Finite-size scaling analysis of the anisotropic critical behavior of the two-dimensional Ising model under shear

2010

The critical behavior of the two-dimensional Ising Model with non-conserved order parameter in steady-state shear is studied by large-scale Monte Carlo simulations. Studying the structure factor S(qx,qy) in the disordered phase, the ratio of correlation length exponents νx/νy in the two lattice directions (x,y) is estimated, and the critical temperature is determined as a function of the shear rate as Tc() − Tc(0) ∝ with ≈0.45. Critical exponents β≈0.37, γ≈1.1, ; ν⊥≈0.46, ν∥≈1.38 are roughly compatible with anisotropic hyperscaling.

ON FRACTIONAL RELAXATION

2003

Generalized fractional relaxation equations based on generalized Riemann-Liouville derivatives are combined with a simple short time regularization and solved exactly. The solution involves generalized Mittag-Leffler functions. The associated frequency dependent susceptibilities are related to symmetrically broadened Cole-Cole susceptibilities occurring as Johari Goldstein β-relaxation in many glass formers. The generalized susceptibilities exhibit a high frequency wing and strong minimum enhancement.

Nonlinear active micro-rheology in a glass-forming soft-sphere mixture.

2013

We present extensive molecular dynamics computer simulations of a glass-forming Yukawa mixture, investigating the nonlinear response of a single particle that is pulled through the system by a constant force. Structural changes around the pulled particle are analyzed by pair correlation functions, measured in the deeply supercooled state of the system. A regime of intermediate force strengths is found where the structural changes around the pulled particle are small, although its steady-state velocity shows a strong nonlinear response. This nonlinear response regime is characterized by a force-temperature superposition principle of a Peclet number and anisotropic diffusive behavior. In the …

External Noise Effects in Doped Semiconductors Operating Under sub-THz Signals

2012

We study the noise-induced effects on the electron transport dynamics in low-doped n-type GaAs samples by using a Monte Carlo approach. The system is driven by an external periodic electric field in the presence of a random telegraph noise source. The modifications caused by the addition of external fluctuations are investigated by studying the spectral density of the electron velocity fluctuations for different values of the noise parameters. The findings indicate that the diffusion noise in low-doped semiconductors can be reduced by the addition of a fluctuating component to the driving electric field, but the effect critically depends on the features of the external noise source.

Noise features in InP crystals operating under static, periodic or fluctuating electric fields

2014

The results of a study concerning the intrinsic noise in low-doped n-type InP crystals operating under static, periodic or fluctuating electric fields are shown. To simulate the dynamics of electrons in the bulk, we employ a Monte Carlo approach, by taking into account the main details of band structure, scattering processes, as well as heating effects. The noise features are investigated by computing the velocity fluctuations correlation function, its spectral density and the total noise power, for different values of amplitude and frequency of the driving field. We show how the noise spectra are affected by the electric field frequency and compare their peculiarities with those exhibited …

Simultaneously recovering potentials and embedded obstacles for anisotropic fractional Schrödinger operators

2017

Let \begin{document}$A∈{\rm{Sym}}(n× n)$\end{document} be an elliptic 2-tensor. Consider the anisotropic fractional Schrodinger operator \begin{document}$\mathscr{L}_A^s+q$\end{document} , where \begin{document}$\mathscr{L}_A^s: = (-\nabla·(A(x)\nabla))^s$\end{document} , \begin{document}$s∈ (0, 1)$\end{document} and \begin{document}$q∈ L^∞$\end{document} . Linear inverse filtering improves spatial separation of nonlinear brain dynamics: a simulation study.

2000

We examined topographic variations in nonlinear measures based on scalp voltages, which were generated by two simulated current dipoles each placed in a different hemisphere of a spherical volume conductor (three-shell model). Dipole dynamics were that of a three-torus and the x-component of the Lorenz-system and scalp voltage were calculated for a configuration of 29 electrode positions. Although estimates for correlation dimension D2 and Lyapunov exponent L1 were close to the theoretical values for the original time series, the simulated scalp voltage data showed almost no topographic resolution of dipole positions. In order to enhance topographic differentiation, we constructed linear in…

Improved determination of the β−ν¯e angular correlation coefficient a in free neutron decay with the aSPECT spectrometer

2020

We report on a precise measurement of the electron-antineutrino angular correlation ($a$ coefficient) in free neutron beta-decay from the $a$SPECT experiment. The $a$ coefficient is inferred from the recoil energy spectrum of the protons which are detected in 4$\pi$ by the $a$SPECT spectrometer using magnetic adiabatic collimation with an electrostatic filter. Data are presented from a 100 days run at the Institut Laue Langevin in 2013. The sources of systematic errors are considered and included in the final result. We obtain $a = -0.10430(84)$ which is the most precise measurement of the neutron $a$ coefficient to date. From this, the ratio of axial-vector to vector coupling constants is …

Numerical simulation of free dissipative open quantum system and establishment of a formula for π

2020

We transform the system/reservoir coupling model into a one-dimensional semi-infinite discrete chain with nearest neighbor interaction through a unitary transformation, and, simulate the dynamics of free dissipative open quantum system. We investigate the consequences of such modeling, which is observed as finite size effect causing the recurrence of particle from the end of the chain. Afterwards, we determine a formula for π in terms of the matrix operational form, which indicates a robustness of the connection between quantum physics and basic mathematics. peerReviewed
