of the 1,3-bridged calix[5]crowns 1–3 towards a number of quaternary ammonium, phosphonium, and iminium ions have been investigated by 1H NMR in CDCl3 solution, where the sole driving force for association is provided by cation-π interactions. We have found that the cavity of a calix[5]arene fixed in a cone-like conformation provides a fairly efficient, but rather unselective, receptor site for quaternary salts. The conformationally mobile p-tert-butylcalix[5]arene (4) is in general a much less efficient binder than the more preorganized calixcrowns, but displays a remarkable selectivity towards N-methylquinuclidinium ion that is believed to arise from a good…
Selective Synthesis of New Fluorinated Alicyclic β-Amino Ester Stereoisomers
2011
New fluorinated alicyclic β-amino ester stereoisomers with a cyclohexene or cyclohexane skeleton were prepared from cis- or trans-2-aminocyclohex-3-enecarboxylic acids in five or six steps through a regio- and stereoselective hydroxylation and hydroxy–fluorine exchange. Fluorinated aminoester enantiomers were synthesized from enantiopure cis- or trans-2-aminocyclohexenecarboxylic acid (prepared byenzymatic resolution of the racemic substances).
Vergleichende dimerisierung der enantiomere von Oct-1-in-3-ol mit chiralen rhodium-phosphan-komplexen
1996
Abstract Three optically active phosphanes ([(S)-2-methylbutyl]3−nP[phenyl]n(n = 0, 1, 2), were tested as ligands in rhodium(I) complexes to form catalysts for the enantioselective dimerisation of (R)- and (S)-oct-1-yn-3-ol. The catalytic reaction provides enantioselectivity for this type of CC bond formation. For reactions at 45–75°C and depending on the P-ligand used the rates vary for both enantiomers from 6:1 to 50:1 in favour of the (S)-octynol.
Asymmetric synthesis of fluorinated cyclic beta-amino acid derivatives through cross metathesis.
2006
The asymmetric synthesis of several fluorinated cis-2-aminocycloalkane carboxylic acids (cis-2-ACACs) with a cross metathesis (CM) reaction as the key step has been carried out, constituting the first time a metathesis protocol has been undertaken with fluorinated imidoyl chlorides. Subsequent chemoselective hydrogenation of the olefin moiety, Dieckmann condensation, and stereoselective reduction of the iminic double bond afforded the corresponding beta-amino esters with several ring sizes. The asymmetric version of the process was achieved by using (-)-8-phenylmenthol as a chiral auxiliary.
Regioselective synthesis of calixcrowns derived from p-tert-butylcalix[5]arene
1993
Abstract Alkylation of p-tert-butylcalix[5]arene with oligoethylene glycol-ditosylates in the presence of CsF affords the 1,3-bridged calix[5]crowns 1a–c in 51 to 72% yield. In the case of hexaethylene glycol the isomeric 1,2-bridged calix[5]crown-7 2c was obtained additionally. The calixcrowns were further modified by alkylation of the remaining hydroxyl groups.
Stereoselective reactions of a thioester butanediacetal with various electrophiles
2014
Abstract The reactions of the lithium enolate of S -ethyl (2 R ,5 R ,6 R )-5,6-dimethoxy-5,6-dimethyl-[1,4]-dioxane-2-carbothioate were investigated in the presence or absence of hexamethylphosphoramide (HMPA). Fluorination gave a single isomer with a much better yield than for the corresponding methyl ester. Alkylation with alkyl halides strongly depended upon their structure. Without HMPA, only methyl iodide reacted with moderate yield and gave a single isomer. In the presence of HMPA, all of the alkyl halides reacted almost quantitatively (81–98% yield) with moderate stereoselectivity and preferentially gave products with the alkyl chain attached at the equatorial position. The silyl eno…
Stereoselective synthesis of perillaldehyde-based chiral β-amino acid derivatives through conjugate addition of lithium amides.
2014
The Michael addition of dibenzylamine to (+)-tert-butyl perillate (3) and to (+)-tert-butyl phellandrate (6), derived from (S)-(−)-perillaldehyde (1), resulted in diastereomeric β-amino esters 7A–D in a moderately stereospecific reaction in a ratio of 76:17:6:1. After separation of the diastereoisomers, the major product, cis isomer 7A, was quantitatively isomerized to the minor component, trans-amino ester 7D. All four isomers were transformed to the corresponding β-amino acids 10A–D, which are promising building blocks for the synthesis of β-peptides and 1,3-heterocycles in three steps. The steric effects of the isopropyl group at position 4 and of the α-methyl substituent of (R)-N-benzyl…
